The Final Reckoning
Magnus felt the energy of the gap surge through him, causing the air to crackle with electricity. His skin burned, and his limbs ached from the suffocating weight of the alien energies that now whirled around him. He could not concentrate on his surroundings; his thoughts kept returning to Celeste. He felt her presence, flickering like a dying star yet so far away.
"Not yet," he said to himself. The schism had ripped everything apart—his world, his heart. However, he could not afford to lose hope. Not now.
The creature's shadow—the one behind the rift—loomed ahead of him, its form vague and flickering between phases. It whispered to him in a voice that shook his core. "You will fail."
He gritted his teeth and stepped forward. If he wanted to save Celeste or the planet, he had to destroy it. Regardless of the expense.
The creature's laughing resonated through the rift, creating a chilling sensation that wrapped around his chest like iron chains. "You are not against me. "You can not halt what has already started."
He reached out and summoned the last of his might. "I do not have to stop it. "I just need to stop it."
As Magnus poised to strike, the rift widened, swallowing him whole.
Celeste floated in the abyss, her mind shredding and tangling in the fabric of the rift. The tempest of evil energy that surrounded her howled, pushing at her soul and urging her to let go. She could feel Magnus' presence, but it was remote and unreachable. Was he still alive?
A voice broke through the storm, quiet but clear. "Celeste…"
Her heartbeat skipped. That was his voice. "Magnus?" she asked, but the words were lost in the din of the tumult. She reached out, but the blackness stuck to her like tar.
"You can not save him," the beast said, his voice twisted and cruel. It was not Magnus, just an echo. A lie.
"No," she said firmly, shaking her head. "I will not give in. "Not again."
Her and Magnus' bond flickered, teetering on the edge. She could feel his struggle, but she was not sure if it was sufficient. She needed to reach him. She had to try.
But before she could concentrate her power, the fissure pulsed again, sending her spiralling into oblivion.
Magnus felt the ground under him quiver, and the air was thick with a distinct sense of foreboding. He would lost track of time. The mayhem surrounding him filled his every thought and deed, but he could not let go. He could not fail. Not when Celeste needed him.
The thing was no longer merely a form. It had grown, its shape morphing into something enormous, old. The blackness was too big and overwhelming to understand.
"You are weak," it said. "You can not save her. "You can not stop me."
Magnus felt a flood of sadness rush over him, but he refused to bend. The split was widening, and the world as they knew it was on the point of collapse. The stakes have never been higher.
"Maybe not," Magnus said, his voice firm despite the horror in his veins. "But I will not give up."
He fought back with all of his remaining might, focussing on his relationship with Celeste and drawing on their combined power. It was more than just halting the thing; it was about saving both of them.
The beast roared, sending shockwaves through the universe. Its huge body grew, and its eyes shone with a terrible radiance.
Just as Magnus was about to attack, a bright burst of light encompassed everything. Was there hope or an end?
Celeste's body was limp, and her mind was barely holding on as the rift drew her deeper into the maelstrom. But she could feel Magnus' force reaching out to her. It was not enough. Not yet.
The rift's energy pressed against her chest, forcing her to kneel. Every breath was a fight, and each pulse of strength weakened her further. The truth was clear: she could not do it alone.
Then—he was there. Magnus.
She felt his presence surge through her, his will pushing against the darkness, and then their bond snapped into place. It was like a lifeline, bringing her back from the edge.
"Magnus!" Her voice cut through the silence, just a whisper, but enough.
Their energies clashed at that precise moment, forming a powerful pulse that shook the fissure. They were stronger together than they would ever been.
But just as Celeste's eyesight began to clear, the fissure shuddered fiercely, and the creature's laughter echoed louder than before. "It is too late," it hissed.
Magnus and Celeste stood side by side, their hands stretching out to each other, the final ray of hope against the insanity overtaking the earth. The fissure was collapsing inward, threatening to implode and destroy everything.
The creature's form towered over them, a swirling mass of darkness and energy. It hissed, filling the silence around them.
"Do you believe you can stop me?" it hissed. "You are inconsequential, same like the others."
Celeste and Magnus, however, had overcome their fear. Together, they were unstoppable.
"Not inconsequential," Celeste remarked, her voice loud amidst the tumult. "Just be persistent."
With a final burst of energy, they linked forces, their willpower melting into one. The rift rattled, and the creature faltered briefly. Magnus and Celeste could feel the balance tilting.
The rift broke, erupting with blinding light from its core. Was this their win, or had they simply sealed their fate?
