Chapter 115 - Testament (Part 2) - Mddos
Simon
Everyone got up and went to sign the countless documents; I was the last to do so. When I handed the papers to the assistant, the vanilla scent reminded me of the dark-haired woman at the airport. When she noticed my reaction, she looked up. She was very different from the girl I saw, but I also knew her talent for disguises.
"Excuse me, Mr. Simon, but the way you're looking at me makes me uncomfortable. Could you please stop?"
"I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. Although, you just contradicted yourself. A few minutes ago, you made it clear that Miguel caught your attention. I apologize if I offended you." She blushed again.
"I forgive you. And is there a problem with my interest in Miguel?" I shook my head.
The young woman continued with her work, storing the documents. They left, and we remained in silence for several long minutes. I walked around the office. The guys didn't say anything. The lawyer and I agreed on another meeting to sign the property transfers and for the guys to receive theirs. When did you do all this crap? That bastard knew how to deceive me.
"Is that a lot of money from the rentals and the percentage? From the looks on your faces, it seems like it is."
"Mom," I said. "For example, if the monthly earnings are a hundred million, you get ten million." Ines's eyes widened.
"But with the difference that the boss's earnings are more than ten times the hundred million, as Rata said. It's a lot of money, Mom. Not to mention the rentals of the houses he built."
Rasca culo was the financial guy; that was his field... Is that why you did it? You put Gustavo in the company in the finance department several months ago... I looked at the lady. Her desire to get out of this mess started with her. The trips you took only...
"Why are you looking at us, Ratita?"
"Call me that again, and I'll cut your damn tongue out," Arnold smiled. "When did you start working for Roland in the legal companies in the marketing and advertising department?" The youngest of them all looked at me.
"About six months or so before his death. He told me to learn from the bottom up and take more courses to earn the management position in the marketing and advertising department." I looked at Daniel and understood.
"For me, it was about seven months ago in the transportation department, also before his death, and he told me the same thing. Didn't you know?"
"Of course, I knew you were working in the companies. What I'm analyzing now is that he did it after meeting the young lady, and coincidences don't exist."
With Churrusco, it wasn't recent. Since he graduated as an agronomist, he had been working on some farms... I looked at Churrusco.
"Until you caught on. The agricultural farms he's been sending me to get good production from since I graduated are mine, according to the list of properties the lawyer gave me."
"He was training us for this," Gustavo said.
"That was his modus operandi," Miguel added.
"What am I going to do with that money if I don't spend anything?" Ines interrupted us again. For her, it was too much money. "You all pay for everything, and my salary is quite generous. Not to mention what each of you deposits into my account as a bonus for who knows what."
"Well, now you can help your sisters in Chocó more," the lady said, holding her head. "I can't imagine the absurd amount of money in my name." She looked at us. "I hope the day has been productive for you."
"I feel disoriented, ma'am, and with this... the new stuff, I don't know what to think," I admitted. "Yesterday, I was a hitman; that's what I was paid for." I stood by the window, looking at the house's inner garden. "In the morning, I left," I looked at them. "We left the Colombian mafia. In the afternoon, I just became a shareholder with 15% of Roland's empire. I have properties I didn't know about. I feel disoriented with someone I thought I knew all their moves, and I just found out that bastard knew how to deceive me. So I have no idea how to feel."
"I'm worse off than you, Rat," said Onion, scratching his head. "In my case, add that I've had a kid for two days."
The guys made faces like they were in the same or worse situation. It was baffling, and what kept spinning in my head was the woman who came as an assistant.
"Roland has given you a new path to follow," the woman's voice was dull.
"We're still stuck with the same mystery, it's not that easy, ma'am. In nine days, we'll see hell break loose in Colombia for those who don't follow the will's orders. We'll have to leave the country for a while," I said. "Regardless of what's in that will. The mafia is just looking for scapegoats, and with the boss gone, those of us in this place are in the crosshairs."
"I won't leave Colombia unless it's strictly necessary. My brother is getting married, my sister-in-law is having a baby, Diana is starting school, I have foundations where I work happily. It's not my profession, but helping always fills me with joy. Besides, now I have Diana under my protection. Her life has been too complicated, and I feel the need to give her love and offer her a family. I won't abandon her."
"Wherever we go, she'll come with us," Onion intervened. "I didn't decide to become a father to not live near my child." The woman smiled gratefully at those words.
"Anyway," I said, "something's still missing. It's my instinct; we're overlooking something."
"I've been telling you that for a long time," Gustavo spoke up.
"My husband is the only one missing among us," the woman commented, her eyes about to shed tears again. "That's enough for me today."
With that, she left the office, and Inés followed to oversee dinner. I sighed. We remained silent. We were his closest group, his brothers.
"So, what do we do now?"
"Get to the bottom of it, find out where Roland's plan failed and who continues to help him. When do I travel to Blanco, Texas?"
"Wednesday," Onion told me. "Tomorrow is Isaac's baptism, and we have the barbecue at the farm. The lady's family won't take long to arrive; Mr. Fausto called to inform me they had left, and in a couple of hours, they'll be at the house."
"Guys, besides our protection duties, we now have to take over the different departments of the companies we're now partners in. Those were the legal businesses, and they'll continue to be. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
"Onion, despite Roland's ultimatum, we're still in the crosshairs. They'll wait until the ninth day and then act based on our decisions. Please, increase security. I'll be out of the country for about three days. I want to look at and talk to the engineer of the house he had built in that city. Give me any info you have on the unknown cell phone. I must find something. And I'm traveling with Turd."
"What? I'm traveling?" We looked at him, and he smiled. "You know it's not common... I've never gone on a mission with the head of security, only on family trips." The idiot made us smile.
"I also have info on the older woman who was in the clinic. You'll have all the information in your email." He leaned back on the couch and smiled after a few seconds.
"Share the joke, Onion."
"I just remembered the bosses' faces. Roland screwed them all. For a moment, I felt like he was among us. Always so theatrical and cutting off all the heads. He had an incredible mind."
"Did you see Sapillo and Medrano's faces?"
"The truth is, even dead, people still fear him, and the bastard could find a way to come back from hell to haunt anyone." I burst out laughing.
"Let's see how it all ends. For now, we have to work much harder."
The doorbell rang. As we left the office, we saw Mrs. Veronica's family come in. For now, stop thinking. Later, I'll keep racking my brain. Right now, it's time to spend with family.
