Chapter 44 Censored History

Chapter 44 Censored History
He was sitting at a small, circular table tucked into a corner, surrounded by stacks of heavy, leather-bound tomes. He was striking—not with the ethereal beauty of Malik or the rugged danger of Ryker, but with a strange, unsettling blend of both. He had silver-white hair and eyes that seemed to shift color like oil on water.

He was also completely alone. Even in a library this vast, the other students seemed to be giving him a wide, respectful, and slightly fearful berth.

I walked up to the table, my curiosity overriding my caution. "Is this seat taken? Or is there a 'no humans' policy in this wing too?"

He looked up, and for a second, I felt a jolt of recognition—not a physical one, but a resonance deep in my marrow, a humming in my blood that felt like home.

"The seat is free," he said, his voice quiet and surprisingly gentle. "But most people find the company... undesirable."

"I’m Amaya," I said, sitting down across from him. "And I’ve spent the day with a demon who calls me a doll and an angel who thinks I’m a statue. I think I can handle undesirable."

A ghost of a smile touched his lips. "I am Chiro. And I suspect we have more in common than just a taste for unpopular company."

"You're the one everyone avoids," I said, my pharmacist brain already cataloging his features. "The Nephilim. The half-breed."

"The abomination," he corrected, though there was no bitterness in his tone, only a weary acceptance. "Juda Gringer doesn't believe in balance, Amaya. He believes in silos. And I am the leak in his perfect system."

"He wants to break me," I said, leaning forward. "Seraphina said the training tomorrow is just a way to dismantle me."

Chiro’s eyes shifted, turning a deep, sympathetic violet. "He’s afraid of you. Not because of who you are now, but because of what you represent. The Prophecy says the 'child of Man' will unite the flames. To Juda, that unity is the end of his power."

He reached out, his hand hovering near mine. I felt it again—the resonance, the pull. It was like looking into a mirror I hadn't known was there.

"Don't look for answers in the books he allowed to stay on the shelves," Chiro whispered. "Look for the things he tried to burn. The Dark Mother isn't just a legend, Amaya. She’s the root. And you and I? We’re the branches that refused to grow straight."

As he spoke, a sudden, vivid image flashed in my mind—a silver locket, a weeping angel, and a mortal man with eyes like mine. The vision was so sharp it made my head throb, a precognitive spike that left me breathless.

"What was that?" I gasped, clutching the edge of the table.

Chiro’s expression turned solemn. "The beginning of the truth. Stay close to me, Amaya Janice. We’re going to give the Headmaster exactly what he’s afraid of."

I looked at Chiro, this shunned, beautiful creature, and felt a new kind of fire ignite in my chest. I wasn't just a pharmacist. I wasn't just a pet. I was a catalyst. And the storm was finally here.
