Chapter 29
I gave a light chuckle, “we haven’t met but I’m sure you do. Daeva” I said, reaching my hand out to her. Her eyes went a little wide and looked to Devland for confirmation, and I rolled my eyes at that. “Amara,” she said with a curtsy, “it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m sure you have business to attend to. Devland, I hope you’ll join me after?” She said, turning her attention back to him. “It has been ten years since I have, Amara, so please stop asking. It is up to Daeva here if I do, and it doesn’t look like she’s inclined. So again, no.” I couldn’t help the little smirk that played on my lips. It certainly helped keep my angel under control. “Ah. Fate is cruel isn’t it.” She said, giving him a sad smile. I cocked my head at her and took a step closer. “Say what you want then, Amara.” She finally let a little nervousness play in her eyes and I knew that mine were swirling by the way that she looked at me. “Well, it is widely known that he prefers angels and that you are mostly demon.. I just thought..” I let out another chuckle, “I would advise you against thinking at all in the future. Especially about me, and even more importantly, about him. If there is ever a time that my angel can’t satisfy him, I’ll be sure to give you a call. Until then, I suggest you stop trying my patience.” She looked at him but he was looking at me. She just nodded and stormed off to a booth filled with demons.
“I didn’t think that you would be a jealous one,” he said, giving me a satisfied laugh. “We’ve both had partners in the past, but I’m not going to have any of them think that they’re entitled to you now.” I said, giving him a playful glare. “Are there any more that I should be worried about?” I asked. “None that act like that. She is the only entitled one. The rest of them knew what it was and accepted it and some are even friends now. There are a few humans but none of them hang around for long.” He shrugged again but leaned down to whisper in my neck “I’ll bring them back though, if I get to watch that again.” I gave an uncharacteristic giggle as we sat down. He waved at the bartender and ordered a few bottles for each of us and I turned towards him a bit. “Ok, another confession.. I thought that you never.. Indulged in women and alcohol.” He laughed at me a little more. “I kept up appearances. I figured that if everyone thought that one of us was leading and following the rules, it would allow you all to have more fun. Roo is the only one that really knew the extent of what I was into.” I laughed but felt a little bad for believing all of it. “Well, I am sorry that I said you had a stick up your ass” I said, giving him a playful wink.
It was already close to midnight but we stayed to talk and drink for another few hours before heading back up to his suite. I certainly learned a lot about him just from being in his bar for a few hours. His staff seemed to adore him and he paid almost exactly the same as I did, apparently that was on purpose as well, so that neither of us were in competition. He was a good boss but did not tolerate fights. He also had a few women come up to him throughout the night, I was not expecting that. They were all a lot nicer and seeing that I was there they immediately backed off. “Here I was thinking that I was going to have to share you” Devland had laughed at one point. I told him that I usually wasn’t jealous but I would lose my cool if someone touched him for the time being. We agreed to open up the possibility later on but right now, neither of us were allowing it.
We took a bottle each with us back to the suite and settled in for the night. Tomorrow we were going to train a bit and talk with some of the angels and demons in town while we were here. It was a great night and ended with even more sex, making it even better. He fell asleep before me for the first time and I couldn’t help but admire him for a few minutes. He was absolutely perfect, I couldn’t find a flaw with him, even if I tried. The closest thing that could be a flaw was a scar on the left side of his cheek almost running down his jaw line, but I even liked that. He was letting his angel and demon side run equally recently and was embracing both of mine. I wasn’t used to being loved and comforted but he made an effort to do both. If there wasn’t an impending apocalypse, I would say that this is the happiest that I’ve ever been. He might be a little overbearing and cheesy sometimes, but I was starting to love that too. I had been trying to find a time to tell him that I loved him since he had said it the last time, but I wasn’t used to it.
I finally drifted off to sleep but not before laying there contemplating life for a few hours. I woke up and moved a little closer to the man beside me, burying my head in his chest as he gripped me tight. Wait a minute. My eyes shot open and I looked up at Devland. “Holy shit.” I said. He looked terrified and happy at the same time, looking at me like a ticking time bomb. “You’re awake…” He said softly as if he couldn’t believe it either. I was still trying to wrap my head around what just happened. I remembered having my usual dreams but they went away and I was able to get more sleep… Then I just woke up? For hundreds of years I have been putting up with these dreams, nothing fixed them ever, until him. “How did you do that?” I asked him. “I didn’t.. Well, I felt you starting to stir and I pulled you closer but you weren’t struggling as much so I just talked to you and you relaxed. Then you woke up. I’m not even sure what I said.”
He was still looking at me surprised but I could tell that a part of him wanted to celebrate. I was going over and over my dreams from last night and nothing seemed to change except for how I reacted to them. My angel didn’t seem to hide in the dream and my demon side wasn’t fighting. It was like I finally realized that it was a dream and just let it play out. I should have been celebrating with him, but it felt strange. I was so used to it, it had become a part of me in a weird messed up way. I had given up trying to fix it and just came to terms with it, and now I could sleep and wake up. What if they came back? If I wasn’t with him, would I go back to the way it was? Devland saw my eyes swirling and pulled me out of my head. “Hey, it might have just been today, or maybe it’s something else. Don’t think about it too much. We’ll take it day by day. I‘m just happy to see you peaceful this morning.” He gave me a kiss on the forehead and I relaxed against him. I’m not sure that there could be a time that I meant it more, so I told him: “I love you.”
