Chapter 56

Jerome Wallace was released from his cell with two human guards snatching his arms and didn't utter a single word. He noticed that they were in fact in a cavern covered with an alloy of silver. The taller guard was a little bit off, his scent was familiar to him and his silver-gray hair was enchanted. He knew this human was covering something, yet none seemed to talk. The walls, the floors were all covered with their bane. No possible rescue will come sooner, and he knew that their pack link didn't work, nor could he give Lady Maria her exact location. His ability lay dormant nor was he healing. Somehow he became hopeless in this hell.

Five minutes later, the high guard Lally quickly made her way up the stairs to the prisoner's cell. Outside the door, an armed guard stood looking anxious. They were afraid of her. Most of these new men were fairies with no apparent training and experience with fighting supernatural beings. The only reason they were chosen to guard was because of their military background. When they saw her approach they became even more anxious. “Open the door.” She glared at them. The guards scampered around and bowed their heads, not willing to face her wrath. They knew the seer has extraordinary strength that even with their combined effort they did not stand a chance with the tiny woman and she could enchant so fast before they could even blink.

She silently entered and her breath caught in her throat at the sight, her two prisoners were gone and the cell was empty. Even the traitor's daughters were gone too. She may punish the guard for it later. She did not order them out. Lally's eyes went around and started to scream. “Guard well the hell is Jerome Wallace? Who let them out?” She shrieked as fury roared through her veins. Her eyes flickered with rage. Who the hell took them?

“You... You... ordered them out milady.” One of the guards had the guts to reply. Lally punched him as quickly as she could and the helpless guard lay unconscious. “I did not order them to be released, who dared let them out of this cell?” She wailed loudly and gnashed her teeth towards the retreating guard. “Two!.. Two guards took...took her out milady... Hmp! Your... Your order.” His panic was clear, he stepped back and bowed his head. He knew that this woman could kill him in a blink. Lally advanced slowly, her eyes glinting with anger as she held his neck making him inched to the floor.

The guard trashed around uselessly, attempting to break her hold. A red-hot burning throb radiates from the spot on his shoulder her burning hand was in. He could feel his blood scorching and boiling out as she held him tightly and summoned her power. She dropped his body back to the floor lifting his face to the ceiling in complete panic. He may have even heard her whimper before life left his eyes.

“Stupid farries.”

She runs and shouts towards his second in command. “The traitor and his daughter escaped. Alert everyone, I'm sure they aren't far from here yet.” She felt the anger building and the rage settled over her. She might not have a choice and released few ferals later. Those werewolves were born a tracker and for sure they could track them if they ended up outside the cavern.

In the distance, Jerome's guard held him tightly. In their back, another guard carried his unconscious daughter. They never uttered a word, nor did they acknowledge his many questions. They smell like humans but oddly stronger. The taller man seems to carry him without problem even with his massive self.

“Who are you? If Lord Colton ordered you to kill me, can you at least kill me now?” he begged. There were no hopes in his voice anymore; he knew his end was near. “Silence,” the guards whispered. Jerome turned his head toward him and brows knitted. He sounds familiar, yet with them, all covered with something he couldn't fathom, he could not recognize any of them. “David?” he muttered. “...is that you, Lady Maria told me that...”

“Silence. Alpha, no need to talk, what took you so long to recognize me? Wait, don't answer that. Don't talk just yet. They might hear you.”

“How did you do? Where is Lady Maria? Please tell me you did not bring her with you,” he begged. “...please tell me you did not risk her.”

"She's not here."

"Good," Jerome added.

“We don't stand a chance with this fairy, they have ferals with them and I'm not healing, wolfsbane, the ferals weren't affected by it though, and I fear if they caught us we would certainly be dead.”

On cue, the high guard fairy lunged forward so fast that they didn't see her coming, she quickly sprinted towards them and came closer by the second, then jabbing out her sword in an attempt to stab Jerome's back.

“Now! Look here the famous sorcerer David, so I was right then, you weren't just an ordinary human and so was this traitor. Why am I not surprised? This underground could no longer clock your scent huh?" She cried out as she offered them another attack of her powerful sword and David fell down.

Urgently David told Jerome Wallace to run.

The rest of the human guards and two fairies fought with the commander and his companion yet the odds were not on their side. Jerome Wallace ran towards the exit as instructed yet unnoticed. However, unbeknownst to them, one of the fairies sprinted towards the retreating figure of Jerome.

David's reflex kicked in, and he ducked forward, took his sword from his shoulder, swung his sword as hard as he could, and cleaved Lally's legs. She noticed this at the last second and only got away with a small, bleeding slice.  Her expressions dulled as she sprinted at David and rage gripped her, but this time he just raised his sword and the two blades clanged together, creating a rumbling echo through the cave. The weight of Lally's sword was dragging him down, but he soon recovered and pushed back hard. She was very strong, and David was weakening from the magic that envelops them, so he jumped back and dashed forward with his sword straight out in front of him and swallowed down his frustration.

“Dammit!” He screwed up his face. Anger coursed through his veins. What the fuck is her problem? He thought angrily. The wounds, the injuries, they have a way of boosting the most primitive parts of him and silencing the best. He was determined. Determined in all the best ways. It cultivates him into his animal self. Yet with the fairy's magic encircles them. He was losing it. And so thought he still feels the slow healing process and remains courageous but it was still painful nonetheless.

Lally attempted to stab his arm, but he tucked his shoulders and impaled his stomach instead. “ahh!” David snarled, jumping back to recover. As a wave of molten anger rolled through him.

“David...” Leon the troll cried out and scampered towards him. He held him tight and supported him to stand up. “Dammit, why are you here? I told you not to...” His words were cut off when Lally's sword hit him again on his back. David howled in pain as he stumbled Leon and terror overtook his face as the high guard's sword now pointed to Leon's neck. The old troll lay steady, not willing to move as he surveyed the high guard holding the other end of the blade. Now that he wasn't using his magic nor was he using his power to mist his visage, recognition dawned on his face.

“Now! Now! What do we have here? A troll?” Lally asked. Her nose crinkled as the familiar scent hit her nose. “It is you!” she blurted. She took a glance even with the dim light of the cavern and she still recognized this old troll.

"...you're the troll who helped me, oh yes, it's you!” Lally raised her brow and began to wonder. Confused as she peered on the old troll. This was the troll who helped back when she was at the witch's village and had been abducted.

“Impossible!” Leon's appalled face was clear as the day, his pupils flared in acknowledgment. It's her, she recognized this fairy.

Lally ordered her man to stop fighting and lowered her sword onto the ground. She owed this troll her life, she thought she was just a tiny filter on her vision. With her naked eye and the brain open to the fate of her past reality, yet her amazement comes. It takes a second or two for the new information to sink in, even though it was right before her eyes.

"Oh, come on Lally. You owe me remember?" Don't you think it's time for you to hold up your end of the bargain?" Leon asked.

Then she felt her lips stretched wider into a gaping grind and hoped that the woman would let them go.

Lally looked at him and knitted her brows, yet she was a woman with honor, "Okay I'll give you ten minutes' head start. Do not let me catch you old troll and this sorcerer. Go! We are even now old man. Now! Go!"

With what they heard they ran faster like they never ran before.
