Was his love enough?
Was his love enough?
Kyler arrived at the hospital with Noah and Stephen. The stark white walls and the sterile smell did little to soothe his nerves.
As he approached the room where Nikolas, Katya, and Sergei were being treated, a wave of dread washed over him.
His footsteps echoed down the quiet hallway, the sound amplifying his anxiety.
Nikolas was the first to spot Kyler.
Despite his injuries, he tried to sit up, his face lighting up when he saw his boss. “Boss,” he greeted, his voice strained but filled with relief.
Kyler quickly moved to his side, gently pushing him back down. “Lie down, Nikolas. How are you feeling?”
Nikolas attempted a weak smile. “Been better.”
Kyler’s expression hardened. “What happened?”
Nikolas’s eyes darkened as he recounted the events. “It was a setup. The blast hit us hard. Maxim Blackwood… he drugged us after the explosion, kept us weak.”
Kyler’s fists clenched. He listened intently, his face a mask of fury and concern.
When Nikolas finished, Kyler spoke, his voice low and fierce. “Don’t worry. Maxim Blackwood is dead now. Focus on your recovery.”
Nikolas nodded, “Noah told us.”
Kyler then checked on Katya and Sergei. Katya, though injured, looked better than Nikolas. Her eyes met Kyler’s with a determined glint.
Sergei, however, was in a more serious condition. His injuries were more severe, but he was out of danger.
“Rest, all of you,” Kyler ordered. “Call me if you need anything.”
A week later, Liam Harper launched a grand party. He invited almost all the influential families of Spring Island to celebrate his latest business collaboration.
The event was held at the luxurious Rising Star Hotel in Devil City, a venue known for hosting the elite.
Arielle entered the party with her brother, Asher Reynolds. Her eyes scanned the opulent surroundings, taking in the high level of extravagance.
The chandeliers sparkled above, and the room buzzed with the chatter of powerful figures.
As she mingled, Arielle spotted some of King’s business partners.
Excusing herself from Asher, she made her way toward them, hoping to engage in some strategic conversations.
She was in the middle of a discussion when she noticed Kyler entering the hotel with Noah and Stephen. Her heart skipped a beat, her expression softening at the sight of him.
It had been almost two weeks since she last saw him. Their eyes met across the crowded room, a silent exchange of longing and unspoken words.
Arielle was about to walk toward Kyler when a familiar voice called out to her. “Little one.”
She stiffened, turning to see Ryle standing behind her. He was dressed impeccably in a cyan-colored shirt and black pants, looking as handsome as ever.
The sight of him stirred a whirlwind of emotions within her. She had last seen him in Shellington City, and discovering that he was still alive..
And it had shaken her to the core..
Ryle waved his hand in front of her eyes. “What happened, little one?”
Arielle opened her mouth, but no words came out. The shock of seeing Ryle again rendered her speechless.
Kyler watched as Ryle approached Arielle, his presence casting a shadow over the reunion he had hoped for.
His fist clenched at his side, his knuckles white.
He saw the way Arielle looked at Ryle, and it felt like a dagger to his heart.
The pain in her eyes, mingled with a glimmer of something deeper, twisted the knife further.
Noah noticed the change in Kyler’s demeanor. “You okay?” he asked, concern lacing his voice.
Kyler didn’t respond, his gaze fixed on Arielle and Ryle.
He felt frozen, unable to tear his eyes away from the scene unfolding before him.
They looked perfect together, too perfect.
For the first time, Kyler felt like an outsider in Arielle’s world, a spectator to a story in which he was only a supporting character.
The room seemed to close in around him.
He saw the pained yet loving expression on Arielle’s face as she looked at Ryle, and it shattered him. In that moment, Kyler questioned his worth.
Was his love enough?
Could he compete with the history and connection that Arielle and Ryle shared?
A fierce longing surged within him.
He wanted to take Arielle away from here, away from Ryle and everyone else.
He wanted a world where it was just the two of them, free from the complications and shadows of the past.
Liam Harper’s voice broke through his turmoil. “Ah, Kyler, glad you could make it.”
Kyler turned to face his uncle, masking his inner turmoil with a calm facade. “Mr. Harper. Quite the event you’ve organized.”
Liam’s smile was all teeth. “Well, it’s an important occasion so ofcourse.”
Kyler nodded.
Liam talked a little more and moved on to charm other guests, Kyler’s focus returned to Arielle.
He watched her, noting the subtle tension in her posture as she spoke with Ryle. It was clear that their conversation was intense, laden with unspoken words and unresolved emotions.
Kyler took a deep breath, steeling himself.
