CHAPTER NINETY SIX

CHAPTER NINETY SIX
Luther.

I couldn’t say I was surprised by Odessa’s words from the last conversation. And as much as I tried not to think about it I could not help or stop myself from doing that and it was disrupting my work.

It had been days since this conversation and it kept replaying in my head. I always had my suspicions that Esau was the father but now I was certain. Anger flooded my mind as I tried to calculate how long our return was to know the exact time when it happened. Was it when she was being whipped and punished? Clearly except that sort of pain turns her on sexually I doubt she would have found time to sleep around and besides it wasn’t until recently that she was introduced to farm work.

My head ached the more I thought about it. I rubbed my face with my hand and got up. I took in a deep breath and reminded myself that the work I had to do was even more important than Delora being pregnant.

I walked towards the door and ushered the guard standing outside to come in.

“My king” he said kneeling.

“Fetch me, Otto. Tell him to come immediately” I said and dismissed him.

I took out the report I got from the doctors and guards and went through it again. The death file was definitely not adding up. But since Otto was the most trusted person in the castle and he was present during everything.

Stanley was already on a different assignment wig gathering information for me. As much as I needed information on the things that went on inside the castle I also needed to know what the people of the kingdom thought. Sometimes the truth is always hidden in rumors.

“You sent for me” Otto said entering my study. I didn’t have to show him to the chair as he made his way there.

“How can I be of service” he asked and I stretched the file towards him which he collected reluctantly.

“This is your father's file. What is going on? Why do you have his death file?” He asked after going through the content of the file.

“Well from that file you can see that the cause of my father's death is not adding up”

“Why are you bringing it up? Surely he won’t rise up from the dead even if you find what it is you seek” he said and I nodded. I had to agree he was right but this was much more than him coming back to life.

“I want you to tell me everything that happened while I was away in the north up until his death. Were there any visitors in the castle?”

“There were a lot of visitors. He was king and he was sick but still had to tend to the matters of the kingdom from his bed, what exactly are you asking?” He said dropping the file back on the table.

“I am asking if someone did anything to him. Because it says here that he was sick and the sickness that wasn’t supposed to kill him for a while did in no time” I said watching him.

I don’t know what I was looking for but I wanted to understand what happened.

“I don’t know but I was his right hand and was dealing with the things of the kingdom for him. I wasn't paying the utmost attention towards him but I assure you nobody would have been able to get to him except through me. He was heavily guarded day and night, his food was always made fresh and tasted before served to him so nobody could have tried anything stupid or be stupid”

“Same thing the guards said but it still does not add up. Especially with what happened with my brothers as well. Something triggered their anger and I still don’t know what it is. My father already made it clear who he had intentions of giving the throne to and they were all fine with it until they were not”

“We wolves change our minds too. We are individuals with different thoughts. It’s normal for one of them to have hated the idea and rebelled. You did what you had to do in winning the battle and your father's death as much as it sounds like something odd happened I assure you it didn’t”

“Okay” I said stretching my legs under the table and leaning back on the chair with my fingers under my chin.

“Is that all?” He asked and I shook my head.

“No. But just because you don’t suspect anything doesn’t mean I don’t. And for one, I know that something happened and I would find out”

“And how do you plan on doing that?” He asked raising his brows and I smiled.

“I know not how but I shall find a way. I always do” I responded and he nodded rising to his feet.

“Well, if there is anything you need me to do or if you need my help in any way let me know. If you think something did happen then we shall figure this out together” he said and I nodded feeling appreciative for the extra help.

“Thanks a lot, Otto. I knew I could count on you” I said and he nodded then walked away.

It was back to being only me. Sighing I picked up the file again and read the information again. Everything the guards said all tallied with Otto's story. But if nobody had been able to get close to my father then what happened? I hope it was not a situation like that of Wesley where the man who was supposed to take care of me tried to kill me.

If that was the case I should have had all the guards and maids killed but that could not have been possible. Sighing I rubbed my face. I needed more information to work with. But right now I had none. I was to wait for whatever information Stanley would bring to me. I hoped it would be nothing but something worthy.
