Chapter 85 Bang Alarm
Dante's POV
I jolted up from bed at that deafening sound. It was a sound I knew all too well.
“Dante, what happened?” I heard from beside me.
I was slightly dazed as I couldn't remember taking anyone in with me till I turned to spot Serena's weary morning face.
I looked around and realized I had slept in her room over the night. I must have shaken her as I jolted up.
But before I could offer any explanation, the loud bang came again, nearer this time.
I jumped out of the bed, threw on my shirt and jacket, just about buttoning the shirt up but that was it.
I crosschecked to ensure I had my guns with me and I bolted out of the room.
I rang a quick call Nico's way as I stepped into the elevator. He picked on the second ring.
“Don,” he croaked out.
I looked at the time and it read, 5:36 am.
He couldn't possibly have been sleeping by this time. But who am I kidding? I was sleeping too.
“The penthouse seems to be under attack,” I said hurriedly into the phone. “Hearing gunshots outside and on my way to check it out.”
“I'll get some men and be there in five,” he replied and I hung up.
I had the feeling to call up Shaun and his men, but I instinctively kicked against it as I didn't want to jinx our new found luck.
By the time I reached the ground floor, a few of the guards on ground were already hanging around the entrance in alert.
I took a deep breath as there were not more than 10 men, what could I possibly do with them.
Upon seeing me, the lead guard stepped towards me.
“It seems Luca came with some of his men,” he said.
“What is he doing?” I asked.
“Been shooting into the air, almost like he's sending warnings,” he replied.
I shook my head. “Or calling me out.”
“What do we do, boss?” He asked.
I thought for a minute.
“Take your men out through the back door and flank around while I step out to meet him,” I replied.
“Boss, that's dangerous. He can shoot you down at any point,” he remarked.
“You asked what you should do, right? Now I've told you what to do,” I said firmly. “Besides, if he wanted us dead, he would have been firing at us directly.”
The guard nodded his head and gathered his men to move out through the back door.
I took another deep breath and stepped out through the front door.
Upon seeing him sitting on the bonnet of a large jeep, I threw my hands into the air stopping beside a car parked sideways.
“Luca, what’s got you disturbing my peace this early morning,” I exclaimed.
Luca jumped off the bonnet and made.his way slowly towards me.
“You know what you did, Dante,” he said with his two hands pointed at me. His men behind him raised their guns at me.
“I've done many things, Luca. You gotta be more specific,” I replied bluntly.
“Don't play games with me, Dante,” he slurred in a dangerous tone as he got close to where I stood.
“I thought that was your only purpose, playing games,” I shot back.
Luca stopped and smiled, then developed into a full blown laugh before stealing a small slap across my face.
It was more of a flick of his hand against my face, but it was enough to irritate me.
I stepped forward immediately, aiming for him then his men behind me cocked their guns in unison.
I stopped, realizing I would be dead before laying a hand on him.
The sight amused Luca who kept laughing like someone had dropped a joke.
He laughed and doubled over, clutching his tummy.
The sight irritated me the more, pushing me to snap his neck in two.
“Did you see your face?” He asked between laughs, stomping his feet in the process.
“You were like,” he started, then did some sort of gimmick of my face. “Then you were like,” he continued, doing another ugly gimmick before doubling over with laughter again.
“Stop being silly!” I yelled.
He kept laughing though, ignoring anything I had to say.
I folded my fists but held myself back, a conversation with Luca always ticked off my nerves.
Even when Marco was alive and we passed deals through each other, conversing with Luca always got me angry.
He never seemed to have any form of respect or sense.
After a while, he finally calmed down. “Oh my goodness, that was a good laugh. If anything, I could spare your life for making me laugh that hard.”
I refrained from laughing, myself. He really felt he had the power to end me, but I just had to say it.
“You really feel you are in control, don't you?” I asked.
He chuckled, but didn't last long this time around. Good heavens.
“Oh Dante, I could drop down and suck your dick right now. Then take a few snaps and send them over to Serena to show her how much of a good time we're having,” he replied.
A shiver ran through my body. I don't know what's worse about that, the fact that he's a guy, or the fact that he could actually attempt it.
He then took a step towards me and I instinctively took one back.
“Don't come near me, you animal,” I warned.
He laughed again, shaking his head.
“It's for the best, don't want that gue on me anyway,” he replied with a smirk.
Another shiver ran through me at the mere thought of it. No way am I letting him close to me.
“What the fuck do you want, Luca?” I asked, raising my hand in the air. “If it's a fight you want, then let's get on with it. Won't want to believe you disturbed me this morning to chit chat,” I added.
Luca waved a hand dismissively at me.
“Don't flatter yourself, Dante. If I wanted you dead, I would have had this whole structure in flames with you in it. Just like you did to my men,” he said the last part with a wicked smirk.
I shrugged and flicked my head to the side, but before I could say anything, he beat me to it.
“I mean, who sleeps the same night after burning down another man's house. I expected more from you, Dante,” he added in a mocking tone.
I glared at him. “So what do you want?” I said through gritted teeth.
Luca smiled with his head to the side, then dropped the smile suddenly before nearly getting into my face.
