In the middle of the night, Jane Gardner, always a light sleeper, heard a collapse beside her bed.
Following that, the sound of rustling undress came to her ears.
The familiar scene, the familiar sound of breathing.
Without opening her eyes, Jane Gardner could identify the visitor as Zachary Irwin.
The husband she had been married to for three years but had seen only ten times.
She was thinking about how many times he had come here in the past three years when the covers were lifted off her body.
"You, how come you're back ..."
Thinking about what was going to happen next, Jane Gardner could not care less about pretending to be asleep and grabbed Zachary Irwin's hand in fear.
In the moonlight, her thin, delicate face, her light eyelashes fluttered slightly, and her eyes filled with pleading.
For three years, Zachary Irwin had come over with one purpose in mind, to fulfill his conjugal obligations.
But he didn't know that conjugal obligations without any affection would only make her more afraid of the matter.
"Why am I back? Heh, Jane Gardner, weren't you the one who ran off to tell Grandma that I wasn't coming home and couldn't get you pregnant with THE Irwin family's great-grandson?" The sneer in her voice carried a boundless coldness.
When Zachary Irwin finished, he saw Jane Gardner's silence and, thinking she was acquiescing, he leaned toward her with his head down.
Jane Gardner smiled bitterly as her resistance stopped in mid-air when she heard his last words.
Yes, how could she have forgotten.
Spousal obligations, conceiving a child, was the reason her name stood in the spouse column of his account book.
More than that, it was the only reason she could get close to him.
Otherwise, how could a girl from an ordinary family like hers be with this man who was as tall as a star?
The next day.
When Jane Gardner woke up, the bed was empty.
To be precise, after each incident, Zachary Irwin does not stay a minute longer, showered and left Maravilla directly.
It's a habit, but for some reason, Jane Gardner felt especially sad today.
It was probably because it was her birthday, a birthday where no one would send her well-wishes.
As usual, she washed up and then went downstairs to have breakfast and watch the morning news.
She was drinking black bean milk when Zachary Irwin's name came on the news.
Jane Gardner reflexively looked at the screen and saw a report that Zachary Irwin had been in and out of a hotel with a popular model late at night.
Staring at the time displayed on the screen, Jane Gardner dropped the folic acid tablets in her other hand on the table.
The corner of her mouth, gently hooked up a strong self-deprecation.
It turned out that Zachary Irwin had gone away from himself last night and then sought out the model for some warmth.
In Dragon City, Zachary Irwin, the Irwin, is a symbol of power and wealth.
The Irwin is a symbol of power and wealth. Whether it's the common people or the rich and famous, as long as they hear about the Irwin, no one will look higher.
These years, those models and stars are a crop of one after another to Zachary Irwin rely on.
Because, even if they don't get Zachary Irwin's love, as long as they have something to do with him, they can still occupy half of the headlines, so why not do it?
"Young lady, the old lady is calling. ..."
Nanny Finn handed the landline phone to Jane Gardner, and she took a long time to react to answer it.
"Grandma ..."
Trying to sound as normal as possible, Jane Gardner deliberately wore a relaxed laughing tone.
"Did Zachary spend the night at your place last night?"
Ottilia Amos is seventy-three years old, but her voice is strong and resonant.
Through the phone, Jane Gardner could feel a powerful aura crushing her to death.
She had never dared to breathe a word in front of Ottilia Amos.
"Yes."
Knowing that Ottilia Amos did not like her kind of girl, Jane Gardner also tried to change her personality to make her like her.
But it may be true that she was born with a personality, and no matter how much she transformed herself, she could never please her.
So in her third year of marriage, she too gave up on changing herself and just retreated to Maravilla, appearing as little as possible in front of Ottilia Amos.
"Are you taking black beans and soy milk and folic acid tablets every day?" Ottilia Amos then asked again.
Every time she calls, she always mentions this question.
Although it had been three years, she hadn't conceived a single child, but she had been taking the things to prepare for pregnancy for three whole years.
"I'm taking it, don't worry, Grandma."
Regarding pregnancy, Jane Gardner was also helpless. She bought a pregnancy test every time Zachary Irwin came, but in all the years, there were never two bars.
"What the news says is one-sided and not true. You and Zachary are a couple, and couples should trust each other. You tell Nanny Finn to put the house away and starting today, Zachary will be moving in with you."
Ottilia Amos got to the point of the call and hung up without giving Jane Gardner a chance to speak.
Listening to the busy tone on the other end of the line, Jane Gardner looked at the news on the screen and suddenly understood why she had done what she had done.
If she had known in the past that Zachary Irwin would move in with her, she would have jumped up and down with joy.
But now ...
As long as Zachary Irwin didn't get sick of himself, she was satisfied.
Jane Gardner picked up the folic acid tablets again and put them in her mouth with a mouthful of soy milk.
After relaying her grandmother's words to Nanny Finn, she went back to her room to tidy up.
The room was previously lived alone, and she was nerdy, so she put a lot of comic books, novels and magazines in the room.
Even, the coffee table cabinet in the room, she are loaded with some snacks and drinks, bad mood, or do not want to bother Nanny Finn, she will just eat some snacks to pass.
Now, Zachary Irwin is moving back in with himself, those things she naturally dare not put.
When she reached the nine pregnancy tests on the bedside table that showed only one bar, Jane Gardner's eyes fluttered and her thin, slender fingers touched them, feeling a pinch.
Her left side of her heart felt like a weight was pressing down on it, and it was hard for her to breathe.
No one knew how much she loved Zachary Irwin, and no one knew how much she had been looking forward to carrying his child for the past three years.
She knew she couldn't have his love, but the mere thought of having a child between him and herself made her so excited.
But three years, over and over again, she had begun to wonder if she could still conceive his child.
"Young lady, the young master's things have been delivered, where do you think these should go?"
Nanny Finn knocked on the door and saw Jane Gardner staring at the pregnancy test, and a flash of heartache flashed across her face.
She knew how she felt about the young master, but having been in the Irwin family for so many years, she knew better that her young master was a man without a heart.
All these years, no matter what kind of woman, her young master never really put anyone in his heart.
So, this marriage of theirs is destined to be Jane Gardner's calamity alone.
"I'll do it."
Jane Gardner gathered her emotions and took the suitcase from Nanny Finn, her heart inexplicably feeling a bit apprehensive.
It was the first time in seven years that she had touched Zachary Irwin's things.
Seven years ago, she worked in a restaurant and had picked up his watch.
At that time, he was noble and distinguished, but easy-going.
After receiving the watch in his hand, he not only dismissed the manager of the restaurant who was bullying her, but also helped her pay the tuition fee for the second semester of her freshman year, preventing her from being expelled from school.
Afterwards, she worked at the restaurant for three years, paying off the tuition she owed him with her work, but she never met him again.
She thought, this life may not be fate.
How could she have imagined that a medical examination held in her senior year of college would reveal that she had a special blood type, which led to Ottilia Amos taking a liking to her and forcing him to marry her?
Four years in college, three years after marriage.
She had known him and loved him for seven years.
Seven years, more than two thousand days, more than sixty thousand hours.
Jane Gardner has never been obsessed with anyone in her life, but only with Zachary Irwin, but she is crazy and obsessed.
