Sixty.
The sun had disappeared altogether now, and the camera had been placed carefully back in its box for safety. Both Colt and Calum's stomachs were perfectly bloated with food, and Calum had even remembered to bring Colt her her raspberry tea in a silver flask, as well as the champagne and malt whisky he had packed. All of which was now tucked up in the tent waiting safely. The rest of their leftovers were neatly tidied away and back in the wicker basket, in the argo.
Currently, Colt was happily snuggled against her mate in the tent, thoroughly enjoying being the little spoon, with Calum's body heat wrapped around her. All the effort Calum had went to had blown her away, and now she was contentedly purring away as Calum traced lazy circles on her arm, lulling her gently to sleep.
She rolled over to face him, snuggling deeper into him as her eyelids became traitorously heavy, and she decided to give in to the demands of her sleep craving body.
"You wouldn't be trying to fall asleep on me now, Love. Would you?" Calum smirked, as his hand stilled on her shoulder.
Colt only groaned in an attempt to object, as Calum started jostling her lightly around, trying to rouse her. Her purring ceased and was quickly replaced with small growls of discontent.
"Woman, don't you dare fall asleep on me!" Calum playfully told her off, prodding her in an annoying manner, to keep her awake.
"I'm not," Colt responded in a groggy voice, "I am going to sleep beside you, silly. Now stop poking me!"
"You bloody well are not!" He scoffed in response, moving in such a way it caused Colt to flop onto her back.
"And why not?" She demanded to know annoyed, "I'm full, comfy, you are wonderfully warm. Plus you smell so good!" She explained, "Unless there is something better for me to do?" She asked provocatively, with a lazy smile.
"Damn it, you're a bloody minx!" Calum smirked, "And I love you."
"Hmmm, you like me being a minx, don't pretend otherwise, Casanova," Colt smirked in triumph, "And I love you too." She added, trying in vain to snuggle back into her warm spot.
"No. You are not going to sleep, or we will miss it." Calum stated with finality.
"Miss what exactly?" Colt enquired slyly.
"Smooth, but I'm still not falling for that," Calum smirked, eyeing her mouth with a new hunger when she flopped onto her back again.
"Stop teasing me," Colt pouted with a frown, frustrated at being out of the loop.
"Fine," Calum stated, before swooping in to steal a heated kiss.
Colt's hand came up and around Calum's neck to lock him in place against her, while her spare hand began to tug at his ghillie shirt pulling it upwards and out of his kilt. As soon as enough of it was free she slid her hand across the tight skin of his abdominal muscles, savouring the way Calum's breathing hitched, as her hand explored each dip and groove of his stomach.
Calum's only free hand made swift work of sliding up the skirt of her dress, teasing each inch of skin he could find with the lightest of caresses. He was making his mate moan in frustration as he slowly proceeded, pulling back from where she wanted him, each time she thought he was getting closer.
Colt's breathing was getting heavier with every stroke of Calum's tongue, her legs instinctively parting as she pulled him closer on top of her.
Calum was on cloud nine, he couldn't get over how Colt responded to his touch. It was like her body was set alight, every nerve ending on fire when they were together. To be honest, he was no better. No matter how close, it was never close enough for him. She set his world on fire in every way, and he had to work hard to make sure he himself stayed grounded and didn't get carried away. When he pulled back, Colt let out a whimper of upset, and looked up at him with large doe eyes, that quickly hardened.
"That is not what I meant, and you know it, you cruel Asshole," she scolded him, when she realised he had no intention of finishing what he started.
"Yeah, but I bet you're awake now," Calum scoffed, allowing himself to flop onto his back when Colt whacked him with a cushion in retaliation.
"Screw you!" Colt huffed petulantly before getting up to leave the tent.
She had made it a whole ten feet away, before Calum's arms were around her waist pulling her against him and halting her escape.
"And where do you think you're going, Love?" Calum asked, utterly amused by Colt's ridiculous behaviour.
"To cool off," she stated, hating the way she automatically melted into his embrace, damning the mate bond.
"That's a shame," he consoled her, nibbling lightly on her neck till he felt her body shiver in delight, "Because your surprise is here now." Calum smirked behind her.
"Oh, is it now?" She asked, looking down the track. "I don't understand..." She stated when she didn't see anything.
Calum brought his hand up to Colt's chin, and raised her head, enjoying it when she was resting against him completely, "Look up," he said smiling happily.
Colt shivered slightly in the cooling night air as she looked to the sky. She was expecting the vast blanket of stars, and the crystalline view of the milkyway, that became present about ninety minutes after the sun had set. But what captured her attention instead, was a thin line; it had a green hue, that was shifting towards pink, then flickering back to green again. Before her eyes, the line grew, spreading into long curtains which shrouded the night sky in the most spectacular light show she had ever seen. The entire sky had become a stage for the aurora borealis, coloured lights dancing and twirling above the world, illuminating the sky once more. The light was then bouncing off the water surrounding the peninsula they were stood on, reflecting the light back upwards to the sky and surrounding the world like some mystical spell was being cast. Even the couple stood on the top of the hill were encapsulated in shimmering multicolored lights, Colt herself looking skyward in amazement.
"Oh Calum!" Colt whispered in awe, before she stepped forwards like it would take her closer to the lights. She was eyeing the sky in complete wonderment. "It's... I mean, wow. It's the Aurora right? But how did you know it would be out?"
"I have a website short-cutted to my mobile home screen. When... when I seen it would be out t, tonight, I knew where I had to take y, y, you," Calum's voice wavered and stuttered, drawing Colt's attention, especially as he seemed to be lower than usual.
She turned to find out why he was low down and instantly froze, the display in the heavens swiftly and completely forgotten. Calum was down on one knee, with a small wooden box clutched in his shaking hands. Tears sprung to her eyes as he began to speak.
"Colt Merrier, would you be my honour," he stopped cursing, "Shit, no I mean, will you marry life me be happy man?" He blurted out in panic, feeling like his tongue had swollen up to three times the size, while simultaneously his mouth went drier than the Sahara desert. He had it all worked out, he was going to tell her how much she meant to him, and how much he loved her; that she was the new sun his world had shifted to orient around, then he would ask her to 'do him the honour of becoming his wife, and making him the happiest man on earth,' none of which he had actually said.
Calum's body sagged in defeat, his shoulders curling around as he shrunk, he felt like an idiot. A nervous, bumbling idiot, staring at the ground in disbelief of how he had messed everything up. So, it caught him by suprise when Colt's face came into his line of sight, a look of pure adoration shining in her tear filled eyes. He raised his head up, guided by her gentle but trembling hands.
"Yes," she whispered, when his questioning glance searched her face.
The words shot straight into his heart, stunning him completely. He briefly considered he was dreaming, asleep beside her in the tent, unsure on whether or not he wished to wake up.
"Yes?" He asked eventually, confused and not willing to believe she had agreed.
"Yes. I would be honoured to marry you, Calum," she smiled, the colourful skies reflecting in her tear filled eyes.
"Really?" He asked again, hating how vulnerable he felt, while one hand clung to her arm like a lifeline.
"Really, really," Colt nodded in affirmation.
Calum pulled back from her face, reaching for her left hand, and with his other he placed the box on the ground and plucked out the ring. He slipped it effortlessly onto Colt's left ring finger without hesitation, despite his sweaty hands, and an inner dread he would drop it into the heather, never to be seen again.
"Is that my grandmoth..." Colt began to ask smiling, but she was caught off guard and ended up squealing instead, when Calum abruptly stood, taking her with him and spinning her around in the air above himself.
He bellowed out a strange guttural roar, clearly a human noise meant to celebrate his success. It made Colt laugh as his relief and joy hit her full force across their bond; and she wasn't completely aware of where her happiness ended and his began, but the conjoined sensation felt immense. Their bond was sparkling like a never ending firework, their happiness fizzing and bouncing around every part of them with no end in sight.
"I love you," Calum stated, as he slowed his spinning to a stop. Then he lowered his fiancée down against him from her rag doll position above his head, crushing her to his body, as his chest began to vibrate with purrs so loud, Colt could feel them in her bones.
She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him as close as possible, without hesitation.
"I love you too," she smiled, melting against him completely. "So, so very much," She added, unsure if the ache in her cheeks from smiling would ever fade.
