Chapter 152
Chapter 152
Nico – The Wedding – One week later
I still have not approached my father about the allegations against him. Every time I think about it, my stomach falls and bile runs up into the back of my throat. The mere fact that my father could even do such a thing horrifies me. When I look at my mother it makes me feel desperately sad that she has married such a man.
Yelena has no reason to lie; my instinct tells me she is speaking the truth. Which begs the question. How many other women has my father assaulted?
“How do you feel?” Tony asks looking smart in his dark suit, white shirt and black tie. Lucky instructed that everyone had to wear white and black. I’ve already seen the ballroom decked out in a magical scene of white and black. The woman and her assistant, Alex certainly have a vision.
Standing in the guest room, since Lucky has the master suite on this day of our wedding, I give him a winning smile taking my thoughts off my father and Yelena who is still in our custody. Not having a good time, I can assure you.
“Good, I’m excited and nervous. What if I don’t meet her expectations as a husband?”
Tony comes towards me and gives my shoulder a squeeze. “Nico, you’ve got this. You are a good man and will be a good husband. You deserve Lucky and she deserves a man like you, who worships the ground she walks on.”
I knock back my two fingers of Macallan for Dutch courage. My heart beats fast as the thought of finally marrying Lucky Gianluca. Her beauty beats that of Helen of Troy, her fierceness and her loyalty are ingrained in my body and soul.
“Thanks, Brother. Where the hell is Dario?”
Tony gives me a small laugh. “He is with Alex.”
I raise my eyebrows. “Alex?” then I say, “as in Lucky’s Alex the planner?”
“The very one. They’re having a heated argument about the string quartet. Don’t ask, Brother I have no idea what there is to argue about. Let me say though, the way they keep bitching with each other, is no different than you and Lucky in the early days.”
I place the glass down and offer the bottle to Tony. He waves it away. “Not today, later we can drink.”
“You think he’ll be next with a woman in his life?” The thought pleases me that Dario could settle down. It’s what he needs. A good woman behind him. His journey has been long and tough but so far so good. He is still sober and for that we are all thankful and grateful.
“Who knows, if they don’t kill each other first.”
Twenty minutes later we have had our best man and groom chat. My nerves will not quell. Dammit why am I so nervous? I know I’m going to spoil my princess and give her anything her heart desires. I will ensure that I am the best husband to her, to support her, protect her and give my life for hers.
The quartet starts playing with the original wedding march as I stand at the front of the alter to the side with Tony and Dario flanking me. They both look handsome. My mother sits in the front with my father on one side, Lucky’s mother on the other, where her husband will join her after giving Lucky to me. Both mothers are dabbing their eyes with white handkerchiefs.
When the large, castle style doors open to the ballroom, I do not resist and when I see the vision of beauty that comes through holding onto her father’s arm, my heart flips several times. My chest puffs out like I am a fierce protective dragon. The sight of her is a vision to behold.
The black, diamond encrusted bodice cinches in at her waist as the white, tulle skirt falls to her ankles showcasing her flat, black pumps. She literally steals my breath away. Never have I seen a woman so beautiful in my entire life.
Lucky Gianluca is going to be mine and there will be no man in this world who will ever take her from me.
Her eyes lock with mine, I am a drowning man as I watch her lips curve into a radiant smile. Without a doubt, I know that I am floating high above at the sight of this woman about to marry me and be the father of my children.
She stands with her father before the alter, the black and white roses in a tear drop display fit her outfit perfectly. Her father releases her arm from his and steps towards me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“I trust my daughter to you, Nico with my life. Be good to her, be fair to her and love her like your life depends on it please.” I’m choked up and swallow the lump down in my throat. Lucky glances at us both and mouths, l love you, Nico.
Our eternal life is about to begin as man and wife and I couldn’t be happier than I am right now. All these emotions swirl around and tears of joy and happiness well in my eyes.
The great Nico Santangelo is being brought to tears and his knees by the Mafia Queen to be, Lucky Gianluca.
