Chapter 101 Busted!

Chapter 101 Busted!
Dante's POV

I paused just a few metres from the door, stopping at his words.

I turned at his words to find him standing awkwardly at the side of the desk.

“What is it?” I asked gently.

He nodded his head, then gestured to me to come closer.

“I don't know who works for Luca, I have no idea who feeds him the information he gets, but we need to be careful,” he muttered.

“I understand, what is it I need to see?” I asked.

He walked over to the locker and leaned down, pulling open the drawer and shuffling through the papers.

“The elder once informed me of some files he never wanted to get into the wrong hands, and with all indications so far, Luca is more than a wrong hand,” he explained as he closed the first locker and opened the other.

He searched through it quickly before checking the third and finally paused midway through the search.

I watched as he pulled out a bunch of papers that resembled a scroll.

“Here,” he exclaimed, lifting it up.

I nodded carefully. “What's in it?” I asked.

“I don't know, he never told me and I believe it's best that way,” he muttered, handing over the bundle to me.

I size it up in my hand after taking it, turning it from left to right.

“Don't bother opening it up here, just take it home with you,” he instructed and I nodded.

I handed it over to Not and nodded in appreciation towards the man.

“I'm sorry again for the loss, I wish it never had to be. You can always count on the Russo family at any time, I pledge our support to you,” I said.

He nodded and stretched forth a hand which I took in a handshake.

“I know Luca will soon be crowned as the family head, but the Moretti family will always be your second home,” he pledged.

I nodded my head and bowed in respect.

“Be nice to the receptionist on your way out,” he joked as we separated hands and I stepped back.

I chuckled at his remark. “I'll try,” I replied with a smile even though I knew it was a lie.

Nico and I walked out of the office after a brief exchange between Nico and Sylvester.

We made our way back to the reception.

“Have a lovely day, Mr. Russo,” the receptionist chimed from behind the counter and I completely ignored her.

“Greet her for me!” She added as we reached the exit.

“Doesn't she quit?” I muttered as Nico chuckled.

“It seems she has a crush on you,” Nico replied as we reached the security.

I turned to find her still staring at me, when our eyes met, she waved excitedly at me.

I shook my head but shrugged still. “If times were different, I probably would have hit her,” I admitted.

We reached where the guards that searched us were still standing.

I gave them each a hard stare as I passed by and most couldn't meet my eyes except for a few braver ones.

“You mean if Serena wasn't around,” Nico accused as stepped out of the building.

“Serena has nothing to do with this,” I muttered.

Nico laughed, clearly not believing me.

We made our way back to the car where the driver had been waiting for us.

“Whatever you say, Don,” he muttered as we got to the car.

I looked around at the security, the crowd seemed to have doubled up from the morning time.

Must really mean a lot to them.

I took one glance at them and turned into the car.

The driver hit the drive and we were out in a short while.

We made our way slowly through the crowd, and the general who had greeted us earlier saluted me as we drove by.

I ignored him still, wondering why he was acting like he didn't know what he'd done.

By the time we hit the road, the driver kicked into a high gear and we zoomed off.

I watched as the streets had emptied from earlier with people going about their normal lives now.

We had just about reached the boundary to exit the Moretti territory when my phone rang.

I picked it gently, placing the phone to my ear as it was one of our guards that watched the parameters around the penthouse.

He quickly muttered everything he had to say and I sat up immediately when I heard her name.

That little bitch.

“Do you know where?!” I yelled into the phone.

He gave me the location and I knew it very well.

I immediately ended the call, can't let this happen.

I searched for the number I needed and called immediately.

Serena's POV

She began shaking, stepping back immediately.

“Hey, Juliana. Relax, I just don't want anyone else to know, okay?” I muttered.

“I'm sorry, Sere— Mrs. Moretti, I can't help you with this,” she added, trying to walk away.

I grabbed her and she struggled slightly, but calmed down after she noticed it wasn't changing anything.

“Look, just help me show me the way, you can leave immediately. I just need help to get there,” I muttered pleadingly.

She looked to still want to resist.

“I'll be back before you know it,” I added. “And no one needs to know that you helped me. It's just between you and I,” I added.

She stared at me for a while. “You promise?” She asked softly.

I nodded gently. “I swear on my honour,” I added.

She nodded. “Let's go,” she muttered, looking around before leading me down the hallway.

I followed her all the way to a door at the far end of the corridor.

We ensured no one had seen us before she unlocked the door and signaled to me to follow her out.

We burst out to a place with waste bins lined up and the city beyond.

“Okay, there's a hospital not too far away,” she muttered as she led me out and kept looking around even though we had successfully left the house.

The plan remained the same: start a test, convince her to leave, take the test result just in case, and leave without looking back.

“Are you sure it's worth it?” I asked softly.

“Yeah, one of the best around,” she added.

She led me and it felt strange to walk the street without being paraded in a car.

It was the first time I had walked out on my own in nearly five years.

We got to the hospital barely ten minutes after we started moving, then I went through all the processes.

I paid for a test and dropped a blood sample.

While waiting, I turned to Juliana. “Thank you again for this, you don't know how much it means to me,” I said.

She nodded in response.

“But you can go now, so no one will notice your absence. I'll get the result and return home,” I added.

She looked skeptical. “Are you sure you can find your way home alone?” She asked.

“Certainly, don't worry about me. You've already done enough, I would be devastated if you get in trouble for me,” I replied.

She nodded and stood to leave.

As she walked out, I found myself itching for the result so I'd dash out before Dante could find out.

I immediately brought out my phone and texted the mystery number to tell it that I'd made my way outside alone now.

It didn't reply and as I waited for the test result, a nurse came over to me.

“Mrs. Moretti?” She called and I grimaced at the name.

“Yeah,” I responded, standing to my feet.

“The doctor wants to see you,” she added.

I moved immediately as I didn't come with anything besides my phone.

She led me to the doctor's office and I entered to find the doctor on call.

After I had sat down and she left, I leaned over on the table. “Yes, doctor. Can I get the test result now?” I asked hurriedly.

He stretched out a finger to stop me before lowering his phone and saying, “the call is for you.”

I swallowed, worried as to who would be calling me through him.

I hesitated but he pushed the phone towards me and I took it slowly.

I didn't even get to place the phone on my ear when I heard a booming voice.

“Come home now or you'll regret ever meeting me!”
