Chapter 310 - Keeping myself busy - meters
Veronica
"Mami." Dante took my face. "No hurt, no, ma," Enrique began kissing my cheek, mimicking what I do when they fall and I kiss them while they cry. I held onto those little bodies, while the tears kept flowing. No one said anything, they all let me cry. After a while, when Dante and Enrique, unusually, fell asleep in my arms.
"Come, let me help you, daughter."
"Thanks, Dad."
"I saw there's a room with Roland's name on it. Consuelo and I took one of the six that don't have names. These men think of everything."
"Roland, Dad."
He took Dante from my arms. I clung tighter to Enrique's little body as we headed to the room. The room... It was like a twenty-star hotel with five diamonds! A huge bed, we laid the kids down and I covered them with a blanket, the rooms were cold.
"They must control this place. The air conditioning turned on out of nowhere."
Dad opened the doors, one led to a dream bathroom that had another door, opening it led to another room. He came back and opened the second door, which was the room connected to the bathroom.
"This is the children's room, there are four single beds. They think of everything."
"My head hurts." Dad's phone rang.
"Tell me, Roland... Yes... okay... I'll keep an eye out." I remembered he's watching me, the problem is I can't see cameras anywhere. He hung up the call. "Your husband telling me where the first aid kit is, I'll be right back, I'll also get you something for your nerves. Be right back." He left and Luisa came in.
"I'm not here to give you words of encouragement, I put myself in your shoes and I know what you're feeling. Now, I'm fully confident that my brother will come back with the kids, he must have half the world working on it and I also know what he's capable of if something happens to his little pieces of life."
"Luisa..."
"Wait, Vero. This complex is equipped with everything, I found their surveillance room and if I can get into Simon's network, I can analyze, although they must already know a lot, but I need to do something."
"Where are you going with this?"
"Tell me if, besides Any and the guys, anyone knew Ronald wouldn't be here. Because I've asked and none of us knew my brother was on his way to Germany."
"I only found out minutes before Miguel picked him up. Do you think someone told the guy from Russia?" She started snapping her fingers.
"Tell me what you know."
"Roland told me it was Marcela who took my kids and killed Lucrecia. Oh God! She was just a girl, what will we tell her parents?"
"Marcela... I know Any wasn't the snitch, and the guys even less, how did they anticipate this move?"
"She's now on her way to Medellin."
"Hell is going to break loose in the beautiful city of eternal spring. I need to look at the cameras and find out what's happening. Nikolay didn't know, but he did order Lupe's killing."
"Here, daughter." Dad came in with two pills and a glass of water. "What a first aid kit this complex has, it looks like an operating room with a pharmacy next to it."
"That's your son-in-law."
I took the pills and lay down, hugging my two sleeping children. My dad stayed by my side, stroking my head.
"I'll always be by your side, daughter." Those words embraced my aching soul.
......
Luisa
I had entered the control room. This system complex is my husband's work and I had already tried twice with the password to get in when my phone rang and I smiled.
"Can you tell me, my beautiful Black-haired woman, what you're doing trying to bypass my security system?"
"I'm not trying to bypass it, love, I need to do something or I'll go crazy. Besides, I want to see the Renacer cameras and find out what happened."
"It's the date of our first kiss." My heart skipped a beat. "Saying it sounds pretty cheesy."
"For me, no." I entered, a thousand things unfolded, these men have eyes everywhere. "Simon, I can't find a connection between Marcela and knowing Roland wasn't there."
"She didn't know, it was all circumstantial. When she realized she'd been tricked by the farce, she wanted revenge, and since the only place she knew to go was Roland's estate, she went with the intention of killing Veronica. She mistook Lucrecia for Vero, and without verifying if it was her, she shot, which woke the children. When she saw it wasn't the person she wanted, she called Nikolay, who was visiting his family in Medellin. She asked him how much he would charge to take two of Roland's children. They negotiated, came to an amount, and that's why he took them.
"No one noticed because everyone was busy with their tasks. It seems illogical, but that's what happened, that was the motivation. Now Marcela has millions in her bank account that she won't enjoy because we froze her money. She's still on the plane Nikolay got for her.
"And Lobo and Arnold?"
"They realized they were being betrayed when Franka wanted more money, so she betrayed them. I have no idea who Franka is. I'll fill you in later. They found out Arnold never left our group, they knew about the kids, where they were living.
"So, when the device was activated and he didn't die, he felt mocked and called his enemy to kill him. The kids were never part of Nikolay's plan, we underestimated a woman.
"I don't want to say I told you so, but I can't help myself," I scolded.
"Yes, you told me we should be careful with a hurt and scorned woman who had no prejudices or values. That will be a reminder for life.
"How's my brother?"
"Right now, he's Roland, without feelings. I'll be taking care of him. Everything is ready, it might seem insignificant, but he didn't accept being called Roland, he's the Boss. We all know how he acts when he becomes a son of a bitch. They messed with what he holds most sacred, and he adores his four kids, but they took his favorites.
"How is everyone else? Ines, remember she needs to take her medication."
"She already did. Lupe is in labor right now, she hasn't dilated, Rino says she's close, Lobo has a wound in his lung, missing a finger, and is covered in bruises. Arnold had the bullet removed from his left calf a while ago, and they took out the hearing device. The rest of us are fine.
"I'll tell the girls, they're worried sick."
"Watch the ranches, I don't want another dead worker.
"Take care, you're the best, just come back alive. I love you."
"Not more than I love you."
I went out in search of a strong coffee, and in the kitchen, Mrs. Josefina was leading the food preparation with my mom.
"Luisa," Mrs. Josefina called me.
"Ma'am."
"After Veronica, you're next in line as leader. Vero is out of sorts, and rightly so, only true mothers suffer with the disappearance of a child. But I feel and see that this operation is dark. I'm worried about Patricia, Gustavo, all the boys. We won't like what we see when they return."
"Don't scare me, Mrs. Josefina." She has a very marked accent that sounds really nice.
"Oh, dear... Things happen as they should, and God's timing is perfect, even if we don't understand it."
"Are you saying this about anyone in particular?"
"We'll handle the meals while our sons come for us. We must take care of Clarisa and Gladis, who just gave birth, and Shirly, who's in her first months. Let's not tell her everything." Just then, Fausto came in.
"She's asleep. Even though she promised me, she can't stop worrying, and I'm afraid she'll hurt herself."
"Don't worry, Fausto, it's not Vero's life I see dimming." When Mrs. Josefina said that, my skin crawled.
