Did you talk to sister-in-law?

Did you talk to sister-in-law?
The sun had long since dipped below the horizon, casting the room into shadows as Liam Harper confronted Kyler’s father James Young, his voice dripping with fury. “What is the meaning of this, James? Explain to me.”
James leaned back in his chair, his brow furrowed, trying to maintain a veneer of calm. “Calm down, Liam. Let’s sit down and talk. Tell me what happened.”
Liam paced the floor, his fists clenched at his sides. “It’s your precious son! He canceled the latest deal.”
“What…??” James’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Yes!” Liam snapped, the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a knife. “Not only this, but he also called Zoe and told her to tell me to call off the wedding!”
James stood up, his composure shattering like glass. “What? He did that?”
Liam nodded, his frustration boiling over. “Yes! Now, what do I do?”
At that moment, Evelyn entered the room, followed by Stephen. She took in the charged atmosphere and asked, “Did Kyler really do that?”
“Yes! Why would I lie?” Liam replied, his voice sharp.
Evelyn shook her head, her anger momentarily tempered. “This punk…” But then her expression softened as she added, “But don’t worry, I will talk to Kyler.”
Liam’s demeanor shifted slightly, appreciating her willingness to intervene, though he remained wary.
James looked at Liam, “Don’t worry, Liam. The wedding will go as planned.”
Stephen felt a wave of disapproval wash over him as he listened to his parents, but he remained silent. This wasn’t the right time to voice his concerns.
Instead, he slipped out of the room and found Kyler in the hallway.
“Big bro,” he said, catching up with him. “Liam Harper is here, and he’s talking to Mom and Dad about what you did.”
Kyler nodded, his expression unreadable.
“Won’t you say anything?” Stephen pressed, concern etched on his face.
Kyler shook his head. “How’s progress coming along?”
“Noah is personally handling things,” Stephen replied, glancing around to ensure they weren’t overheard. “He kidnapped Liam’s assistant the very night when he announced your engagement with Zoe.”
Kyler nodded slowly, a mixture of anger and satisfaction brewing inside him. “Did he say anything?”
“Guess, bro.” Stephen asked.
Kyler remained silent.
Stephen looked at Kyler, since he had been too sad from past couple of days, he didn’t press further. “He confessed everything, how they planned Grandpa’s death.”
Kyler’s heart sank, a bitter taste rising in his throat. “Any proof?”
Stephen nodded. “He mentioned transactions they made. Noah is working to retract them.”
A sigh of relief escaped Kyler’s lips. “Ask him to call me when he’s done finding them.”
They stepped outside, headed back to the Devil Organization.
As they drove, Stephen shot a worried glance at Kyler. “Did you talk to sister-in-law?”
Kyler shook his head, a wave of despair washing over him.
Arielle hadn’t picked up his calls for days.
He had gone to her house, stood outside, but she refused to see him. Her parents had politely asked him to leave.
Despite all of this, he went outside her home, and waited to see her, but she didn’t even show her face to him.
Each time he thought about her expression, a haunting mixture of pain and anger, his heart ached deeper.
Feeling Stephen’s concern, Kyler dismissed it. “No point. She doesn’t want to talk to me.”
Stephen hesitated before changing the subject. “By the way, big bro, I heard the President of King is back.”
Kyler’s interest piqued momentarily. “Did he agree to meet?”
“Umm… well… no.”
Kyler scoffed, irritation flaring. “Then why are you telling me this?”
“Right, sorry,” Stephen murmured. “Oh, but there’s a mission tomorrow night. Are you interested in joining?”
Kyler’s expression hardened. “Related to Richard?”
Stephen nodded, the gravity of the situation settling between them. “Yeah, he’s been causing trouble. The guild and various factions have ordered to wipe him off the map.”
“Count me in,” Kyler said, his voice low and menacing.
He felt the familiar rush of adrenaline, the chaotic thrill of impending violence swirling in his chest. Maybe a mission would distract him from the relentless ache of losing Arielle.
Next night..
As the sun sank low again, painting the sky in hues of crimson and violet, Kyler and Stephen prepared for the night ahead.
Inside the dimly lit confines of the Devil Organization’s headquarters, tension crackled in the air, thick and suffocating.
The walls were adorned with various weapons and maps, each item a testament to the organization’s violent legacy.
Kyler’s focus sharpened as he went over the details of the mission. Richard had been a thorn in their side for too long, and tonight was the night they would finally strike back.
As he strapped on his gear, Stephen watched him with concern. “You sure you’re ready for this, big bro? You’ve been… distant.”
“Distant?” Kyler shot back, his voice harsher than he intended. “I’m focused. That’s what matters.”
Stephen sighed, frustration simmering beneath the surface. “I know you’re hurting about Sister in law. You can’t just ignore it.”
“Don’t,” Kyler warned, his voice low and dangerous. “Just focus on the mission.”
But Stephen could see through Kyler’s tough facade. His brother was breaking, each day slipping further into darkness. And he didn’t know how to pull him back.
