Believe

Believe
I look at Malcolm. “Believing isn't easy.”  Malcolm raises his eyebrow. “Fine parts aren't easy.”

“We have been around a very long time.

We know what our truths are. You need to learn to believe in yours,” he replies.

“Could you though, if you were me?” I ask. “You all grew up knowing what you are.”

Eric shakes his head. “Knowing what, yes. But not who.”

Niko says, “Emma, shit in our lives has made us who we are. To an extent we are still finding out who we are.”

“What do you mean?”

He looks me in the eye. No bravado or humor. “You. We never anticipated you. So all of this is new to us too. And scary as fuck!”

I look down because he made it sound like it is my fault. Trent lets out a breath. “Love. No, look…” He looks at Niko and shakes his head. “What that asshole means is that he's not used to feeling for anyone. He feels you like we all do.”

Malcolm nods. “Niko and Chase both aren't used to feeling when another is hurt, confused, angry, or sad.” Malcolm strokes my cheek. “Don't hold back because of fear. I want to take you somewhere later. Will you let me?”

I lean into his touch. “Yes.”

Malcolm kisses my forehead. “Good. Get some rest.”

Malcolm’s POV

Just when I thought that I might know all of what Emma is, something happens. This emp of darkness has me thinking. I need to show her something. I need to show her a side of me that none see. Yes, I'm a hybrid, but I wasn't made one like they all assume.

I was born one, much like I think Emma was. I know she thinks that her abilities came because of stress, but I don't think so. I think her mother hid a very dark secret and I think that secret is what killed her.

Is Emma part Siren? Perhaps or perhaps she had a hand in their creation. I can't help but feel that Emma's soul is far older than it seems. It's as if part of it has been erased. But why? And by whom?
