Chapter 15 Pregnant?

Chapter 15 Pregnant?
Aurora’s POV

When I opened my eyes again, everything felt heavy.

Not just my body.

My mind.

My chest.

My heart.

Even breathing felt difficult somehow.

The curtains near the balcony fluttered softly because of the evening wind entering the room, carrying the faint scent of smoke, herbs, and dragon fire. The room was dimly lit with golden lamps attached to the crystal walls, their glow warm and comforting, yet I felt cold from inside.

For a few seconds, I simply stared at the ceiling, trying to remember what had happened.

Then fragments started crashing into me one after another.

Drake grumbling during training.

Nicholas dragging him away.

Me laughing.

Sudden dizziness.

Darkness.

And then—

Pregnant.

My breath hitched.

My hand instinctively moved toward my stomach.

The moment my palm rested there, emotions exploded inside me so violently that tears burned my eyes instantly.

Christian.

A shaky breath escaped my lips.

I squeezed my eyes shut.

I was carrying Christian’s child.

My mate’s child.

A child born from love… and pain.

I did not know whether to cry harder or smile at the thought.

The door opened softly before I could stop my spiraling thoughts.

Fiona walked inside carrying a tray in her hands. Warm herbal steam rose from the cup placed on it, and the moment her eyes landed on me, her expression softened immediately.

“Oh thank the heavens,” she sighed and quickly walked toward me. “You scared us all.”

I tried sitting up slowly, but dizziness hit me again. Fiona immediately supported my back and helped me settle against the pillows.

“How long was I unconscious?” I asked weakly.

“Almost a whole day.”

My eyes widened slightly.

“A day?”

Fiona nodded before brushing my hair away from my face gently. “You exhausted your body too much. The training, emotional stress, unstable powers, the mate bond…” She paused for a second before adding softly, “And now the child.”

Child.

The word still felt unreal.

I looked down at my lap quietly while Fiona handed me the cup.

“Drink this first.”

I obeyed silently. The liquid tasted bitter and warm, yet strangely calming. For a while neither of us spoke.

The silence itself felt strange.

Heavy.

Too careful.

As if everyone was hiding something from me.

“Where is Drake?” I finally asked.

Fiona sighed, almost amused. “Sulking.”

Despite everything, a tiny smile tugged at my lips.

“And Nicholas?”

That smile disappeared instantly from Fiona’s face.

“He is in the study.”

Something in her tone made my stomach tighten.

“What happened?” I whispered.

Fiona looked at me for a long moment before sitting beside me properly.

“Aurora…” she began softly, “your pregnancy complicates things.”

I frowned slightly.

Complicates?

“It’s just a baby,” I whispered instinctively, immediately placing my hand protectively over my stomach again.

Fiona’s eyes softened painfully at my reaction.

“No, sweetheart,” she murmured. “This child is not just a baby.”

Fear crawled slowly up my spine.

Before I could ask anything further, the door opened again.

Nicholas entered.

And immediately the whole atmosphere in the room shifted.

He looked exhausted.

His sharp eyes held frustration, stress, and something else I had never seen in him before.

Fear.

Behind him stood Drake, leaning lazily against the wall, though even he looked unusually serious.

Nicholas crossed his arms and stared at me for a long moment before speaking.

“How are you feeling?”

“Confused,” I answered honestly. “Can someone finally explain what is going on?”

A tense silence followed.

Nicholas started pacing near the balcony.

That alone told me things were bad.

Very bad.

“You should not have gotten pregnant this early,” he muttered under his breath.

My eyebrows furrowed instantly.

“This early?”

He ignored my question completely and continued pacing.

“The mate bond strengthened faster than expected… her powers are still unstable… the timing is wrong…”

“Nick,” Fiona warned softly.

“No, Fiona. She deserves to know the severity of this situation.”

I felt irritation rising inside me.

“Then tell me clearly!” I snapped suddenly. “Stop talking around me as if I am not even here!”

Nicholas stopped moving.

The room fell silent.

Drake straightened slightly near the wall while Fiona looked worried.

I swallowed hard and continued, my voice trembling now.

“This is my child. Mine. I deserve to know why everyone is acting as if something terrible happened.”

Nicholas stared at me for several seconds before exhaling heavily.

“You are carrying a child born from two extremely powerful bloodlines,” he said slowly. “Do you understand how dangerous that is?”

I blinked at him in confusion.

“Christian is the Alpha King,” he continued. “And you…” He stopped abruptly.

“And me?” I pushed immediately.

His jaw tightened.

Fiona looked away.

Drake rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

That reaction alone made my heartbeat speed up.

Nicholas resumed speaking carefully. “Your body itself is unusual, Aurora. Even among dragons.”

Dragons.

Not witches.

Dragons.

I noticed it.

Another thing they were refusing to explain fully.

“What does that even mean?” I whispered.

Nicholas ignored that question too, which frustrated me further.

“Werewolves carry pups for only four months,” he said instead. “Their healing abilities and wolf blood accelerate development rapidly.”

I listened quietly.

“But dragons…” His expression darkened slightly. “Dragon pregnancies last around ten months.”

My eyes widened.

“And hybrids…” he murmured almost to himself before stopping abruptly.

Silence.

Cold, terrifying silence.

A strange feeling settled inside my chest.

“What about hybrids?” I asked quietly.

Nicholas immediately looked at me.

“You are not prepared for those answers yet.”

Anger surged through me instantly.

“That’s all you ever say!” I shouted. “Not prepared. Not now. Later. Stop treating me like a child!”

“Aurora—”

“No!” I snapped, tears burning my eyes now. “Everyone keeps hiding things from me! My mother hid things. You hide things. My whole life feels like one giant secret!”

My breathing became uneven.

The room suddenly felt suffocating.

“I lost Christian,” I whispered brokenly. “I lost my mate… and now all of you are acting as if my child is some kind of disaster waiting to happen.”

“No one is calling your child a disaster,” Fiona said immediately.

“Then why does everyone look terrified?” I asked weakly.

No one answered.

That hurt more.

I looked away quickly before tears could fall again.

The silence stretched painfully until Drake suddenly pushed himself off the wall.

“Well,” he announced dramatically, “on the positive side, if the kid inherits your anger and Christian’s strength, we are all doomed.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

Fiona looked horrified.

Nicholas pinched the bridge of his nose.

And somehow… despite everything…

A laugh escaped me.

A small broken laugh mixed with tears.

Drake grinned proudly. “There she is.”

“You’re stupid,” I muttered while wiping my face.

“Very much so.”

Nicholas glared at him. “This is not the time for jokes.”

“It is exactly the time for jokes,” Drake argued immediately. “Everyone in this room looks like they’re attending a funeral.” He looked around dramatically before throwing his hands in the air. “Yes, it’s too soon. Yes, we don’t fully know what’s going on with her yet. But it’s still good news, isn’t it?”

The room fell quieter.

Drake walked toward the bed and sat beside me carefully.

“A new member is coming into our family,” he said more softly this time. “Shouldn’t a pregnancy feel lively? Happy? Instead all of you are acting as if the world is ending.”

Nobody spoke for a moment.

Then Fiona sighed softly, her tense shoulders relaxing slightly.

Nicholas closed his eyes briefly before exhaling heavily, some of the stiffness finally leaving his posture.

And just like that—

the suffocating tension in the room eased a little.

Only a little.

But enough for me to breathe again.

Drake leaned closer toward me and whispered dramatically, “See? I saved the atmosphere.”

I rolled my eyes. “You really think too highly of yourself.”

“As I should.”

Despite everything, another small smile escaped me.

Drake’s expression softened then.

“You’re not alone, Rora,” he said quietly. “Whatever happens… we are with you.”

That nearly made me cry again.

So instead I looked away quickly and nodded silently.
