Damon
Since the beginning of time, the underworld has always been a place of shadows and secrets. My name is Damian, and I am one of the guardians of this dark domain. While many fear our world, few understand its complexity and the power plays that define it. Today, as I prepare to protect Aurora, I remember how I came to this position and the promises I made to ensure her destiny.
The underworld is not just a realm of lost souls and power-hungry demons; it is a reflection of human ambitions and fears. Our existence is sustained by the pacts made by those seeking power beyond mortality. My role is to ensure that these pacts are fulfilled and, in some cases, to protect those who are essential to the balance between worlds.
Aurora is one of those people. Destined to be the queen of the underworld, she does not yet know the power she carries. She was born with the mark, a sign that appears only every hundred years. The last time I had a destined one, she was killed by the shadows. My duty, my destiny, is to ensure that Aurora reaches her rightful place. But this is no easy task.
In the shadowy corridors of the underworld, politics is as complex as in the world of the living, if not more so. Every demon, every entity, has its own goals, alliances, and betrayals. Aurora's ascension to the throne is not welcomed by all. There are those who prefer to maintain the status quo, those who fear the change she will bring.
My own role is complicated. I was designated as her protector, but I also carry the burden of my own ambition and the promises I made. Being a demon does not mean being immune to moral dilemmas, and the line between duty and desire is thin.
Aurora has been destined to me since her birth. I have always watched her, from her first steps to her first words. I knew that one day she would play a crucial role in the underworld, but I had to keep my distance, intervening only when necessary. Her father, a man desperate for power, sealed her fate by making the pact. He sought protection for her, but ironically put her in even greater danger.
While I protect Aurora in the world of the living, threats from the underworld are closing in. Other entities, aware of her potential, are moving against her. Assassins, shadows, and demons hungry for the power she will one day possess. Each passing day is a game of cat and mouse, a delicate balance between keeping her ignorant of her destiny for her own safety and preparing her for the challenges she will inevitably face.
Yesterday, I found a shadow lurking near Aurora's house. Its intentions were clear. I quickly eliminated the threat, but soon learned of her father's death. Of course, he had his vices, but the shadow influenced his overdose. It was a warning, a move by our enemies to destabilize her.
The smartest move now is to bring Aurora and Sol under my protection. My house is fortified with ancient enchantments and guardians that obey only me. There, I can train her, even subtly, for what is to come. Each lesson, each word of advice will be given with the intent of preparing her, even if she does not fully understand yet.
I looked out the window, the city outside a sea of twinkling lights. Each of those lights represented a life, a destiny. But no destiny was as crucial as Aurora's. If she fails, the underworld will fall into chaos, and the balance between our worlds will be destroyed.
I cannot let that happen. I will not let that happen.
My journey as a guardian began centuries ago, but the most significant moment was the fall of my predecessor. He was strong, cunning, but underestimated the enemies within his own ranks. I remember watching him being betrayed, his last words a warning to me.
“Trust few, Damian,” he said, blood pouring from his mouth. “And protect the key to the future of the underworld at all costs.”
Those words were etched into my mind, a constant reminder of the responsibility I carried. I swore that day that I would not make the same mistakes. I would be ruthless but fair. And above all, I would ensure that Aurora reached her destiny.
The first thing I did upon returning to my apartment was to reinforce the protections. I called upon old allies, demons of trust who owed me favors. They arrived in silence, shadows sliding along the walls, their forms barely visible in the dim candlelight.
“She is in constant danger,” I said, my voice firm. “I need you to reinforce the enchantments and ensure that nothing unwanted gets in here.”
They nodded, immediately beginning their work. I watched, feeling the familiar tension of always being on guard. There was a strange comfort in the routine of preparation, a sense that, at least for now, I had some control over fate.
I knew that having Aurora and Sol in my house would not only increase their safety but also facilitate my vigilance against other threats. I had allies and resources in the underworld, but also many enemies.
As I arranged a room for Sol, I remembered my true mission: to protect Aurora at all costs. She did not know it, but she was destined to be the queen of the underworld, my partner in the reign to come. Other demons and shadow beings were aware of her potential and would do everything to prevent her ascension.
I looked out the window again, the city's lights twinkling like artificial stars. I knew I needed to be smart, quick, and ruthless. There was much more at stake than Aurora and Sol could imagine. And I was determined to ensure she survived to discover her true destiny.
In that moment, I made a silent promise. I would protect that happiness, that innocence, even if it meant sacrificing everything.
The mission is clear, but the path is nebulous. Each step I take must be calculated, each decision made with awareness of the repercussions. The underworld awaits its queen, and I am the shadow that will ensure she reaches her throne.
As the shadows deepen and the enemies draw closer, I remember the words of my predecessor. “Trust few, Damian.” And so, I will trust only in my own strength and the determination to see Aurora safe and ready for her destiny.
I will not fail. For Aurora, for Sol, and for the balance of our worlds.
