Chapter 194 - Don't Wake Up the Camp - Feds
Roland
I waited for my wife to get ready. The dress showed just how thin she had become. I picked up the monitor to listen to them. I had also placed a camera on the crib, linked the IP to Veronica's phone. For the first eight days, she wouldn't have her phone, but after that, she would and could see the kids. I had the same image. We would go down for breakfast while they stayed asleep. Veronica kept looking at them.
"Roland, take care of them, please."
"Beautiful, why do you think I'm staying?" I cupped her face and kissed her. "Let's go have breakfast."
When we went down to the immense dining room, all my friends were there, Raul and Santiago. We were on a tight schedule. Carmela had made a delicious breakfast. My wife kept glancing at her phone to check on our children. I took her hand. Miguel got up from the table.
"Vero, you need to get to the airport. Come on, it's time to start saying goodbye."
With nostalgia, my wife said goodbye to Luisa, Diana, my mother, Ines, Guadalupe. When she got to Gustavo, she said something to him, and did the same with Arnold, Daniel, and Anibal. She hugged Simon and Miguel at the same time, and I swear she whispered something to them. Finally, she hugged Don Fausto, her father, who kissed her on the forehead. She ran into my arms when she saw me.
"I love you. This is our last test where we'll be apart."
I hugged her tightly. I had faith that everything would turn out fine, but I couldn't help but worry a little. After all, I was only human.
"I love you, Veronica. I hope you can come back sooner."
"Take care of my children." I said goodbye to Santiago and Raul.
"Raul, Santiago, call me. And if you don't, be patient because I'll be bothering you every hour."
"Don't worry, brother-in-law, you know I'll take care of my little sister."
"I know."
"And you know I'll be looking out for her too."
I shook Raul's hand. I accompanied my wife to the car, where Miguel was already waiting. I kissed her again.
"You're forbidden from dying," I said after kissing her desperately. My heart was in my throat.
"You know they won't operate on me. Everything will be fine. And I can't come back sooner because of the kids; otherwise, I'd be home in ten days." I kissed her again. The cry of one of the babies came through the monitor. "You've got work to do, Dad. I'm just going to banish this illness so we can be happy until death do us part."
As she got into the car, I headed back into the house towards the bedroom. When I entered, Guadalupe was holding Victoria, who had woken up. My other children were still asleep. I picked up my princess and sat in the rocking chair while Lupe prepared a couple of ounces of formula. But it wasn't hunger that my daughter had; it was an overwhelming need for her daddy's affection.
I couldn't avoid the sadness. It was noon when Veronica called to say she was at the clinic. They wouldn't let her have her phone and she wouldn't be able to see anyone. Raul and Santiago would only receive updates on her condition in the morning and evening. Raul was going to take the opportunity to handle some business for the jam company.
Santiago was there just to keep an eye on my wife. Once I hung up the call, I entrusted her to the Lord. We had lunch at home. Simon sent us a message through our group chat, requesting an urgent meeting. It was essential to talk and of vital importance.
For that reason, I told Ines to pack the babies' bags because we would be meeting at our headquarters. They didn't know about the underground apartment I had built that connected the four estates. It was time, and it was equipped to set up our intelligence headquarters. My mother understood when she saw me.
Miguel took off his shirt, put on the harness, then put his shirt back on but didn't button it. He picked up Liam. Gustavo and Arnold did the same with Dante and Enrique. I was still holding Victoria, who was clingy and only calmed down with her daddy.
Daniel and Anibal carried the children's bags. My father-in-law and my mother were in their love nest, having moved in together. Diana was at her house, as was Pecosa. The only one who was puzzled by what was happening was Lupe. Ines called her over and said she would explain later. I led my group through the basement. We walked until we reached the underground headquarters.
"You piece of shit, when were you planning to tell us?" I looked at Simón, who had a bag with his computers.
"Each hideout connects to this place. If anyone wants to investigate on their own, they can do it without anyone knowing they're leaving their house. From the basement of La Apuesta, Las Alondras, and El Oasis, there's access to this place."
"Alright."
Arnold sat on a large couch in the communications room, similar to the one we had at my house. Beside it were all the disks with information on all the cartels and mafias. All the information stolen from the house in Bogotá was here.
"What do you need us for, Rat?"
"Shithead." I smiled; this would be our little space to talk however we wanted. "This is serious business."
Miguel and I looked at Simón. Enrique started crying. I checked the time; it was his feeding time. I took his bottle out of the bag. We had left colors for each one. Pink for my princess, blue for intruder number one, green for number two, and white for my unexpected guest. I prepared the ounces of milk and handed it to Arnold. They already knew how to feed the kids. When I looked at them, they were all watching me. I shrugged.
"We were afraid of you three years ago because you didn't hesitate to kill anyone you wanted, and seeing you like this, it's like you're a different person," Aníbal commented.
"Verónica changed me completely, just like Clarisa did with Daniel, Shirly with you, Aníbal, Gladis with Gustavo, not to mention Luisa for Simón and Diana for Miguel. Now the only one left is Arnold, although it's clear a Mexican woman irritates him. But to the point, I'm curious why Rat called us."
Shithead shook his head at my comment about him and continued feeding my son. My little girl was still asleep, as were Dante and Liam. After checking on my kids, I looked at Rat. He turned on the monitors he had connected to his laptop. On the giant screen were the photos of the five bosses of the world's strongest mafias.
"Rat..." Miguel spoke while I continued looking at the screen. "This goes back to what we discovered in Brazil. We still don't know what their interest is in exterminating Roland's cartel."
"Why are you showing us the images of the mafia bosses from Italy, Russia, South Korea, Japan, and Turkey?" I asked.
"Boss."
When Simón called me that, everyone looked at him. It only meant one thing: there was trouble.
"They're very interested in you. They're getting involved and digging around. Now they know you changed because of a woman." My heart raced. "I want to ask you a question. I can speak for the men here, and I assure you we'll be on your side no matter what you decide."
I looked at everyone. Each one affirmed Rat's words. I finished my check and focused on my right hand.
"What are you willing to do if they keep investigating and get close to Verónica?"
I changed only for her. If they do something to her, only for her will I return. That was the deal with the Lord. I smiled, and they recognized my attitude. It was the expression I used when I had no conscience, when I was a soulless demon.
"Rat. Make sure those little mafiosos don't wake the boss..."

Note:
Thank you very much for reading and accompanying me in this second installment of the novel Different Worlds - Beware of the Boss's Children. I hope you enjoy it.
I want to mention that this book was written many years ago, and the chapters were extremely long. Therefore, to publish them on the app, they had to be divided. Due to word count issues, they can't be left too long. I apologize for that.
I invite you to continue with the third book, which will be on this same link and identified in the chapter titles as "mdtres." Different Worlds 3. Hugs.
