Chapter 301 Why Are You Back?

The words drifted into Charles' ears on the breeze, causing him to pause and turn towards the spotlight.

With just one glance, his tall frame froze in place.

Because under the spotlight, the pair chosen to dance the third dance were Grace and Milo!

Even though she had been chosen, Grace's mind was still blank.

She never expected that even while standing in a corner, the spotlight would find her!

The worst part was that she was eating dessert, holding a half-bitten treat, with crumbs still on her lips.

Compared to her bewilderment, Milo was much calmer.

He took the half-eaten dessert from her hand, wiped the crumbs from her lips, and whispered, "Since we've been chosen, let's face it calmly. Don't just stand there, the music's already playing."

Then, he extended his hand to her in a gentlemanly manner.

Grace had no choice. With everyone watching, she couldn't break the Adams family ball's rules. She placed her hand in Milo's and accepted the invitation.

Under the gaze of the crowd, Milo led her to the center of the dance floor.

As the soft music began, Grace felt a wave of nervousness.

Milo tightened his grip on her hand, placed his other hand on her waist, and whispered, "Don't be nervous, just follow my lead."

Grace nodded, took a deep breath, and smiled slightly, "Okay."

She rarely danced and was unfamiliar with the steps, but with Milo guiding her, her stiff movements went unnoticed.

The dance only lasted a few minutes; she just needed to get through it.

While Grace and Milo danced in the center of the floor, Ruby, sitting nearby, scowled and muttered, "Grace is so shameless! What a bitch!"

Kismet overheard her and curiously asked, "What's wrong? Do you know them?"

Ruby took a deep breath and revealed Grace's identity to Kismet, "Grace is Charles' ex-wife!"

Kismet was slightly surprised and instinctively turned to look at Flora.

Flora sat elegantly, a faint smile on her lips, watching Grace and Milo dance with interest.

Kismet turned back and said calmly, "Didn't she already divorce Mr. Montague? It's normal for her to dance with another man. Why are you cursing her?"

Ruby replied coldly, "I just don't like her. She doesn't deserve Charles."

After all, Milo was part of the Montague family, Olivia's grandson. If people found out he was involved with his brother's ex-wife, it could ruin the Montague family's reputation.

Fortunately, Milo had always been reclusive and disliked being in the spotlight, so few people outside the close relatives of the Montague family knew him.

Kismet glanced at Grace and nodded slightly, "She's quite pretty."

Just then, Charles, who had left earlier, returned.

Kismet was surprised, her expression changing slightly.

She quickly adjusted her expression and smiled at Charles.

Charles' return also caught Flora's attention, and she turned to look at him.

Ruby smiled and asked, "Charles, why are you back? Weren't you handling something?"

Charles chose a seat in the middle, his face cold, his voice equally icy, "Wasn't there supposed to be a gift? I haven't received mine yet."

Ruby sensed his coldness and awkwardly smiled, "Oh right, you danced the first dance, you should get a gift."

Kismet turned to Flora and saw that Flora was also looking at Charles, her previously bright eyes now showing a hint of complexity.

Even a fool could see that Charles' mood had turned colder, even angry.

What was wrong with Charles?

Was he angry because he saw Grace dancing with another man?

Charles' face remained cold, holding a wine glass, his gaze fixed on the dancing couple in the center of the floor.

He exuded a chilling aura, making everyone too afraid to approach.

As the soft music reached its end, Grace gracefully spun and then stood still as the music stopped.

She was slightly out of breath and bowed with Milo to the audience.

Immediately, the crowd erupted in applause.

Before the applause died down, Grace and Milo tried to leave the dance floor.

But they were stopped by the butler, who smiled and said, "Please wait, you were chosen to dance the third dance, so please follow me to receive your gift."

Grace forced a smile; she wasn't very interested in the gift. She felt a gaze on her and wanted to leave quickly to escape it.

Before she could respond, Milo said, "Alright, thank you."

The butler gestured for them to follow and led them away from the dance floor.

Milo held her hand and followed the butler.

Meanwhile, the spotlight disappeared, the luxurious crystal chandeliers lit up, and gentle music played. Those who hadn't been chosen found their dance partners and joined the dance floor.

Grace and Milo followed the butler to the side and immediately saw Charles lounging on a sofa, legs crossed.

Catching sight of the familiar figure, Charles' cold gaze locked onto her.

It had been two months since the divorce.

This was the first time she had seen Charles, and it was in such a formal setting.

She instinctively looked away, remembering they were divorced, and she and Milo were just colleagues and friends. She had nothing to fear and no reason to feel guilty.

With that thought, she turned her head and looked elsewhere, leaving him with a cold expression.

Charles' deep gaze didn't leave her, and seeing her cold face, his gaze slowly shifted to Milo's hand holding hers.

His eyes turned icy, and he tightened his grip on the wine glass, suddenly smashing it onto the table.

The sharp sound startled everyone, and they turned to look at him.

Ruby and Kismet were also shocked, their faces full of surprise, but they didn't dare say anything.

The atmosphere was awkward, and Flora glanced at the butler.

The butler immediately understood and had the servants bring the gift Jeffrey had prepared.

He walked over to Grace and Milo, "This is the gift Mr. Adams prepared for you. Please accept it."

Grace extended her hands and realized that since leaving the dance floor, Milo had still been holding her hand.

She frowned slightly and quickly pulled her hand away from Milo's, accepting Jeffrey's gift, a delicate wooden box.

With his hand now free, Milo glanced at her and also extended his hands to accept the box.

They both thanked the butler.

The butler then walked over to Charles, who was sitting on the sofa, and respectfully said, "Mr. Montague, this is your gift."

Grace's gaze followed the butler and met Charles' extremely dark eyes.

Like being electrocuted, she quickly looked away and headed back to the corner where she had been standing.

Milo, like a shadow, followed her closely.

Watching the two leave together, Charles couldn't hold back any longer. He stood up abruptly, accidentally knocking over the wine glass.

The butler standing in front of him was startled by his actions and quickly stepped back, nervously saying, "Mr. Montague, Mr. Adams' gift..."

Charles impatiently waved his hand, "Have Aunt Ruby keep it for me."

With that, he ignored everything and chased after Grace, his tall figure quickly disappearing in the direction she had left.

The butler stood there, looking troubled, and turned to Kismet, unsure of what to do.

Having been publicly snubbed, Kismet's face was a bit grim, feeling embarrassed.

Flora's expression was equally cold and displeased.

The atmosphere was tense and awkward.

After a few seconds, Kismet broke the silence and waved to the butler, "Alright, just bring it over."
