Chapter 74 EDGE OF DISCOVERY

Chapter 74 EDGE OF DISCOVERY

ADRIAN’S POV

We all were in the different rooms in the warehouse.

Lila introduced us to this abandoned warehouse to strike our plan, she doesn't want to see Aria so she doesn't think she's the mastermind.

Viktor is.

It was ironically true.

Serving Santiago for over five years thinking he was the boss and I was the manager was...

Something else.

Kane’s voice came softly through the comms. “Adrian… she’s moving closer. Are you sure this route is safe?”

I clenched my jaw, gripping my pistol tighter. “It’s safe if you follow the plan. Don’t improvise.”

Viper’s voice chimed in, coldly. “ No,it's isn't Adrian… there’s someone in the secondary corridor. Not scheduled. Could be a scout.”

I froze. If she was discovered, the whole plan would crumble.

“Do we engage?” Kane whispered.

“No,” I hissed. “We observe first. Let's know what good she's up to. I don't think Viktor and his men has noticed anything suspicious yet.

I shifted slightly, pressing myself.

My eyes adjusted, barely catching a glimpse of a figure moving with a hesitant gait.

“Target looks… civilian?” Viper said.

“Not likely,” I muttered. “Stay on. I’ll take the first move if it’s hostile.”

The figure paused near a stack of crates, turning their head as if sensing something.

“This is too close,” Kane muttered. “We’re exposed.”

“Relax,” I whispered, but even my own voice trembled slightly. “We’ve been through worse. Stay focused. Remember why we’re here.”

A bead of sweat ran down my temple. Aria. She was still unaware, still moving according to the path we had designed for her. But one wrong step, one unexpected interruption… and the entire operation would collapse.

I adjusted the camera feed I had hacked from the building. There. A second intruder. Moving from the opposite corridor. I held my breath.

Viper broke the silence. “Adrian… that’s too close. They’re almost intersecting with your route. If they see you…”

“I know,” I said through gritted teeth. “Just… keep tracking. No mistakes.”

The first figure paused again. Then, unexpectedly, they crouched down near a vent. My mind raced. “They’re planting something,” I muttered.

“What?” Kane’s whisper was urgent.

“Something to interfere with our comms or sensors. Could be a tracker.” I tapped into the hidden sensors I had planted.

“Adrian…” Viper’s voice was tense. “Do we take them out now?”

I shook my head. “No. Let’s see how far their reach goes. We can’t risk a premature engagement.”

My hands were shaking slightly. Not from fear, but from adrenaline. This operation had escalated far beyond what I had anticipated.

The intruder moved again, retreating toward the exit. I exhaled slowly, relief mixed with frustration. “Too close,” I muttered. “They’re testing us. "

Kane’s whisper was sharp. “Sir… what if they come back?”

“They will,” I said. “And we’ll be ready.” I adjusted my position slightly, peeking over the edge of the crates.

I tapped into the communications between my team and Lila. Her voice came soft but precise. “I’m in position. Waiting for your signal.”

“Good,” I whispered. “Stay hidden. Don’t engage unless I say. If they suspect anything, we abort immediately.”

Minutes stretched. I started hearing the sound of boot,of someone cracking against the wall.

Then, a sharp noise,a crate falling over somewhere in the warehouse. My eyes snapped toward it. My heart raced.

“Someone’s here,” I hissed. “Silent everyone.”

Kane whispered harshly, “We’ve been discovered.”

“Not yet,” I corrected, pressing myself lower. “They know something’s off, but they don’t know exactly where we are. Don’t panic. Stay calm.”

I tapped into the sensor network, checking the pathways. The new movement was deliberate. Strategic. Whoever this was, they weren’t random, they were trained, like us.

Viper’s voice came, low but urgent. “Adrian… it’s escalating. They’re getting closer to the vault where the assets are stored.”

I clenched my jaw. This was the moment I had feared, the near discovery. Everything hinged on precise timing, on silence.

One wrong move, one poorly timed reaction… and all of our efforts would be compromised.

I whispered into my comm, “Lila, reposition. Move to the secondary exit. Make it look like you’re in the original spot, but don’t be seen.”

A soft acknowledgment, she heard me. “Understood. Moving now.”

I turned my attention back to the intruders.

They were methodical, almost ritualistic in
their approach, but unaware of the traps we had set along their path. It was only a matter of seconds before the plan would either succeed or collapse entirely.

Kane muttered, “Sir… if they spot her..”

“They won’t,” I said sharply. “Not if we execute with precision.”

I adjusted my pistol, scanning every shadow, every dark corner.

Suddenly, a faint noise—a metallic click. My heart skipped. The sound of someone triggering one of our fail-safes.

“Abort!” I hissed into the comm. “Abort the original path! Lila, reroute immediately. Kane, block the east corridor. Viper, scramble the sensors!”

Chaos erupted silently. Each team member executed their commands with precision.

The intruders would think they were in control, but in reality, they were stepping into traps of my design.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing pulse.

And yet, even as I watched the intruders scramble unknowingly into our setup, I felt a thrill. I sharpened my mind, and near discovery… near discovery was when true brilliance shone.

“Hold positions,” I whispered. “We’re not done yet. They may think they’ve found us,but they haven’t. Not really. We are the shadows they will never see coming.”

The warehouse fell into a tense silence again, punctuated only by the soft, deliberate movements of my team. I leaned back slightly, letting the adrenaline fade into focus.

The plan was dangerous. The risk was enormous. But we were closer than ever.

And if we pulled this off… the fallout would be catastrophic for anyone foolish enough to cross us.

I smirked. “Almost there,” I whispered. “Just a little longer… and then they’ll see the true consequences of underestimating Adrian.”
