Chapter 19 The Witch Queen’s Obsession
Chapter 19 The Witch Queen’s Obsession
Selene Mortis’ POV
The night was restless.
Cold winds lashed against the towering black spires of the Witch Citadel while thunder rolled across the cursed skies above Noctara. Purple lightning illuminated the enormous palace made of obsidian stone and dark crystal, making it appear even more sinister beneath the moonlight.
Inside the throne room, silence reigned.
A dangerous silence.
The kind that came before destruction.
At the very end of the massive hall sat a woman upon a throne carved from black bones and silver vines. Her long silver-white hair cascaded down the armrest like flowing silk while her crimson robes pooled around her feet like blood.
Queen Selene Mortis.
The Supreme Witch Queen.
The most feared woman in the paranormal world.
And tonight…
She was furious.
Her sharp nails tapped slowly against the armrest as her crimson eyes stared into nothingness.
Below her, dozens of witches stood with their heads lowered in fear.
No one dared breathe loudly in her presence.
Not after what happened three nights ago.
Selene’s jaw tightened.
Three nights.
Three entire nights and they still had no information.
No trace.
No scent.
Nothing.
A dangerous aura exploded from her body suddenly, making the torches around the hall flicker violently.
“I gave you one task,” she said softly.
That soft voice was more terrifying than screaming.
The witches below trembled.
“To find them.”
Silence.
Her lips curled coldly.
“And yet my own council stands before me empty-handed.”
One of the elder witches fell to his knees immediately.
“Your Majesty, we searched every hidden realm, every underground territory and every known portal route—”
“Then search again.”
Her voice cracked like a whip through the throne room.
The old witch flinched violently.
Selene rose slowly from her throne, her heels echoing sharply against the marble floor as she descended the steps.
“She disappeared while carrying sealed celestial magic inside her body,” she whispered. “Do you fools even understand what that means?”
No one answered.
Because everyone knew.
Aurora Rae Jenkins was not supposed to exist.
Selene stopped walking.
Her eyes narrowed dangerously.
“And Evelyn…” she murmured bitterly.
That name alone carried decades of hatred.
Pain.
Jealousy.
Rage.
Selene clenched her fists.
Evelyn had ruined everything.
Years ago she had escaped the Witch Kingdom carrying secrets Selene had spent centuries trying to uncover.
And now her daughter had vanished too.
Just like her.
The air around Selene distorted with dark magic.
“I should have killed her when I had the chance,” she hissed.
Suddenly every mirror inside the throne room shattered simultaneously.
The witches gasped.
Selene inhaled sharply before turning around slowly.
“Leave.”
No one wasted another second.
Within moments the throne room emptied entirely, leaving only silence behind.
And darkness.
Selene stood motionless for several seconds before finally walking toward the hidden chamber behind her throne.
The walls shifted apart instantly at her approach.
Ancient magic.
Forbidden magic.
The room inside was circular and dimly lit with black candles. Strange symbols glowed across the walls while the scent of blood and herbs lingered heavily in the air.
At the center of the chamber stood an enormous mirror covered by a silk cloth.
Selene stopped before it.
For the first time that night…
She looked uncertain.
Not afraid.
Never afraid.
But cautious.
Because the artifact before her was older than kingdoms themselves.
The Mirror of Veritas.
An object capable of showing truths hidden from the world.
But every answer demanded a price.
Selene sliced her palm open without hesitation.
Blood dripped onto the floor.
The runes around the chamber began glowing violently.
Wind exploded around her as the silk cloth covering the mirror slipped down by itself.
The mirror’s surface was pitch black.
Not reflective.
Alive.
A low whisper echoed through the chamber.
“What is it… that you seek…?”
Selene lifted her chin.
“The girl.”
The mirror remained still.
“I seek Aurora Rae Jenkins.”
For several moments nothing happened.
Then suddenly the surface of the mirror rippled like disturbed water.
An image slowly formed.
A girl.
Long dark hair.
Golden skin glowing beneath sunlight.
Silver tears slipping down her cheeks.
Aurora.
Selene’s eyes sharpened instantly.
“There you are…”
The image shifted.
Aurora was crying violently while clutching her stomach.
Pain radiated from her face.
But behind her—
There was light.
Strange golden light.
Selene frowned.
“What is that?”
The mirror whispered again.
“The child of stars awakens…”
Selene’s breath hitched.
Child?
No…
Impossible.
Her eyes widened slowly.
Aurora was pregnant.
A dangerous smile spread across Selene’s lips.
“Well…”
This changed everything.
She stepped closer toward the mirror greedily.
“What is she?”
The mirror darkened again before finally answering.
“The most powerful being shall rise through her blood.”
The chamber fell silent.
Selene stared at the mirror with naked obsession burning in her eyes.
Power.
Unlimited power.
That was all she had ever wanted.
Not love.
Not family.
Not kingdoms.
Power.
Because power meant survival.
And weakness…
Weakness destroyed people.
She had learned that lesson centuries ago.
Her lips parted slowly.
“How do I possess it?”
The mirror trembled violently.
“Blood… bond… celestial union…”
The image shifted again.
This time another face appeared beside Aurora.
A man.
Tall.
Broad shoulders.
Piercing blue eyes burning with fury.
The Alpha King.
Christian Black.
Selene narrowed her eyes immediately.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
“The wolf found her…”
The mirror suddenly cracked loudly.
A deep voice echoed through the chamber.
“The Moon Heir and the Celestial Child shall either destroy the realms… or rule them.”
Selene froze.
Moon Heir?
Christian?
Before she could ask more questions, the mirror went completely black again.
Silence consumed the room.
Selene stared at her own reflection now visible upon the surface.
For the first time in years…
She looked shaken.
Then slowly—
She smiled.
A dark horrifying smile.
“So this is why fate protected you.”
Her fingers brushed lightly over the mirror.
“A hidden child carrying celestial blood…”
She laughed softly.
“Oh Aurora…”
“You have no idea what you are.”
Meanwhile…
Far away in the Dragon Kingdom—
Aurora tossed restlessly in bed.
Sweat coated her skin while pain twisted inside her chest.
Her fingers clenched tightly around the bedsheets.
Suddenly she gasped awake.
Her breathing came out uneven.
Fast.
Painful.
Her entire body felt strange.
Heavy.
As if something was watching her.
The room was dark except for moonlight filtering through the curtains.
Aurora sat up slowly while pressing a hand against her chest.
Why did she feel so suffocated?
Her heart throbbed painfully.
And for some reason…
Fear crawled beneath her skin.
Not her fear.
Someone else’s.
A shiver ran down her spine.
“Christian…” she whispered unconsciously.
The mate bond pulsed sharply inside her chest.
Pain.
Anger.
Obsession.
Loneliness.
She could feel fragments of him again.
Aurora squeezed her eyes shut immediately.
“No…”
Tears welled up in her eyes.
Even now…
Even after leaving him…
Their bond refused to weaken.
Suddenly the candles inside her room flickered violently.
Aurora’s eyes snapped open.
Golden sparks danced around her fingertips.
Her breath hitched.
“What…”
The magic around her pulsed again.
Stronger this time.
The windows burst open instantly as cold wind rushed inside.
Aurora stumbled backward in panic.
Then—
A whisper echoed faintly through the room.
“Run…”
Aurora froze.
Her eyes widened.
That voice…
It wasn’t hers.
And somewhere far away—
Inside the dark chamber—
Selene Mortis opened her eyes slowly.
A satisfied smile curved her lips.
“Yes…”
“I found you.”
