Chapter 13

*Devlands POV*

I would lay souls down in a bet that Daeva has never been comforted. The fact nearly broke me. Once she fell back to sleep in my arms I fell into a light sleep beside her. She was a perfect mess. I woke to her shaking in my arms. My angel took over and tried comforting her but that made things much much worse. She was full on fighting me in her sleep and me being an angel seemed to piss her off even more.

How is she so damn strong sleeping? I finally got her pinned under me but I was sweating trying to keep her demon in control. I did something rare for me and let my own demon come out. Hers started to calm after a while, since I wasn't as much of an angel and she finalyl started to wake up and her screaming calmed a bit. I was whispering to her demon in French when she finally woke all of the way up. I felt her stiffen then almost immediately relax against me.

I was covered in both of our sweat and my demon was ready to take hers, so it let it. After three rounds of the roughest sex in my life and three times the position changes we laid back down panting on each other. I forced her back into my arms, now that my angel was back in control, I needed this more than she did. We laid there for a few moments in silence, her with her eyes closed and me watching her.

“I’m sorry” I whispered. Her eyes shot open. “For what?” She asked, surprised. “That was great, I should be apologizing to you for knocking your head on the post.” I let out another laugh, but I didn’t mind that a bit, though it did dent the metal. “No, you’re free to abuse me like that as much as you can. But I am sorry about your dreams. You should not have had to endure that alone.” I said. She took a deep breath and moved her hand closer to mine. We still weren’t touching, but I took it as a good sign. “It’s not your fault I was taken, nor was it your fault that I waited. You have nothing to apologize for.”

She has to hold some kind of grudge against me. I left her there. “Still. You endured it alone. You even escaped on your own." I thought for a moment about if I wanted to tell her I tried to get her or not but I didn't want to seem like I was making excuses for my absense. I sighed and decided to tell her anyways. "I tried to come to you as soon as I heard. Lucifer was one of the few at the time to know of your powers though and insisted I stay where I was, and it was the longest two days of my existence. He sent me away the day you arrived even, so I never got to say it. It is my only true regret.

That I wasn’t there during or after.. But I suppose it also became the reason that you are the most trusted and feared of us all.” After my apology that I couldn’t hold in any longer she was silent for a few minutes. I’m not afraid of silence so I didn’t mind.

“It’s not that I blamed you. But I can’t say that I didn’t hold a grudge for a while, at least. Also, it wasn’t two days. It was 8." She still wouldn't look at me. "I don't think you want to hear what they didn't tell you" she shook her head and closed her eyes. "I really do, if you'll tell me" I said as gently as I could. She took another deep breath and continues. "The first 2 they beat me unconscious any time I woke until they had me secured.

The only reason anyone knew I was missing was because they missed your message. I’m sure they only let you believe that it was two to keep the rest from storming the gates before I got the information I needed.” She took a deep breath again before continuing. “At least now I know why I didn’t have help escaping. Hey I got cool new wings out of it anyways, along with some upgrades so it all worked out.

I’m sure the flash backs will fade in a few thousand more years.” She laughed a hollow laugh before turning to face me. She put her hand on my chest “this isn’t on you” she said. “You are not responsible, I am. I will not accept your pity. I have handled myself so far and will continue doing so… but I do appreciate you saying that.” I would have never obeyed orders if I knew it had been 8 days, I couldn't imagine was she had been through. I could tell that was all that she wanted to say on the subject so I pulled her into another kiss.

I was gentle this time, honestly more afraid of her telling me to get out than hurting her. “Wait” she pushed away. Damn it. “How did you get my demon to calm down? It doesn’t like angels, and my angel even less so in that state.” I sighed. “I figured that out after the first few blows. I let my demon lead after that. Yours likes it when I speak French apparently” I said winking up at her putting my arms under my head. “You didn’t tell me to leave this time, so I slept. I was hoping I could help, now that I know I can, I hope you’ll let me pin you to the bed more often.”

I winked at her again. “Besides, your demon really liked some of the ideas I had for your body. And I can’t disappoint now, can I?” She blushed as I was finishing. When I was calming her demon today, the mention of sex and humans were working the most, and the French helped. When I told her I wouldn’t let anyone touch her without my permission there was conflict. So I talked about her touching others. I used her love of redheads to help me and by the time she woke up fully I had turned myself on too much to stop. Thankfully, it all worked and the day is turning out better than I expected.

After our talk that had me on cloud nine, Daeva got up to shower. I perked up but was quickly denied being told she was already late. I waited on her bed like a lovesick puppy until she was done. She came out, her curls already scrunching back up and exploding around her face. She might be crazy but she is perfect. She looked at me with amusement in her eyes before walking to her closet. “So my love, I will see you tonight at the bar.” A few clothes flew out of the closet before she stepped out. She definitely isn’t like human females, she spent no time deciding what she wanted to wear. “Tonight will be our first and last official meeting this month, but we will see them all soon. Until then, we can… text. While you help me with our part of the plan.” She laughed at my texting comment.

It’s not my preferred method but it is theirs. ‘Ya know, modern technology’ as my love so eloquently said. “I will be there, but I have a business to run until then,” she said, slipping into her light blue suit pants and black satin dress shirt. She buttoned into her signature suspenders but this time it was a light blue to match her pants. I couldn’t help but grin up at her, she matched my eyes.

She looked at me confused for a moment and then blushed. I loved that color on her. “I’m not changing.” I cut her off with another kiss before she could say anything else. “I hope you don’t. I won’t mention it, except to say, it’s a good color on you.” Damn she looked good. “Ok I’m leaving now.” She said looking down at the floor. “The staff knows to get you whatever you want. Just make sure to tip.” As she closed the door behind us she grabbed my wrist. “Thanks.” She said, landing a kiss on my cheek.

I smirked down at her before pushing her into the wall and kissing her a proper goodbye. “My pleasure.” I said with a grin and let her go, she shuffled away without another word but I saw the smile she was holding back. I was starting to think that fates were wise with their choices and I would spend the rest of eternity thanking them.
