Chase and Malcolm took me back home. Home! They took me home! Trent comes running along with Eric. “Love, how did it go? I tried not to listen.”
I sigh and chew on my lip, “Well…”
“What did you do?” Eric asks.
“How much did you hear?” Chase inquires.
“Just her trying to get him to talk, and then Malcolm went all macho,” Trent replies.
“It blocked us then. Did you kill him, Malcolm?” Eric asks.
Malcolm shakes his head. “No, Emma stopped me.”
Eric looks confused. “Hmmm, alright.”
Chase looks at Eric and asks, “If you were blocked, how did she know that spell?”
“Emma?” Eric asks, his voice laced with worry.
“Words just came to me.”
“What words?” he asks.
“Profer calorem solis. Illumina desiderium meum. Then I stabbed his cock with a glowing pen.”
“Bring forth the heat of the sun. Illuminate my desire. You channeled your intent into the pen using light magic,” Eric replies.
Trent smirks. “Eric, you are forgetting what she did with it. Your little sweetie made him a eunuch. He won't be regenerating that on his own. She just used the light to harm.”
Eric exclaims, “Fuck!”
“Is that bad?”
Malcolm holds my hand. “You committed a dark act with angelic magic. So yes, it is bad; however, it confirms that your Siren is vastly more powerful than any that was ever known.”
“A being of darkness can't use light magic well or at all,” Trent adds.
“Why?”
“In the Underworld, most things are black and white. There is very little room for shades of gray,” Eric explains.
“But Sirens were once pure light as they were muses to the gods. But when they were created, they were gray at first until the curse made them go dark to survive.”
Malcolm nods. “It's Newton's Law basically. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
Trent smiles. “It is why this beauty calms the beast, huh, Malcolm?”
Malcolm shakes his head. “But you do have a point. The very first Sirens would have been in that gray area. But you can't be one of them, it's impossible.” I blush. “But you, Emma, it appears that you are that gray area now, and I guess so are we all because we are your mates.”
Eric gasps. “That makes us very dangerous.”
Chase sighs. “And targets, if any, find out. Emma, don't even try to apologize!”
“It is my fault.”
Malcolm looks at the guys. “Let me.” Then he looks at me, “Emma, walk me out.” He extends his hand, and I take it. That chilling heat returns, running up my arms and down my body.
We walked just outside the doorway. He pushes me back against the closed door. “Malcolm, earlier, felt weird.”
“How?” he asks.
“Where did my strength come from? I felt myself, but a bit altered since this morning. Then I did what I did to Randall. I am so confused.”
“Emma, all will be fine. Let me speak before you say that I'm wrong. You are no longer under a veil. You are who you are. You are who you were born to be. So it makes sense that all of your abilities are manifesting. Could it have to do with whom you have chosen as your mates and those like Mike that you allow into your expanded harem? Maybe. You aren't just a Siren, and maybe there is no human in you anymore either, but you possess humanity because you lived as one for so long. I vaguely remember mine.
But being near you, I remember the most,” he explained,
“Because we are mates.”
Malcolm nods. “Yes. It is good that you are starting to accept what we can't change.”
“I worry.”
Malcolm looks into my eyes. “I feel it. Just like I knew you wouldn't let me kill Randall.”
“You're not mad?”
“No, but you will realize that some deserve death and nothing else,” he replies.
“But the laws…”
Malcolm presses his finger to my lips. “We still follow them mostly. If we didn't, then Maximus would have died long ago.”
“Chase is hiding something, so is Eric, and I think you are too. You expect me to reveal, I think you need to.” I push into him. I cup his face with one hand and run the other down his chest.
“Tell me.” I see his eyes switch to violet.
“Now this is interesting,” murmurs.
His mouth descends onto mine in a devouring kiss. His lips are soft yet cool. My lips part as his tongue meets mine. It's this battle for dominance at first, but I acquiesce. I moan as he deepens the kiss. He pulls away. “Not yet. But soon, very soon. Emma, you tried to compel me just now.”
“No, I just want to know what you're up to.”
Malcolm shakes his head. “Your voice changed, and your eyes became a lilac color.”
“Yours were violet,” I purr.
“Yes, you pulled my vampire out,” he replies.
I gasp. “But I'm not.”
“No, you aren't.” He smirks. “Start believing,” he whispered into my ear. Goosebumps just erupted everywhere. “I can't wait to show you all that we can do, my pet.”
“Tell me.”
“You are persistent.”
“Yep.”
He chuckles. “I just put someone to keep watch over Randall, that's all.”
“Why?”
“You know, like I do, that he wasn't acting alone. Since you worked there, has any woman spent any time alone in his office with him?” he asks.
“Just his secretary.”
“Yet he said that he hadn't had you yet, which implies…”
I interject, “That he has the rest of the office.”
“Yes, maybe he has, but it wasn't in his office. He needed you in there for a reason,” Malcolm says.
“Because I don't socialize outside of the office.”
Malcolm nods. “Yes. Now you are thinking like an agent.”
“I'm not an agent.”
Malcolm gives me a sly smile. “You are now. You were the moment Chase's griffin claimed you.”
“This world just makes no sense.”
“It will start to. We will help you, and you don't just know that, but you feel it as well,” Malcolm reassures.
“I can't allow you all to sacrifice anything.”
“Emma, that's beyond any of our control. It's hard enough to fight the immense attraction. You are having trouble, too. You've already done things that you wouldn't have before, and I am not just talking about your emerging abilities.” I bite my lip. “Exactly.” I blush. He runs his fingers over my jaw, and I lean in. “Soon. Go enjoy your shopping.”
He kisses me, but teleports during the kiss. “Fucking demons!” I say as I go inside and slam the door.
