Chapter 137 - They Love to Death - Fedds
Veronica
"You're an agent, you have ideologies in your mind where they are the bad guys. But if you believe in God even a little, remember that archangels have also killed, they kill demons. To me, they are angels. As my brother said, fallen, but angels nonetheless.
"They haven't killed a woman, they don't even dare to lay a hand on one, let alone a child. They've slept with many women, none underage, and they were all willing. They love Ines like their mother, they respect her.
"Do you think if they were bad people, they wouldn't respect those codes? They protect each other. They guard their hearts, and when they give them away, they become the most loyal men. I'm telling you again, don't be afraid.
"I never... everything you said, he has awakened in me."
"Then take the risk." She looked at the ring, and I showed her mine. "Diana and Ines also have their respective trackers, it's true! They are control freaks, a flaw you eventually accept, especially when they save your life by locating you.
"Why so secluded?" I smiled at Simon, took Isaac from him, and showed him to Luisa.
"Let me introduce you to the center of the family's happiness. This bundle of tenderness is the reason I came out of my depression." She caressed his little head. "It's time to hand this bundle over to his father so he can rock him to sleep."
As I turned around, I winked at Simon and left them talking in the same place where I had been talking with Luisa. It was definite; I really liked that woman.
Raul surprised me when he arrived early at the farm. "We went to bed tired last night." I ran to hug him tightly; I hadn't seen him in two months, he had been traveling around the world. I introduced him to Diana and Luisa, and they both liked him. I kept an eye on how he greeted Miguel, and it was as normal as could be, which made me happy. It meant they were leaving the past behind.
Today we worked from sunrise to sunset. Everyone pitched in to get the place ready for the wedding. It was rustic, cowboy-themed, with tables, arrangements, a dance floor, glassware, and decorations. The day flew by. At sunset, Juan arrived, and I grimaced.
"Hello, Vero." He greeted me with a kiss on the cheek.
"Hi, Juan. Do I need to clarify anything?" He shook his head, smiling.
"You've made it clear twice."
"Perfect." I smiled at him. At that moment, Luisa arrived, and I introduced them. "This is a friend and partner in one of the construction companies."
"Nice to meet you. Luisa San..." We were interrupted by Simon.
"Miss Johnson!" He took her hand, interlacing their fingers. I saw the fear in her eyes.
"Luisa." She looked at me. "Remember, two options." She sighed and looked at him.
"Thank you."
"My name is Juan Marquez."
"Nice to meet you."
"Vero, how can I help?" Oh great, is he staying now? I sighed.
"They need people on the stage."
"Thank you."
He kissed my forehead and left. I watched Luisa adjust her glasses; she had a habit, or they were too big for her. The ceremony started, and finally, my brother took that big step at the altar and said, "I do."
"Oh my God, I said it!"
Everyone burst into laughter while Luz Marina shook her head, amused by her now husband's behavior. Juan had stayed close, and it bothered me a little. My friends had noticed and helped me out. It wasn't that they were jealous, though some guests might think so.
It was just that I belonged to Roland, and they knew it. My confident demeanor was part of adapting to his absence. Didn't Juan understand that I didn't want anything with anyone? I had to be honest, the poor guy hadn't said anything about it, but he wouldn't leave me alone. When the reception started with the newlyweds, even though I didn't want to dance, I took my best friend's hand and led him to the dance floor.
"Raul, your job is to keep Juan at bay, so let's try to keep dancing. If he asks me to dance, only let me dance one song with him, and then find any excuse to get me away from him."
"You're the most straightforward woman, just tell him."
I hugged my Skinny. I missed him so much; because of his job, he couldn't be near me like before.
"What do you think I've done? I already told him! Even so, he stays close, and to get rid of him, I'd have to throw him out, and I don't want to. He wants to be my friend, he hasn't made any more advances."
"He left you tied up."
"Thanks for understanding."
"I'll do it, only because I haven't danced this well in years."
"Exaggerator. But even though I don't have the heart for this, I prefer it to having Juan close. I don't want to give him false hopes."
"Onion looks in love, right?" I bit the inside of my cheek, sighed, and nodded.
"Does it hurt?"
"No, believe me, it doesn't. He's more on that team than mine. I just hope whatever's tormenting him doesn't ruin his relationship with Diana. That girl is beautiful and has a precious baby, looks like a little ball. Will you tell me her story?"
"She'll be the one to tell you, but I don't want her to know about your relationship with Miguel. He doesn't want it, and please, my friend, could you keep that truth hidden?"
"She'll never know from me. Call it what it was, a fling, it wasn't a relationship."
"Thanks." It wasn't a fling; it was trauma eating away at Miguel's soul.
"Another one in love is Simón with that gorgeous brunette. She reminds me of someone." She wasn't the only one who had that feeling. "I go away for a few months, and everyone's paired up. Well, my friend, let's show these people what salsa dancing is."

Miguel
Now things were looking good. Diana wouldn't stop talking to that idiot friend of Santiago's, and to top it off, there was Juan, trailing after her like a lapdog. Thankfully, Raúl had captured her, and they'd been dancing for an hour, putting on a show with their dancing, though with the Boss, they made magic.
"Feeling calmer now?"
Rata said as he sat next to me. I didn't take my eyes off Diana and that guy; they'd been laughing together non-stop. Was he a comedian or something?
"From your face, it doesn't seem like it."
"With the lady, ever since Raúl started dancing with her, I've been calm."
"Do you feel the same?" I nodded. "Luisa mentioned if I was in love with Mrs. Verónica. She noticed my constant glances at the lady while the guy passed by her side."
"Diana made the same comment a few months ago. And it's not jealousy, it's... I feel like I have to protect her, she's the Boss's woman."
"I feel the same. It's not jealousy because she's a woman who attracts me, it's like the duty to protect her because she's my friend's woman."
"The only person who understands us is Inés. To everyone else, we look like jealous men. We're screwed! The women we like think something else."
"Mine apparently doesn't care anymore."
I commented, turning my gaze when I heard laughter that echoed through the town. I clenched my fists.
"We should get that guy a pass for Saturday Night Live." Rata's laughter made me look at him. "What's the joke now?"
"I told you Diana would draw attention once she got her social life back."
"Well, she's not going out anymore. She's the mother of my child."
"But you don't want anything with her."
"She's mine!"
I was about to put a bullet in that jerk. I was so close to doing it when I saw the bastard take her out to dance and hug her. It was already night. The party was in full swing. If it weren't for my ulcer, I'd say the gathering was going very well. I endured the first dance, now they should sit. Come on, Diana, sit down, be obedient and sit, but she didn't. The flirt made it clear she could keep dancing.
"Screw this!"
Rata's laughter echoed again. I walked over to where she was smiling brightly while dancing. When our eyes met, I saw her get nervous.
"Lost someone?"
The bastard said. I looked at him, making it clear that if he didn't leave her alone, I'd put a bullet in his head. I held back; I couldn't be such an ass in front of Diana.
"Sorry to ruin the moment, but my son needs his mother."
I took her hand, interlacing our fingers. Damn electricity I felt every time I touched her. Now she'd get all prissy, but to my delight, she didn't. That counts as a point in my favor.
"Sorry, let me tend to my baby, and I'll be back."
"Fine!" He smiled, and I grimaced. Over my dead body, you'll dance with my woman again. "I'll be waiting here, princess."
"Diana, her name is Diana." The guy raised an eyebrow.
"Are you with him?" The jerk spoke up. I looked at her and saw fear in her eyes.
"You know," I spoke. "Thanks!"
It was definite, I couldn't take it anymore. I'd talk to her; she'd be my woman, wife, and the mother of all my children. I couldn't lose her. Today, I saw what everyone had been telling me. I needed her in my life.
"What are you thanking for?" I got closer to the guy and whispered in his ear.
"Because thanks to you, I realized I don't want to lose my woman."
The guy turned red. I walked away, holding my little torment's hand. To my surprise, she stayed quiet, which was very unusual. I saw the lady sitting next to Simón, Luisa, Raúl, and Juan. Rata would take care of her; now I had a matter to settle with my little torment.
