Chapter 9
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes.
Blake’s dad paused, pretended not to notice, and kept going:
1 already got Blake to move Amber back home with us. From now on, her and the baby are gonna stay with us. No more getting in the way of you and Blake!
“Look, you guys got married pretty quick, and honestly the house could use some fixing up. I’ve got another place in the same area. 111 put it under your name and you can do whatever you want with it. Sound good?”
Blake’s dad sure looked like he was trying to offer a good solution.
But he was totally missing the point.
I want to divorce Blake.”
was really pressed for time–I’d only managed to call a lawyer, but we hadn’t actually talked things through yet. So for now, all I could do was keep making my tance clear.
Are you kidding me? You wreck the whole house over something this small, and now you want a divorce? Is this what your dad taught you?”
Blake’s mom couldn’t couldn’t hold back anymore and started yelling at me.
His dad acted like he was trying to calm her down, but I could see he was just seeing how I’d react.
lassic good cop, bad cop.
hey thought they could make me cave.
My dad never taught me to wreck houses. But he did teach me one thing growing up–married guys need to stay away from women who aren’t their wives.”
oon as I said that, both their faces changed.
bo
had no idea if Blake had told them about all the shady stuff Amber had been up to.
ut if they wanted drama, fine–let’s go big.
Everyone in Manhattan probably knows I trashed our wedding house by now, right? They’re all wondering why someone who followed Blake around like a
uppy
for three years, would just snap like that. I don’t mind telling people some interesting stories about what goes on between a guy and his dead brother’s regnant wife. Wanna hear?”
lake’s mom totally lost it. she lunged at me, trying to hit me, but Blake’s dad grabbed her waist:
I’ll kill you, you lying bitch! Amber’s already going through hell carrying my oldest boy’s baby, and you’re here making up lies!”
he looked so mad–like she genuinely had no idea Amber could be like this.
o I pulled up the security videos I’d saved on my phone.
nd put them on our giant 100–inch TV.
n the video, Amber was wearing this nightgown that barely covered her thighs. She was standing at the study door, talking all sweet:
Blakey, I can’t sleep. Can you tell me some stories about when you and your brother were kids?”
lake’s parents were totally glued to the screen.
hey watched their younger son follow his older brother’s widow into the guest room.
And lock the door.
Maybe they were just talking.”
Blake’s mom was still trying to make excuses, but you could tell she was starting to doubt it.
I switched to another video.
This time Amber had on this low cut dress.
She was bending over with her hands behind her back.
She said to Blake, who was on the rouch watching TV news:
“Blake, I want some honey but I can’t reach it. Can you help me?”
I quickly switched to the kitchen camera.
Blake reached up to get the honey jar from the top shelf.
Amber pressed right up against him, her full, curvy chest pressing and rubbing against Blake’s back over and over.
Blake didn’t pull away.
Then next second-
Their lips met.
When we were redoing the house, a friend said I should get some security cameras.
They’d keep crooks away, and I could also see if Blake was cheating.
didn’t really take that second part seriously.
For safety and looks, I got these hidden cameras that were hard to see.
And put them in the main areas like the living room and kitchen.
I never actually watched any of the videos.
Until that day, I found Blake’s lips looked weirdly swollen and red.
