Chang is a flair

Chang is a flair
Jessica's POV.

The ringing in my ear and the foggy room reminded me of how our previous escape began. At first, it felt like I was in a dream I hardly recovered from. But everything was real. Except this time around, I was the one that checked in on David and not the other way round.

“David! David!!” I yelled putting an handkerchief all over my nose and mouth coughing into it. I crawled with my two legs and one hand reaching towards him.

His body was hard to turn but I succeeded in do so. I used my two hands to shake his bloody face but that didn't seem to work. Bullets began flying all over the place. I knew I had to wake David up before the unknown enemy came to finish off what was left of us.

He would have carried me if I was the one in his situation. But there was no way I could do that. Since shaking him didn't do the trick, I slapped him hard and he work up immediately.

He screamed as he got up and I immediately covered his mouth to protect our location from being revealed.

I tore a bit of my clothing and cleaned up his blood, an action that took several muffled groans out of him. There was something that was a little bit different about him. He had gone soft. It's hard to believe that maybe he has been living a peaceful life ever since we parted ways and that made him soft.

“I have no idea what's going on, David. But we need to get to a safe place before something bad happens to us.” I whispered in a soft and non-rushing tone still covering his mouth.

His breath was still heavy with the promise of death to his attacker. He nodded in agreement and I found myself helping him up from the floor.

On standing up, he dropped to one knee instantly with the other leg revealing the shard of glass on his leg.

I had seen David in pain before, but notrhus so much pain and for once, I see the vulnerability in his tearful eyes.

All that I accused him of doing didn't seem to matter anymore as getting him to safety was my top priority.

I tore off another part of my dress. A bigger part laid down on the floor ready as soon as I pull the glass out. There was no first aid kit around so I had to go the traditional way which was more painful.

With the glass still in his trembling legs, I looked into his eyes told him, “David, I want you to look into my eyes. This is gonna hurt so bad, but it's okay because I'm here with you and we'll get through this pain together.”

Tears rolled down his face that trembled for the anticipated pain he was about to face. As I touched the glass that was inside him, he held on tight to my shoulder. As I pulled it out slowly, be growled, trying to be as silent as possible. But his pain betrayed him. Knowing that the noise would expose us, I dug my mouth into his, giving him something else think of rather than the pain.

His trembled lips stood still and sucked every pleasure out of my mouth. As he dug into the kiss, I opened my eyes to see tears rolling down his face and my eyes darted to the shard of glass totally in my hand leaving a pool of blood on the carpet.

I grabbed the piece of cloth I tore earlier on and tied it round his leg. He flinched a little but took the pain like the man I once knew.

His eyes asked a million questions as to how I kissed him but my dismissal question advised him that the matter would be addressed later.

“Do you have a gun?”

“No.” His let out his actual voice still laced with pain.

“Okay.” I paced round he room looking for an object that would lead us to a car that would lead us to safely. I picked on fast and I knew David would probably have a private house somewhere.

The expression on his face asked a lot of questions. Questions that couldn't wait for a second more.

“How did you…?”

Before he could answer, I cut off, “I identity as a strong and independent woman now. I do everything myself now.”

His loud giggle reignited a thought that came at the wrong time. There was a chance that we were going to get back together.

I gave David a glass of whiskey to use to defend himself. There was a sword previous used as an ornament on my hand. He protested as to why I got the sword and he got the bottle.

“I'm stronger than you right now and I'm pretty sure even I can take you down on my own.”

He didn't fight me but listened to every word I said. I helped him up and we exited the room with his limping slowing down the pace. We made it theou the first two rooms and there were no signs of trouble. The firing seemed to have stop and this made the whole house quiet.

The silence became a tool we used to navigate our way through the house. Wherever noise was, we ran towards the opposite direction. The garage seemed to be free from people. At first, it seemed like a trap but after several surveys from where we stood, the coast was clear.

As David handed me the car keys, he protested and offered to go first in case there was danger. But I brushed him off leaving no room for discussion or opposition. As I exposed myself to the garage, I realized that the tires were slashed. This was when it dawned on me. The main motive was to trap and kill us. Normally, I would have been scared of everything laid in front of me but I had to be strong for David and myself.

As I reached the third car, a figure revealed himself from the mirror. I turned back to see a man pointing a gun towards me. I raised my two hands up with my other hand clinging to my sword. David slowly came from behind and smashed the bottle on his head with the smell of alcohol flooding the garage.

Immediately, he fell straight towards my side and I tiptoed back hitting the sword on my hand on his head to ensure that he stayed passed out.

A bike rode in with its noise covering the whole garage. I immediately moved in front of David waving the sword like I had an idea what to do with it.

The helmet of the rider was removed and the person revealed himself to be Henry who looked in a worse state than David did.

“I had to fight to get this bike. You guys should go.” He handed the helmet over to me.

“What about you I asked?” His face still bleeding.

“I'll be fine. Get him to safety.”

“Thank you.” I mouthed. A goodbye that I wasn't certain of.

I almost forgot how to ride a bike but as I got the hang of it, David got on it holding on tight to me.

We both looked down wondering if Henry and the rest of the guys were okay. One thing was certain, the old David was coming back and with me by his side, we're goi
ng to figure out who is trying to kill us and we would end them together.
