Chapter 116 After Crash

Chapter 116 After Crash
Serena's POV

I froze for a split second, as all my senses flashed away, save for my eyes that kept staring at those small holes popping open on the side of the van.

Time seemed to slow down as the world narrowed down to that horrifying sight.

My mind kept screaming at me to duck, but my body sat locked in place.

The driver didn't hesitate though, he spun the wheel hard to the left as the tires scratched roughly against the sand.

The car lurched so violently that I slammed into the door with my shoulder taking the hard part of it.

And the bullets that would have probably landed on me, tore through the back of the car and where we'd been a second ago.

“Hold on!" He shouted as he swerved the car left to right, avoiding trees and trying to get into a straight route.

I grabbed the door handle for dear life with all I had as my knuckles turned white. Despite everything, Dante was already making his way out through the broken glass.

He popped his gun out and fired back at the van while holding onto the top for any form of support.

Nico did the same from the front seat but without that much stress. I turned to see what effect it had but nearly grimaced as the van barely slowed down.

They didn't give up, they swerved after us fast with the sound of their engine covering the bullet strikes.

They closed the gap faster than I thought they could possibly do as their bullets flashed by my side, taking off the side mirror.

"They're gaining!" I yelled as loudly as I could even with the panicking pain in my chest.

I twisted in my seat to look back through the shattered rear window.

"Stay down!" Dante barked then his free hand pushed my head low as he leaned out further.

He fired off more rounds as I heard their bullets crashing into the door by my side.

I couldn't keep my head down and lifted it as his hand slid off my head. I watched as his bullets struck their glass.

But it didn't budge, they kept coming, crashing through trees and kicking up dust clouds that filled the air behind us.

But our driver moved like a pro, dodging trees and roots in the woods path as the car bounced hard over the rough ground, pushing us around like ragdolls.

I bit my bottom lip accidentally with another bump as my stomach flipped as we nearly ran into a thick trunk.

“I can't shake 'em off!" He grunted, glancing back through the rearview.

Nico reloaded quickly and fired back again, wasting no time as he aimed for their tires.

A lucky shot hit one but it barely had any effect, the van swerved sharply once but turned back on our tail immediately.

"Tough bastards," I heard him mutter from in front.

Dante cursed under his breath as beads of sweat formed over his forehead. "Keep going, find an opening!"

But the firing only got worse as it rampaged into the car, hammering the car's back.

One punched through the back window and nearly hit Dante as glass shattered around us, cutting my arm as I ducked lower.

I screamed as warm blood flowed from the cut and trickled down my hands, sticking my shirt to my body.

"Serena, stay low!" Dante yelled, twisting to cover me better with his body as a shield but still firing over my head.

The car kept swerving from side to side before it slowed dramatically.

“Shit!” The driver cursed as he tried to get the car back into motion, but he wasn't fast enough.

I looked up in time as the van stood directly by our side, and we all knew what was coming next.

“Duck!” Dante yelled and jumped over me as we went low.

The car kept moving till it started swerving too wildly and out of control.

“What the fuck!” Dante yelled as we nearly fell to the ground, turning violently to each side the car moved against.

“Shit!” Nico yelled. “He's been hit!”

“Get the wheel!" Dante shouted as he tried to get himself to any reasonable position. I looked up as much as I could and spotted the driver's head hanging back with blood flowing from it onto the seat.

I gagged and puked on the floor as the swerving got to me, coupled with the sight of his bloodied head.

Nico had a hand over the wheel now but the car still swerved violently as the firing died down till it seized.

Before I knew anything, we crashed into a thick trunk and the car jerked violently.

The impact slammed me forward as I had no seatbelt on. I crashed into the front chair badly and began seeing stars.

I felt I had been knocked out as I laid in my own puke now, but I slowly regained

My head spun violently as my vision grew blurry, and I coughed violently, trying to get myself up.

"Dante? Nico?" I choked out.

Dante groaned beside me. "Let's get out of here now,” he said and reached for my hand.

I heard a door being kicked open before I opened my eyes better to see Dante kicking his open.

He dragged me out and I crashed onto the floor with my eyes open, breathing hard from the crash. My head hurt bitterly and I tasted blood between my teeth.

Nico and Dante dragged themselves to their feet and stared at the driver.

"He's gone. Let's move,” Dante muttered.

He helped me up to my feet as I staggered on shaky legs, Dante pulled me to the back of a fallen log, keeping me there for cover.

Nico joined him in front of me with his gun up. The van stopped a distance away after a few minutes and the doors opened slowly.

Three figures stalked out slowly with their massive guns raised.

Dante took a step back at me before checking his gun. "Stay down, Serena, we'll hold 'em,” he muttered.

“Hand the girl over, Mr. Russo,” one of them said. “We don't mean any harm,” he said with his hands raised.

“Stay back,” Dante muttered as he looked dazed.

“Suit yourself,” the guy shrugged and stepped closer.

They were covered from head to toe and something told me guns would do little to nothing here.

Dante must have noticed as he stepped back towards me and whispered, “when I tell you to run, run.”

“Who sent you?” He asked as they got closer.

“We know,” one answered as they got really close.

“Serena, run!” Dante yelled as they got too close.

But just as I turned to move, a barrel greeted my eyes.
