Chapter 59 He would know what to do.

Chapter 59 He would know what to do.
Vincent

I had two theories on why Ariel and Kael could have planned to meet up tonight at that park. One, either Kael was planning to keep the operation going for his benefit, or two, both of them were working together. Because let’s think about it…

The accident happened after I left the cabin, right after my meeting with Ariel, and Tasha did mention back then during my escape that she asked about me. That was the only evidence I had, but it was enough, honestly.

What were the odds that he didn’t plant her there in the room that day we went to meet Alan? It would make a whole lot of sense since shit started going down from that day.

“Vincent?” I pressed the nuzzle of the gun against her head more firmly before she could try to turn around. "Don't—don't move. Answer my question.”

“Okay. Okay. Uhm… What did you say?”

I sighed exasperatedly at the question. “What did you and Kael talk about in the park just now?”

“Nothing. I mean not nothing. He's the one that told me to meet him there. At first, I thought it was you, but then I found out that it was him, and when I asked about you, he only said that you wouldn't be able to meet up with me again because you're quite busy and occupied. So I'll have to report to him from now on and meet him at a different location from the cabin because something came up with the cabin.”

She was hyperventilating by the time she finished talking. “I don't... I don't know what is going on." “Did I… did I do something wrong?”

I could barely form a response. Not because I had no idea what to say—oh, I had quite a load of questions—but because my body was refusing to function.

Oh fuck. I muttered under my breath as I felt my body starting to succumb to the darkness that had been encroaching on my consciousness since I started to follow Kael from the factory.

My head fell back against the backseat, and the gun clattered down from my hand as I tried to will the darkness away one more time.

It wasn't working. I was losing it and barely registered a loud gasp right before I lost consciousness.

Fuck.

Ariel

I couldn’t stop shaking even after I felt the gun clatter to the floor away from my head. Oh God. The silence was loud after that.

“V-vincent?” I said after a full minute. No response.

“W-what is going on?” I still got no response, which made me muster up enough courage to turn my head around even though he had said explicitly not to do so.

Okay, what the fuck was happening right now? First, Kael had said he was busy and wouldn't be able to meet with me from now till further notice, even though he was here in my car now threatening me and asking me what I and Kael had been talking about.

And now, he was slumped in my back seat, unmoving and suddenly quiet after giving me that soul-snatching scare for absolutely no reason.

I tried to make out his features in the car even though it was pretty much impossible thanks to how dark the alley and car were, so I moved my hands slowly to turn on the car lights while still training my eyes on his body.

I let out a loud gasp the minute I saw what was really before me. “Oh my God!”

Not only was he in a cloth that looked very much like those clothes they give patients at hospitals with bandages over his head and legs, but the top he had on was completely soaked with blood, telling me just what I needed to know about why he wasn't moving right now.

The fuck.

Oh my God. “Is he dead?”

I moved to jump out of the car and was barely reminding myself to breathe when I pulled open the back seat door to gauge the situation properly.

The sight, close up, made me immediately nauseous, but I leaned in anyway to press my fingers against his neck. Oh my God. He wasn't breathing. He's dead. He's—oh God. I felt a sliver of relief go through me the minute I finally felt the pulse I had been searching around for.

Okay, so he was still alive, but… like… what do I do? Should I call the police? No. No. I mean ambulance… 911.

I made a sharp U-turn to grab my phone from the passenger seat where it was switched off. I turned on the phone and made my way back to him while still running my options in circles in my head.

No. I should call Kael. Take him to St Valerio…

“Don't go to St Valerio either.” The last thing Kael had said to me before we parted ways suddenly popped into my head right then.

He'd said something about it being renovated and my mom getting moved—no, no, this wasn't the time to ruminate on what he said.

So what do I do?

I ran around again to grab the burner from the car compartment and was making my way back to him again when I heard something coming from his mouth.

Oh fuck. Was he trying to tell me something?

I leaned in as much as I could without touching him to hear what he had to say but could barely make out the words.

“Don't…don't…”

I leaned back, my eyebrows furrowed. “Vincent?”

“What are you saying?”

He was silent when I leaned in again to hear what he had to say. Don't what?

I leaned back again and winced when I took in the blood on his cloth again. What could have possibly happened? Did he get attacked?

I fisted the burner in my hand, anxious and scared for a lot of reasons, and then I stepped out properly to call Kael.

He would know what to do.
