Chapter 211 Blessings and Misfortunes Depend on Each Other

Their eyes constantly scanned the surroundings, weapons at the ready.

The secret chamber was silent, except for George's footsteps and their own heartbeats, adding to the already mysterious atmosphere.

They weren't worried about George; he was clever and wouldn't get into trouble.

After a while, George came running back, barking at Mary and Thomas as if reporting his findings.

Mary knelt down, gently stroking George's head. "George, did you find anything?"

George shook his head, then ran off in another direction, signaling them to follow.

Thomas and Mary exchanged a curious and expectant glance, cautiously following George deeper into the chamber.

The enticing aroma grew stronger as they ventured further.

Following George's lead, they carefully made their way deeper into the cave, each step filled with caution and anticipation.

When they finally entered the mysterious area, their eyes widened in shock at the sight before them.

The stone walls were covered in lush vines, like green ribbons winding their way across the rough surface.

Hanging among the vines were striking fruits.

These fruits were the size of regular apples, round and plump, with a mysterious deep purple skin.

Under the light of Thomas's torch, they seemed to emit a faint glow.

Enveloped in a mystical purple hue, they exuded an irresistible allure.

Thomas recognized them immediately, quickly pulling out the drawing Sita had given him and comparing it closely.

His eyes locked onto the fruits, not missing a single detail, his hand trembling slightly with excitement.

After a moment, a joyful smile spread across his face. "This must be the Deer Fruit! I can't believe we found it so easily!"

Mary leaned in to look at the fruit, nodding slightly in agreement.

She murmured, "If only we had a silver needle to test if they're safe to eat."

"Who knows if these cave fruits are poisonous? It'd be a disaster if we ate them and something went wrong."

Thomas frowned, deep in thought. He wanted to eat one right away but was worried about potential dangers. There was no way to test for poison here.

After a while, his eyes lit up. "We can take these fruits back to Sita for identification."

"If these really are Deer Fruits, it would be great for all of us."

"We could share them and maybe even boost our strength to face the upcoming dangers."

Mary nodded, a relieved smile on her face. "At least we've found something potentially useful. That's part of our mission accomplished."

She knelt down, gently petting George's head. "George, can you get some of these fruits down? Be careful not to drop them."

George understood, his clever eyes blinking as he quickly got to work.

He nimbly climbed the vines, his small body moving effortlessly among them.

Using his little paws, he carefully picked the fruits and placed them gently into the bag Mary had prepared. Thomas also helped gather some.

In just a few minutes, George had successfully picked over a dozen fruits, impressing both of them with his efficiency. Monkeys were indeed great climbers.

Mary looked at the bag of fruits, her eyes filled with joy and anticipation, almost wanting to eat one right then and there.

She couldn't help but swallow. "These fruits look so tempting. If they're edible, they must taste amazing."

Thomas chuckled. Mary was always a foodie.

Despite her desire to eat, Mary knew it wasn't the time to relax. They needed to leave and get to safety.

As they packed up and prepared to leave the cave, a faint rustling sound came from outside.

In the silent cave, the sound was eerily clear, sending chills down their spines.

Thomas and Mary instantly became alert, gripping their weapons tightly, eyes filled with vigilance as they moved toward the cave entrance.

Mary whispered, "I have a bad feeling about this."

Thomas felt the same but remained calm, knowing he was the only man here.

As the sound grew closer, their hearts pounded in their chests.

Suddenly, a giant snake appeared, blocking their path.

The snake's body was as thick as a barrel, covered in iridescent scales that shimmered ominously in the torchlight.

Its head was triangular, with cold, slit-pupiled eyes radiating malice, and it flicked its long tongue menacingly.

The sound it made seemed like a warning.

Thomas and Mary's faces turned pale. They had never seen such a huge and terrifying snake.

But they knew fear was useless now; they had to find a way to deal with it.

Thomas took a deep breath, whispering to Mary, "Don't be scared. Let's move carefully and see if we can find a way around it."

Mary nodded slightly, gripping her axe tighter, her palms sweaty but her gaze steady.

She felt incredibly unlucky, having just encountered a corpse and now facing this terrifying snake.

George sensed the danger too, quickly running to Mary's side.

His fur stood on end, sharp little claws out, growling low at the snake, trying to protect his owner.

The snake seemed provoked by George's challenge, raising its head and coiling its body, ready to strike.

Thomas shouted, "Mary, watch out!"

He quickly pulled out his crossbow, aiming at the snake's head.

As the snake prepared to attack, Thomas fired an arrow.

The arrow whistled through the air like a black lightning bolt toward the snake's head.

Thomas watched with intense focus, hoping the arrow would hit its mark and neutralize the threat.

But the snake displayed incredible agility, dodging the arrow with a slight head movement.

The arrow struck the stone wall with a loud thud, embedding deeply and sending stone chips flying.

Thomas felt a chill run down his spine. This snake was not only huge but also incredibly quick. How could they fight it?

Mary saw Thomas's attack fail, her heart pounding even harder.

But she knew retreating was pointless; fear would only make them weaker.

She steeled herself, gripping her axe with both hands, raising it high, and shouted at the snake, "Come on, you ugly monster!"
