What did you do to her?

What did you do to her?
Ryle took a step forward, reaching out to her.
ut she recoiled, eyes wide with fear. In an instant, she turned and sprinted outside, her footsteps pounding against the ground as she fled toward the dense forest. The leaves rustled around her, whispering secrets of the shadows..
The familiarity of his blue eyes had ignited a whirlwind of emotions... anger.. relief... confusion...each one battling for dominance as she sprinted into the enveloping darkness of the forest.
The cool night air bit at her skin, and the shadows wrapped around her like a suffocating blanket. She could hear her own breath coming in short gasps, each step pounding against the ground in rhythm with her tumultuous thoughts. How could he be alive?
Four years of mourning, of pain, and suddenly, he was standing right in front of her, alive and breathing.
The anger surged within her, threatening to drown out the relief.
“Why didn’t you come back?” she shouted into the void, her voice echoing off the trees. But there was no answer, just the whispering wind and the rustling leaves. She ran faster, desperate to escape the memories flooding her mind, memories of their time together, of his laughter, the warmth of his embrace, and the agony of his loss.
Kyler watched her disappear into the forest, a sinking feeling of dread gnawing at his gut. He turned back to Ryle, his face a mask of confusion and concern. “What did you do to her?” he demanded, his voice low and tense. Ryle raised his hands defensively, but Kyler wasn’t interested in explanations. He bolted after Arielle, calling her name, but the dense underbrush swallowed his voice.
“Arielle!” he yelled, pushing through the foliage. “Wait!” But she was gone, lost among the trees. Panic gripped him as he fumbled for his phone, dialing her number, but the call dropped into silence, a reminder of the isolation surrounding them. He cursed under his breath, frustration mingling with fear. He needed to find her before she spiraled further into despair.
As he ventured deeper into the forest, shadows danced around him, playing tricks on his mind. Every rustle seemed amplified, every snap of a twig made him jump, his senses heightened with adrenaline. “Arielle!” he shouted again, desperation lacing his voice. The world felt alive and hostile, the branches clawing at him as if trying to hold him back.
He pushed on, heart racing, thoughts of Ryle flickering in the back of his mind like a warning light. What if he was a threat? What if Arielle was in danger? The thought propelled him forward, urgency fueling his every step.
Arielle stumbled over roots and rocks, her legs burning as she ran blindly through the forest. The darkness around her felt suffocating, the shadows whispering her fears back to her. “I thought you were gone,” she choked out, tears streaming down her cheeks. “You left me.”
The pain of betrayal coursed through her, mingling with the remnants of love she still felt for Ryle. She didn’t want to be angry; she wanted to be relieved. But the confusion clouded her thoughts, and she couldn’t shake the feeling of abandonment that had haunted her for years.
Branches whipped against her skin, but she didn’t care. She needed to escape the memories, the emotions that threatened to drown her. She ran until her lungs burned, until her legs felt like lead. Only when the trees began to thin did she finally stop, leaning against a massive oak to catch her breath.
Kyler continued to search, feeling the panic rise within him. He cursed the darkness that hid Arielle from him. “Arielle!” he called again, but the forest swallowed his voice whole. As dawn approached, the first hints of light began to filter through the leaves, casting eerie shadows that danced on the ground.
He slowed, trying to steady his breathing, his mind racing with scenarios. Where could she be? What if she had gone too far? The thought sent a chill down his spine. “Arielle!” he shouted one last time, his voice cracking as he fought against the rising fear.
In the quiet of the forest, Arielle slid down the trunk of the tree, her body collapsing onto the ground as sobs wracked her frame. The relief of letting go felt both liberating and devastating. She buried her face in her hands, tears flowing freely. “Why are you doing this to me?” she cried into the dirt, wishing the earth would swallow her whole.
It was then that she heard footsteps, a familiar sound cutting through her despair. She looked up, squinting against the light that was creeping into the forest. There, emerging from the shadows, was Kyler, his expression a mixture of relief and concern.
“Arielle,” he breathed, rushing toward her. The moment their eyes met, something within her shifted. She wanted to run into his arms, to feel safe again, but the pain of Ryle’s return held her back.
Kyler knelt in front of her, searching her face for signs of hurt. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” he said, his voice low and steady. “Baby, Are you okay?”
