Seraphina was taken aback. Where did things go wrong?
Suddenly, Cecilia's phone rang with a specific ringtone, but she didn't pick it up.
Seraphina nudged her, thinking she didn't know how to explain to Dominic.
Cecilia squinted, trying to keep her cool before calmly answering, "Dominic."
"Did you have fun today?" Dominic's warm voice came through the line.
Cecilia let out a sarcastic laugh. She had come to Lumina Mountain to wish him luck for the upcoming Forbes Celebrity Awards, hoping he'd sweep the awards.
Cecilia, once upon a time, had forgotten she had the power to stand at the top.
"Not bad," Cecilia said flatly. "I prayed for your career."
"Didn't you also pray for us to have kids soon?" he joked.
She had foolishly prayed for that too, but in her previous life, she found out on her deathbed that she hadn't conceived in ten years because Dominic had been slipping contraceptives into her food. She had endured countless grievances and humiliations because of it.
"Are you tired?" Dominic asked, sounding concerned when she didn't reply right away.
"A bit. I'm driving back now."
"Sorry I couldn't be with you today. Something came up last minute," he said, sounding genuinely apologetic.
She used to believe he was really busy. But he was just busy... with other women.
"Drive safely," Dominic reminded her.
Cecilia hung up the phone without another word.
Seraphina watched from the sidelines, feeling like Cecilia was becoming a stranger.
They arrived at the Everhart family villa.
Cecilia suddenly called out to Seraphina. Looking at her, Cecilia just wanted to make sure they were both still alive.
But Seraphina felt a bit creeped out by Cecilia's gaze. "Are you okay today?"
Seraphina was still the same innocent and lovely woman. Thankfully, the future hadn't happened to her yet.
Cecilia smiled genuinely. This was her first real smile since her rebirth.
Seraphina had jumped from the 28th floor, a gruesome sight that became an indelible shadow and pain in Cecilia's previous life.
She felt fortunate. She was back in the present, where nothing had happened yet, and she could take her revenge!
Cecilia steadied her emotions. "Don't tell anyone about my agreement with Alaric."
Seraphina nodded, thinking Cecilia would be back to normal tomorrow.
Cecilia drove back to the Lockhart Mansion from ten years ago.
Her emotions were uncontrollable. Seeing her parents, her eyes welled up with tears.
In her previous life, her parents had shielded her with their bodies in a premeditated car accident, allowing her to survive.
"Cecilia, you're back," her mother, Genevieve Lockhart, said gently.
Cecilia suppressed her tears and walked over to them.
From now on, she would destroy Dominic, ruin the Kingsley family, and protect everything in the Lockhart family!
Genevieve noticed something unusual about Cecilia and looked at her with concern.
"The Kingsley family just called. They want to discuss the details of your wedding..." Genevieve said.
Cecilia took a deep breath. "Mom, I want to break off the engagement with Dominic."
"What?" Genevieve was shocked.
Cecilia's father, Theodore Lockhart, who was sitting on the sofa, asked, "Did you have a fight with Dominic?"
"Dominic is not a good person. He wants to marry me just to take over the Lockhart family assets and use our family as a stepping stone to the noble family," Cecilia said, knowing her parents wouldn't buy it. "I can't prove it now, but time will prove everything!"
Theodore and Genevieve knew Cecilia was a strong-willed girl.
'Why was she suddenly saying this?' They were puzzled.
"Dad, I've never done anything to make things difficult for you. I know that the marriage between the Lockhart and Kingsley families is beneficial for us. But I still insist on breaking off the engagement."
"Of course, I believe you," Theodore said, trying to go along with her. "But breaking off the engagement now will bring a lot of negative impact on our family."
"It won't," Cecilia said firmly. "I will make the Kingsley family bear all the consequences!"
Theodore was shocked, taken aback by Cecilia's determination.
Cecilia was resolute. "At next month's wedding, the only ones embarrassed will be the Kingsley family!"
