Chapter 34 - Damien's POV
Chapter 34 - Damien's POV
Watching ancient cosmic entities converge on the medical facility where my newborn daughter lay peacefully in her mother's arms was not how I'd imagined spending my first hour as a father. But then again, nothing about our family had ever been conventional.
Multiple contacts approaching from all directions, Marcus reported through the pack communications system. Energy signatures unlike anything we've cataloged before.
How many? I asked while keeping my eyes on my daughter, who seemed to be mentally conversing with beings I couldn't even perceive.
Seven confirmed, possibly more. And Alpha... they're not just ancient entities. Some of these signatures match theoretical models for gods.
Gods. Of course. I looked down at my baby girl, who chose that moment to grab my finger with a grip that somehow conveyed both supernatural strength and perfect trust. Our daughter's birth is attracting deities.
Through our mate bond, I felt Megan's mixture of wonder and concern as she processed the scope of supernatural attention their child was drawing.
She says they're all friends, Megan shared. But that's a lot of 'friends' for a baby who's been breathing for less than an hour.
The First Father's massive presence had settled directly above the medical facility, not threatening but definitely protective. Through the windows, I could see his form shifting between dimensions, sometimes appearing as a wolf the size of a mountain, sometimes as a human figure wreathed in starlight.
Guardian-child, his voice resonated through every supernatural consciousness in the area. The First Pack welcomes the new life. Long have we waited for one who could bridge all worlds.
The First Pack? Elena looked up from her protective wards with growing amazement. There are more of them?
The original supernatural beings, our daughter explained matter-of-factly, apparently happy to serve as translator. First Mother, First Father, First Hunter, First Healer, First Teacher... She paused, considering. Lots of Firsts. They're excited about meeting me.
Why? I asked, though part of me wasn't sure I wanted to know the answer.
Because I'm the first new one in a very long time who can talk to all of them at once.
The implications of that statement were staggering. If our daughter could communicate with the original supernatural entities, the cosmic forces we'd been working to integrate, and regular supernatural beings all simultaneously...
She's not just a bridge between mortal and cosmic, I realized. She's a bridge between every level of supernatural existence.
Which explains why everything within a thousand miles is suddenly very interested in her, Dorian observed grimly.
Dr. Kim was frantically taking readings while trying to maintain medical protocols during what appeared to be a convergence of primordial supernatural forces.
"The baby's vital signs are perfect," she reported with professional amazement. "In fact, her health indicators are improving as more entities arrive. It's like their presence is somehow beneficial to her development."
Of course it is, our daughter said with what sounded like contentment. Family makes everything better.
Family? Megan asked.
Big family. Very big. Some I haven't met yet, but they feel like family.
Through the communications system, Elena's voice carried barely controlled excitement and terror in equal measure.
"We're detecting energy patterns consistent with the awakening of dormant supernatural sites across three states," she reported. "Whatever's happening here, it's triggering responses from magical locations that have been inactive for centuries."
Our daughter's birth is literally awakening the supernatural world, I thought with a mixture of pride and deep concern.
But before I could fully process the implications, our daughter's attention shifted to something that made her clap her tiny hands with delight.
Oh! The sleepy ones from underground are coming to visit too!
My blood went cold. "Which sleepy ones?"
The three nice ones who learned to be happy instead of hungry and cold and empty. They want to meet me.
Our reformed entities. Of course they'd be drawn here.
But where are they supposed to be? Megan asked with growing alarm.
Through the pack bonds, Marcus's voice carried information that confirmed our worst fears.
All three containment facilities are reporting departures. The entities didn't break out—they just... left. Walked away from their containment and headed directly here.
Three cosmic entities, reformed or not, approaching a medical facility containing a newborn with unprecedented supernatural abilities.
This could go very well or very badly.
Our daughter seemed completely unconcerned by the convergence of forces that had every supernatural monitoring station on the continent in full alert mode.
Going to be a good party, she observed happily. Everyone's coming to welcome me.
The magnitude of what was happening began to truly sink in as I felt the approaching presences through my enhanced Alpha senses. This wasn't just a supernatural gathering—it was a cosmic event that would likely be felt across multiple realms of existence. The energy signatures were so powerful that reality itself seemed to be adjusting to accommodate them all in the same space.
Alpha, Marcus's voice carried a note of awe mixed with concern. The military's supernatural monitoring division is reporting anomalies across the entire continent. Whatever your daughter is triggering, it's affecting every supernatural site, sacred location, and dormant magical nexus in North America.
As I held my perfect, glowing daughter while cosmic entities, primordial deities, and reformed forces of destruction all converged on our location, I couldn't help but think that her idea of a "good party" might require some adjustment of expectations.
But looking at her absolute confidence and joy, feeling her trust and love through our developing bond, I found myself believing that maybe—just maybe—she was right.
Maybe this was exactly how it was supposed to happen.
The birth of a new kind of supernatural being, welcomed by every level of existence from the most ancient to the most recently reformed.
A cosmic baby shower, thrown by entities that predated recorded history.
Our daughter gurgled happily, apparently sensing my thoughts.
Told you it would be fun, Daddy.
As the First Father's protective presence intensified and more ancient entities began manifesting around the medical facility, I made a mental note to have a serious conversation with my daughter about her definition of "fun" once she was old enough to understand warnings.
Though knowing our family's luck, she'll probably be old enough for that conversation by next week.
