Somewhere In Italy

Somewhere In Italy
Santiago

The private jet lands on the tarmac and the engines hum slowly until a heavy silence sets in. As soon as I step off the plane with a poise that leaves no doubt about my authority, it's as if the world is holding its breath to keep quiet, and it amuses me to see such respect for me. But let's stay focused. Alvaro follows me closely, his gaze vigilant like a faithful shadow, ready to react at the slightest sign of threat. He is right, we must always be on our guard.

No sooner had I set foot on Italian soil than Leopoldo was already there, welcoming me with an unflappable presence, surrounded by a swarm of men in tailored black suits. All wearing discreet earpieces and sunglasses, ready at a moment's notice to defend me against any attack. The atmosphere is intense, charged with the energy of a film where the hero makes his triumphant entrance.

I exude an intimidating, powerful aura, a blend of charisma and danger that makes even these burly men in uniform feel small. This sovereignty controls their emotions, urging them to stand up straight, be respectful and aware of my presence.

After Leopoldo greets me with a handshake, without a word, we set off. My right arms, one on either side, advance with determination towards an armored black limousine. With a slight clatter and a fluid movement, the driver opens the door for me. We take our places inside, where dark leather welcomes our muscular bodies. The driver starts the car and we gradually pull away. As for the black-suited army, they climb into grey armoured vans and follow us all the way.

In this mafia world, respect was earned at a high price, and I am the king on my chessboard, ready to play my next card.

The atmosphere in the limousine is almost claustrophobic with the tinted windows, accompanied by the sunlight filtering through. In a hoarse voice, I begin to outline my plan concerning that bastard Ignacio, who not only dared to stick his nose where it did not belong, but also to attack Orely. The aim is to hit him hard, showing that the devils are us so he will piss his pants in fear. My two companions nod with a serious expression to the point of frowning.

"As that this bastard thinks he has got La Domina on his side and thinks he is well protected, luring him to a fake meeting might do the trick, on the pretext that he is going on a mission, for example. But it has to be clean, no harm, no foul." I insist.

"Okay, boss. Therewll will be no mercy, no witnesses and not a trace left" Alvaro says with a determined look on his face, who always knows what I am talking about.

"We have to strike when he least expects it. A swift, decisive attack to annihilate him" Leopoldo continues.

I nod, my piercing gaze scanning my two men.

"That is right. That is the word, annihilate! We need to make a noise, so that if anyone dares to defy us or oppose us, they will end up badly."

Just then, my phone vibrates in my jacket pocket, interrupting the discussion. I pick it up, my face tense. Before I can react, the limousine is rocked by a series of bangs. The windows shake under the impact of the bullets. Instinctively, Leopoldo straightens up, his hands rushing to the trunk hidden under the seats.

"Down, boss!"

"Quick, the guns!" I shout, as Alvaro opens the trunk and pulls out pistols and machine guns. The atmosphere is at its height, with the sound of bullets still echoing outside, creating a monstrous crosstalk. The vehicle begins to zigzag along the deserted road in full sunlight, as the driver tries to keep control.

“We will show them what it costs to take us on! Ready? Now!" I order, my voice full of rage. I pick up a submachine gun, bend down to aim through the glass.

My men, in the grey vans following us, react quickly. They draw their weapons, firing in the direction of the attackers. Bullets whistle through the air, and chaos ensues as the firefight erupts.

"Target on the left!" shouts Leopoldo, aiming at a hidden shooter. My Italian men, trained and determined, opened fire, taking out one by one the attackers trying to surround us.

Crap! The limousine wobbles, but the driver keeps his cool and accelerates, trying to lose the assailants. But reflexively, the vans line up in formation around the limousine, creating a protective barrier.

The shots ring out, but little by little, my men quickly gain the upper hand. The attackers, caught off-guard by the unexpectedly violent riposte, back away abruptly, throwing in the towel that they're no match for us. The tension in the air slowly dissipates. Out of breath but determined, I look at my men. The driver stops the car and I get out, taking off my jacket. All my men line up before me.

My breathing is slow, controlled, but my thoughts are swirling. I have just been through a crucial ordeal. The adrenalin starts to subside, giving way to a dull anger. Somehow, I can't help smiling. Sweet victory, but a bitter taste.

"Good job, boys. We never let an enemy win the game." I declared, looking around me at the bodies sprawled along the road. We are going to find those idiots.

"What do you mean, find them?" claims Alvaro, confused.

"Yeah, dude, you heard right! There are two of them! Luis called me just before the attack to inform me that Ignacio has a twin brother. The one at the hotel is him, but the one who just took us by surprise is his brother, Igniaki.  Well, that is enough emotion for today ! War is officially declared and they are not getting away with it!"

My mind is already planning what's next. I know that this victory is just a stage because these enemies will try again. The limousine set off again, more determined than ever to resolve this conflict.
