Chapter 11
Miguel shut his eyes briefly trying to calm down and remind himself that Xavier saw her as his wife not his Amanda so he shouldn't mess things up.
"Mr. Da Silva, I'm like a brother to Alisha so you don't really have to think maliciously” He said, calmly but that didn't soothe Xavier's rage.
Like a brother?
"I would appreciate it if you left my house right now," He ordered.
Miguel nodded. "I was about to leave anyway." He turned to face Amanda. "Take care of yourself," He muttered feeling as though he was starting to lose her before even making her his.
"Goodbye, Miguel," she muttered as Miguel walked away.
The sadness in her voice made Xavier ominously still. It was as if she wanted to go with that man.
He grabbed her hand and unceremoniously led her to the house.
"Who the hell is he?" He asked angrily.
"Miguel Cortex," she replied sarcastically.
"I know his stupid name. How is he related to you?"
Amanda stared at everywhere else but his eyes as she spoke.
"He was our nanny’s son. His mother died when he was seven, my father was very fond of him, so he promised to take care of him until he was old enough to fend for himself."
"Don't raise your voice at her!"
Miguel's words ran through his head, that man didn't certainly see his wife as a sister, there was this look in his eyes while he warned him and for the first time in his life, he had been stunned to see a man who definitely knew him and had the guts to yell at him. This Miguel was giving him an uneasy feeling.
"Why aren't you related to him?" Xavier asked. At least, if they were blood related, he would feel slightly uneasy.
Amanda frowned wondering how she could answer that question.
Xavier stared at the confused look she was giving him. It made him stop to think and regroup himself, why was he overreacting? For one thing, he couldn't share his woman, and clearly she wasn't cheating on him but he couldn't help but feel disturbed that she had grew up with that man who obviously adores her.
"I don't want you to associate with other men be it Miguel..."
"Xavier, you have nothing to worry about with my relationship with Miguel, I can't..."
He cut her off with a wave of his hand.
"I'm not worried about your relationship with Miguel" He snapped, and his subconsciousness snapped at him too.
"It's only natural that I won't want to see other men holding my wife, I told you before that I won't treat you like a prisoner, but if I see that Jackass anywhere near you..."His gaze flicked her angrily. "You'll be sorry" With that, he ascended the stairs.
Amanda leaned against the wall; it was as if she could finally breathe properly now.
The next day she was walking around the house, she had tried getting the maids to talk informally to her but they wouldn't budge. This boredom was killing her. She wasn't used to it at all. She was someone who loved talking and laughing even about minor things.
A thought occurred to her. Yes! Xavier said he wasn't keeping her here as some sought of prisoner so she could go out, right?
As she took a step forward, she noticed one of his men close by. No! She didn't want to go out and be escorted like a queen. She wanted to be herself like old times.
She covered her head with her hoodie and sneaked out of the house.
As she walked down the street, she felt so alive. She should go out more often.
She walked through the pavement and came by a park, she saw a crowd and curiously, she headed towards the park.
At the park, she found out that an eating contest was being staged.
An e-reader was the award for any who would come out first position in finishing six big waffles in five minutes without drinking water.
Amanda huffed. Six waffles in five minutes? Too easy. As she took a step forward, she recalled whose bride she was, but then shrugged it off. They were so many people here, no one could possibly recognize her, and Xavier wouldn't know about this.
She hurriedly signed up and soon she was seated with five other men.
"3...2...1"
And then she took off, eating speedily, she almost choked but started hitting her chest at the same time finishing off waffles after waffles.
To everyone's amusement, the only woman in the midst of five men came out first.
She lifted up her hands triumphantly, smiling broadly as the people cheered her on.
This was fun.
"Don't raise your voice at her!"
"Ugh!" Xavier exclaimed trying to get those words out of his head desperately, and the fact that he was yet to bed his wife made him angrier.
He placed his fingers on his keyboard, he had to get her out of his mind, even if that man loves her or not...he wouldn't be able to do anything about it because he wasn't letting her go.
Dio! When did he start becoming this possessive?
A knock sounded from the door.
"Come in"
His secretary, Jane walked in.
"Sir, you really need to see this,” she said and placed her cellphone in front of him. He could see that it was one of the numerous posts on social media, but the caption made him froze.
"Da Silva's Bride"
He quickly turned on the video and behold, he saw his wife in the midst of five men...dressed in plain jeans and hoodie... eating like a hungry lion.
At one point, she started hitting her chest, he wondered if she even chewed the waffles.
And when she emerged as the winner, she lifted up her hands like a warrior who had won a battle between five kingdoms.
The comments that followed nearly gave him a heart attack. A billionaire's wife in an eating contest? Does that make any sense?
"Is this really my wife?" he asked in total disbelief.
