Chapter 78 Old Connections
Dante's POV
It wasn't the first time I had ever dished out a speech of such, for a matter of such.
But this one felt different, like there was a different energy about it.
“Arghh!!” The men yelled in unison with their various raised to the air and quickly dispersed into the waiting cars.
I jumped down and tapped Shaun by the shoulder. All the anger from earlier had melted away quickly.
Now? Now I was faced with reality. Now, I had to lead them as one.
We marched together towards our designated ride as we both moved together.
This wasn't the first time I was leading men out for a war. It wasn't even the tenth time in my short reign.
But this was particularly different as unlike other cases, in this case, it's not a crowd.
I've taken hundreds and thousands to battle. But fifty? That's a new low. If this doesn't go our way, we are fucked.
The driver needed no further invitation to kick the car to drive and zoom out.
Barely thirty minutes later, we arrived at the targeted spot.
We quickly slotted ourselves into favourable hiding spots, waiting for the right time to strike.
Luca was out delivering drugs to a ceremony over 3 hours drive from here. It's safe to say he wouldn't be making an appearance anytime soon.
But we still had to be careful, we weren't sure of the defences Luca left behind.
Shaun picked up a binoculars and zoomed in on the small storehouse.
“Boss, they look to be arranging up the place. I feel our best time will be at the change of shift time,” he announced.
“Let's wait it out,” I replied.
And we remained there for what felt like an hour.
Then Shaun picked up the binoculars again and took a look lazily. He then sat up immediately and peered closer.
I was alerted by his sudden shift and immediately asked, “what's going on?”
“It's time,” he simply replied.
I took the instrument from him and took a look. A few of the men had begun leaving and new ones were arriving.
“It's time,” I repeated.
I dropped the instrument and immediately stepped out with Shaun following closely.
The rest of the men stepped out too and gathered around me.
“Men,” I called out in a hushed voice. “It's time to defend our honour,” I added.
“We'll go in groups,” I continued. “Three groups attacking from east, west, and south,” I explained.
Shaun then stepped forward and began arranging them with signals.
“Whoever is left should fix themselves into a group,” I added.
One of the men whispered to Shaun and he nodded before leaning over to me. “Are we to take anything from them?” He asked.
I gave the man who had whispered to Shaun a hard look before stepping further for them to hear me.
“Listen up, we didn't come here to steal from Luca. We came to burn this shit to the ground. Don't take a dime from there,” I said, pointing at the store.
“And if you disobey this instruction, if any dares take anything from Luca, I'll personally put a bullet in his head before Luca can,” I added firmly.
They all nodded.
“Good. Now, file out. Shaun and I will come in straight from the middle,” I instructed.
The men moved immediately, maneuvering through the dark and positioning themselves at each point.
I knew they were watching, so I signaled to them to move in.
They began slowly, crawling and sneaking towards the store. Then as they got closer, they easily shot down anyone in their way.
I motioned to Shaun and we began our march down the middle. Time to burn this shit down.
As we got closer, three men were talking about themselves. Shaun gunned down one and I took two down in two quick strikes.
By now, Luca's men had noticed our intrusion and began to retreat.
The men from each side were closing in on the store while Shaun and I moved quickly.
Luca's men began shooting back, I ducked under a car shooting and missing but creating the distraction for Shaun to silence the shooter.
I nodded in his direction while getting up. We've always had some sort of connection, that's probably why I put him in charge.
A few others began shooting back at us before I could gather myself. We took cover under the same car.
I signaled to him to go one way while I went the other.
We crawled to our sides and took position. I first shot at one's leg and Shaun finished him.
The others began retreating but still firing. I fired straight into another's leg and Shaun finished him off again.
By now, they were getting closer to the entrance and looked more interested in running than shooting.
That was our cue and we hurried out, taking our stance and firing at them before walking towards them.
We kept firing and at this point, they barely returned fire till we took them all down.
A bullet from behind me struck the wall not far from me.
I turned immediately to see an incoming vehicle with a hand stuck out.
“Move!” I yelled to Shaun who ran the other way while I took the other side.
The shooter chose me and maintained fire at me while one other opened towards Shaun.
I went behind whatever it was and fired carefully at them.
The driver came in my direction while the shooter maintained fire.
I looked up and noticed that I was behind something that looked like a large pole. The electricity pole.
I thought quickly, pulling out another gun with my other hand and aiming for the other end of the wires on a pole across from the one I was behind.
I shot at the wires which cut immediately and came crashing into the rushing car.
The heavy wires nearly tumbled the car but only managed to shift it off course.
The wires immediately began sparking and threatening to grow into flames.
The men behind the wheels rushed out and I stepped out from behind the pole and took aim at all them, firing them all down with a bullet each.
I turned in time to find Shaun finishing off another set and we set our sights back on the store, our men too were finishing off Luca's men.
Then… a wild sinister idea popped up in my head.
