Family In-Fighting
The Holloways were sitting there staring at Mr Holloway with hate in their eyes. From the looks of things, they must be having many problems at home. I must say these two old men should be in the history books with the words dumb ass next to their pictures. Mr Green said, “Now that the divorces are settled. My client and her partner have some information they would like to share with you.” Grandma smiled at me and Dad while Dad and I looked at each other. The old men don’t look so happy because they’re smart enough to realize something big is about to happen. If I were a betting person like the old men, I would bet my inheritance that they won’t like what is about to happen. Now, it was Mrs Holloway's lawyer who started speaking. “Around seventeen years ago, Ms Hayes and Ms Holloway started a healthy frozen meal company. This company has grown and is now worth a few billion dollars.” everyone's mouth hit the floor.
None of us saw this coming. The old men both had this stupid, shocked look on their faces. “ What the fuck are you talking about? Those two don’t know shit about starting a business, so how could they have a business worth billions. Don’t make me laugh.” Then they both looked at each other and started laughing anyway. They seriously thought that both lawyers would come here and lie about something like that. It makes no sense for them to make up something about a billion-dollar company that didn’t exist. What purpose would that lie serve? These men thought their wives were stupid and worthless, yet their wives' business was more successful than theirs. Who are the stupid, brainless ones now?
“ Your opinion of us doesn’t matter. As a matter of fact, you both should leave. You’re no longer a part of our families, and this meeting is for family members only.” Mrs Holloway's words wiped the laugh off their faces. “ We are not divorced yet, so we’ve every right to be here.” Everybody stared at them, and it was obvious that we were sick of their shit. “ If you refuse to leave, we will bring this meeting to a close. We will reconvene another time with just family members only. Since you both refuse to leave, we will, and you both can stay. Let’s go, everyone; we will let you know when the next meeting will be. Thank you all for coming.” said grandma Bernice. Mr Holloway slammed his fists on the table and yelled “ Your business was started with our money, so we’re entitled to half of that company.” Both Grandma and Mrs Holloway started laughing, and Grandma said with a smile, “ In your dreams, old fools.” This is the most enjoyable meeting we’ve had so far. Kyle and I couldn’t hold our laughs; even Dad was laughing.
The rest of the Holloway family was still shocked that Ms Holloway and Grandma had a company worth billions of dollars. Chase was laughing, and Justin was giving his grandfather some evil looks. It is so funny how all this worked out. The old men thought they were smarter than everyone else, but they were outsmarted by their wives, whom they considered stupid. If that is not karma, I don’t know what it is. Everyone was not required to attend the next meeting, but Grandma and Mrs Holloway spoke to Dad and Chase. They wanted them to take over their company because they wanted to retire and travel the world. A few weeks later, the old man's lawsuit was thrown out of court. The judge told them they could not force Justin and me to get married because neither of us had signed a contract saying we would. They were mad that they didn’t get their way. They filed another lawsuit against their ex-wives, claiming ownership of their business. We are sure that will get thrown out, too, but we still have to go through the motions. All their shenanigans are getting on everyone’s nerves.
The weekend of the singles party was here; Dad had received a hand-delivered invitation over a week ago from Lisa. When he opened the invitation, he started laughing and asked us, “You two had something to do with this, right?” raising his eyebrow at us. I laughed and said, “ Maybe,” he hugged me while shaking his head. Lisa and I took my dad shopping to help him pick a new suit for the party. I don’t think he will ever do that again. Dad thought we were too picky and was ready to leave after only forty-five minutes. He wanted to buy the first suit he thought looked good, but we were not having it. We were not looking for ‘good’; we were looking for fabulous. After we had educated him about our process, he gave us his credit card, suit, and shoe sizes and left the store without looking back. Instead of getting him one suit, we got him three from three luxury brands. I love Tom Ford men’s suits, while Lisa loves everything about Gucci. Then, we flipped a coin to decide on the next brand. The choices were Armani or Louis Vuitton. Heads for Armani and tails for Louis Vuitton. Armani won, so he got him a Louis Vuitton dress shoe.
