Chapter 84 Can’t wait
♤SEBASTIAN♤
Yasmin stays silent for a long moment, her breath fanning lightly against my face before she slowly pulls back to look at me.
The confusion in her eyes is still there.
"But I still have so many questions, Sebastian," she says quietly, her brows drawing together.
"If I left you three years ago because of that… then why was I living in Spain all this time? And why did Aunt Sofia lie to me about my entire life? She told me I was born in Madrid. She told me I was an orphan, and that she was the only family I had left in this world."
A cold feeling settles deep in my stomach.
I was right.
Whoever this Aunt Sofia really is… she's been lying to Yasmin all along.
But why?
What does she gain from it? What was her goal? Who put this whole thing into motion?
No wonder she's been so desperate to uncover her identity.
Living a life that doesn't belong to you… surrounded by people who keep lying and using you… that's enough to drive anyone insane.
Why didn't I think about how she felt instead of keeping her in the dark?
Yeah…
I was selfish.
At first, part of me wanted to help her remember everything. But then I remembered what happened that night… and I stopped trying.
Maybe I don't deserve her at all.
I look at her sweet, innocent face, and every protective instinct inside me grows even stronger.
"She lied to you," I say quietly.
Yasmin blinks, her breath catching.
"What?"
"Aunt Sofia… whoever she really is… she's not your family, Yasmin."
I keep one hand gently against her cheek, grounding both of us.
"She lied to you. And I'm very certain she had something to do with your disappearance three years ago. If we can get hold of her, we will get our answers."
"She's dead," Yasmin whispers. "She died of cancer some months ago."
"She's dead? I… um… I'm sorry about that.”
I hesitate for a second before continuing.
"You really don't have any family, Yas. You're an orphan. You grew up on the streets."
Fresh tears gather in her eyes. She doesn't even try to stop them. They fall freely.
I gently wipe them away with my thumb.
"I'm sorry."
She lowers her head for a moment before looking back at me.
"So… you're saying I don't have anyone in this world I can call family?"
A small smile finds its way onto my face.
"Come on," I murmur.
"You've got me. And back then, you had your best friend, Ginger… and her parents. They treated you like their own daughter. They were family too."
The moment Ginger's name leaves my mouth, Yasmin's eyes widen.
"Ginger?"
My heart skips, and my thumb stills against her cheek.
"Yes," I answer carefully. "Ginger. Do you remember her, Yas?"
"I…" She hesitates, biting lightly on her bottom lip. "I saw her today."
Every muscle in my body tightens.
"You… saw her?"
She opens her mouth, but I catch the brief flash of panic in her eyes before she forces an awkward smile.
"Uh… I saw her in my dream this morning," she says quickly.
"In the dream, there was… there was a flower shop, and I saw a girl named Ginger there. We seemed really close."
She's lying.
Yasmin has always been a terrible liar, so whenever she tries to hide something, I catch her easily.
"Really?" I ask, watching her carefully.
She nods a little too fast.
"I thought it was just a dream… but maybe it wasn't."
A faint smile tugs at my lips.
"It's possible your memories are starting to return. That happens sometimes with amnesia. Old memories can come back as dreams before they return completely."
For a second, she simply stares at me. Then hope slowly begins to replace the sadness in her eyes.
"My memories…" she whispers, as if she's afraid to believe it.
She presses a trembling hand over her mouth.
"My memories are coming back?"
A small laugh escapes her, shaky at first, before it grows into genuine excitement.
"Oh my God…" Her eyes light up.
"My memories are actually coming back!"
She lets out a happy squeal and throws both hands into the air before laughing again, almost bouncing on her feet like an excited child.
Seeing that smile again should make me happy.
It should.
This is what I've wanted from the very beginning. So why does my chest feel so heavy?
Is it because deep down… there's still a selfish part of me that doesn't want her to remember?
Or maybe…
I just don't want her to remember that night.
God…
I hope she never does.
Trying to calm my nerves, I step closer and pull her fully into my arms. I wrap one arm around her waist while the other settles gently against her back.
She melts into the embrace without hesitation.
I lower my head and press a soft kiss to her hair, breathing in the familiar scent I've missed for three long years.
"I'm so happy, sweetheart," I murmur, slowly rubbing comforting circles across her back as she rests against my chest.
"I can't wait for all your memories to come back. Then you'll finally see that I wasn't lying when I told you we were madly in love."
She stays in my arms for another moment before slowly tilting her head back to look at me.
A warm smile spreads across her face.
"I can't wait either," she purrs, her eyes shining with excitement.
Then, slowly, her smile turns into a slightly darker smirk.
"I can't wait to remember who you cheated on me with."
