Chapter 49 - I Am Not Worthy of You - mduno
He was waiting for my response, looking quite uncomfortable. He lowered his gaze.
"No, Boss. Everything's going smoothly. It's..."
He glanced at Rata, who crossed his arms and raised one eyebrow, a gesture of authority that said, "You tell him or I will." My friend's expression was one of discomfort, or maybe a bit of shame.
"It's about... I'm seeing Raúl, the young lady's best friend," he said, looking down and turning red. "I understand if I'm not fit to stay by her side."
I don't know what face I made, probably one of "What the hell is this?" I choked on my water. Cebolla nodded and turned halfway around.
"Where the hell are you going?" I asked. He didn't look at me; something was bothering him. "The fact that you swing the other way hasn't affected your ability to take down whoever's assigned to you, and it certainly hasn't made you any less brave in protecting me. You surprised me. We've enjoyed many parties, and you liked women."
"And I still do, Boss. But... it's something different." I heard Rata's laughter. "Thank you, I suppose the change in mindset is thanks to the young lady."
"I'm not concerned with people's sexual preferences. I just ask that they do their job well. I didn't think you liked men."
He stayed silent. I took another sip of water to hide my urge to laugh at his expression of suffering. Yes, my life had changed, all in response to Verónica. However, despite knowing people well, I didn't see Cebolla being bisexual coming.
"I ask you for a big favor, for now, I want to keep this a secret, just between us. Inés must not find out."
"I wouldn't let you go, Cebolla. You're very good at what you do and, above all, you're my friend, you're like a brother. You just took me by surprise; I never thought... I've seen you with women!"
"Once again, thank you, Boss, and I do like women." Confirmed, my friend was playing both sides, and he was very uncomfortable.

I threw the water jar at him and laughed as I ran up the stairs two at a time to shower and wake up Verónica.
"Roland!" I stopped before entering the room.
"Yes?" I looked at him. "Don't tell me now that you want to try swinging the other way."
Cebolla felt uncomfortable, then burst out laughing when he saw Rata's face, the kind that said, "Don't mess with me, remember I taught you how to fight and I can give you a beating no one else can."
"Marlon said last night that the apartment was ready. You can go and give your opinion."
"So soon? I thought he'd hand it over tomorrow."
"Are you prepared for the reaction?"
I nodded and shook my head at the same time. I didn't know how she would react to finding out she owned an apartment worth a million dollars.
"I'm telling you because you need to be prepared."
"Yes, I suppose she won't want to see me for a while."
My friend nodded and left. After thinking for a moment, I entered the room. It was a quarter to six in the morning, and Verónica was still asleep. I stood there looking at her, I don't know for how long, until the light filtered through the window, bringing her beautiful hair to life.
She was the only one who could say, "I sleep with Roland Sandoval." At least to the rest of the world, she was my woman, even though I hadn't been able to sleep with her. She looked so peaceful sleeping, as if nothing troubled her. I envied that peace. Beautiful. I touched her toes, she stretched and smiled at me.
"Good morning," she looked so small in the bed.
"Good morning, love. Get up," I said.
"And where are we going now?"
"Don't worry, I have no interest in..."
I knew she thought I was always trying to find a way to get to the end. She jumped out of bed like a flash and covered my mouth. Something bothered her, and I moved her hand away.
"What did I say now?" She tried to speak but turned red, her attitude was indecisive. "Verónica, what did I say now?" I shrugged.
"You liked it..." What was she talking about? I didn't say anything, I preferred to stay quiet and find out what she meant. "We haven't talked about it."
Her face turned even redder, her expression was charming and innocent. She was my beautiful one. She didn't know what to do with her hands.
"I'm aware I don't have experience and that you've been with countless women." I didn't want to laugh. "I learn quickly, it's just..."
"You think I didn't like it when you sucked my... my penis?"

I pulled out some comfortable clothes; jeans and a t-shirt. After that wonderful experience, I had to face her reaction when I told her. Veronica went into the bathroom, grabbed her shampoo, and I left her alone to get ready.
We had breakfast, I had bought her clothes to keep at my place. Ines arranged her things next to mine. Rata was analyzing us, she played with my fingers, she was shy and I loved that she was.
We created a comfortable bubble, the others left while we, with silly smiles, talked without saying a word. We were already smitten. I took her hand, sighed, I had to kiss her before receiving her punishment. I pushed her against the wall and took possession of her mouth, how I loved kissing her, her breath was addictive.

"She won't accept either term." We got in the car. "Rata, pick up the package."
"Any problem?" She put on her seatbelt. "If you want, I can stay at the house with Ines while you handle the package negotiation, or drop me off at my place."
"I think I told you that you won't leave this house."
She looked out the window, and I could swear she was smiling. The building where Veronica will live is fifteen minutes from my house by car without traffic. The place was incredible, a condominium that turned out to be a success, and I got the best apartment. My girlfriend's phone rang.
"Hi Lore."
Her friend, I waited for the guard to let us through, she frowned at me.
"No problem, and what do you want to dance?" I entered the parking lot. "Okay... two days?"
Got it, that's settled. Roland, what are we doing here?
