Chapter 208: Thomas's Decision
Chapter 208: Thomas's Decision
She knew Thomas was right. They had won this time, but who knew what other enemies might come in the future?
Defeating the previous five had already drained a lot of their strength. If more members of the Deer Tribe came, what could they do?
At the same time, she was shocked by Thomas's plan. He wanted to go to the Deer Tribe alone? That was a death wish!
She stood up anxiously, gripping Thomas's arm tightly.
Her voice trembled as she said, "Are you nuts? Those guys are insanely strong. How can you go alone? That's suicide!"
"If you're going, then I'm coming with you. I can't let you take this risk alone. I know it's dangerous, but I'm not scared, as long as we're together."
Thomas sighed, "Amanda, why put yourself through this?"
"I'll face anything. Even if it's hell, I'll go with you." Amanda's eyes were filled with unwavering determination.
Thomas gently shook his head, his eyes showing a mix of tenderness and resolve.
He softly held Amanda's hand and said, "Amanda, I know you're worried about me, but I'm just going to gather information. If we go in a group, we'll be too obvious and more likely to get caught. It would be even more dangerous."
"We can't just sit here and wait for doom. We have to take action to find a way out of future crises."
"You need to stay here and take care of everyone. That's your responsibility. I'll be careful and come back safely."
But Amanda was still worried. The Deer Tribe's members were all formidable. She couldn't believe Thomas would be safe going alone.
Mary frowned, also thinking Thomas's plan was reckless, almost suicidal.
After a moment of thought, she said, "Thomas, how about I go with you? George and I can help."
"George may be small, but he's very clever. He can be useful in critical moments. We can watch each other's backs."
"Maybe we can complete the mission better and increase our safety."
Thomas looked at Mary and then at George on her shoulder. George waved his tiny fists, as if signaling his willingness to help.
Thomas considered it. Having someone to watch his back could indeed provide extra security, and they could help each other on the way.
Moreover, Mary's wit and George's agility might prove invaluable at crucial times. So he nodded and agreed, "Alright, we'll leave the day after tomorrow!"
Night fell quickly, and the cave was filled with the aroma of food.
Amanda and Mary were busy preparing dinner by the campfire, knowing that Thomas and Mary would leave for the Deer Tribe in a couple of days.
This meal might be their last gathering before the departure, making it especially precious.
Amanda stirred the lamb in the pot while advising Mary, "Mary, you must take care of yourself and Thomas on this trip. Come back safely."
"I know it's dangerous, but I trust your abilities. Thomas can be impulsive sometimes. You need to remind him not to take unnecessary risks."
Mary paused her chopping and smiled, "Don't worry, Amanda. We'll be back in a few days. It's just a reconnaissance mission. You don't need to worry so much."
"We'll be careful and come back to inform everyone if anything happens."
Amanda's eyes glistened with tears as she said, "I'm telling you, if you don't come back with him in ten days, I'll come looking for you."
"I don't care how dangerous it is. I can't lose him, and I can't lose you as a friend."
"You two are the most important people in my life. I won't just sit and do nothing."
Her eyes showed unwavering determination. She had made up her mind. If they didn't return, she would go find them, no matter what.
Mary felt a warmth in her heart seeing Amanda's seriousness. She no longer had any resentment towards Amanda, only reliance. Their bond was strong.
She nodded firmly, "I'll do my best to protect Thomas and myself. We'll come back safely."
"Don't worry. We'll complete the mission quickly and reunite with everyone."
With their efforts, a sumptuous dinner was finally ready.
The stone table was filled with delicious dishes. The steaming lamb stew emitted a rich aroma.
The roasted lamb ribs were golden and crispy, sizzling with oil. The tempting color made everyone's mouth water.
Fresh fruits picked from nearby added a refreshing touch to the meal, their vibrant colors and fragrant scent enhancing the atmosphere. There were also freshly grilled fish, with crispy skin and tender, juicy meat, seasoned with homemade spices, making them irresistible.
Everyone sat around the table, but the atmosphere was heavy. Amanda picked up a wooden fork and silently gave Thomas the largest lamb rib, softly saying, "Thomas, eat more. Be careful on this mission."
"Remember, we're all waiting for you to come back."
Then she gave Mary a generous portion of vegetables, concerned, "Mary, don't just eat meat. Have some vegetables to keep your strength up."
"This mission won't be easy. You need to stay alert."
Mary nodded, understanding Amanda's concern. She would take care of Thomas and ensure nothing happened to him.
Amanda also tore off a small piece of fish and fed it to George, gently stroking his head.
She said, "George, it's up to you to protect them this time. Be smart and keep them safe."
George seemed to understand Amanda's words. It nuzzled her hand affectionately before eating the fish with relish, occasionally making satisfied sounds that brought smiles to everyone's faces, easing the tension a bit.
Thomas watched Amanda bustling around for everyone, feeling deeply moved and reluctant. He didn't want to leave, but he had no choice. He needed to know their enemy.
He picked up a bowl, filled it with lamb stew, and handed it to Amanda, "Amanda, don't just worry about us. You need to eat too."
"While we're gone, take care of yourself and everyone else. If there's any danger, protect yourself first. Don't be reckless."
Mary chimed in, "Yes, Amanda. We'll be back soon. Don't worry, we'll be safe."
"You have to wait for us to come back!"
Anna and Helen sat quietly, watching everything with teary eyes.
Anna softly said, "Thomas, be careful. We'll be here waiting for you. You're our hope. Come back safely."
Her tone was cold, but there was a hint of reluctance. She wasn't as obsessive as before.
Helen nodded, "This mission is dangerous, but I believe you can complete it and return safely."
"We'll pray for you. May everything go smoothly."
Everyone ate dinner in silence. Though they had much to say, at this moment, it all turned into blessings and concern for each other.
