Chapter 22 The fall
Chapter 22 The fall
We finally got out of the Borderwoods only to come upon a stretch of land that seemed to have no end to it. Not a cloud in sight and the sun seemed to shed light on everything that was out in the open.
Alaric thought it was best to stop and eat for daybreak. I gathered firewood while he went to hunt for food. He said that are good amounts of squirreils and rybbitts in the forest and that they were easy to catch, that he would be back soon.
With the fire going, Alaric came back with three rybbits and two squirreils. We ate but I did wondered if he said to anybody that he was leaving and would be gone for a long while.
“So did you part with anyone before leaving the castle grounds?”, I looked at him while continuing to eat my rybbit.
“You know for a princess who doesn’t seem to like to meddle in others people affairs, you sure are nosy”, I shrugged my shoulders to which chuckled but still continued on talking. “Well, the only one who seemed to care about me is Queen Cassandra. You do remember how I told you she was the one who found me after my mom died?” I nodded at this to which he responded with, “well she made sure I was well fed, educated and also made me train in the ways of the sword. She did though try for my father to have a relationship with me, but fortunately for me didn’t want anything to do with me. My older brother, Levan was too complicated to understand and to prideful to talk to the bastard. But little Theo though has mentioned about a pretty girl with purple hair. He is still too young and innocent, so he doesn’t know about all the royal secrets of the castle”. He took a bite out of his burnt meat, chewed in silence before continuing, “So I suppose the only nythari that cares about me would probably be the Queen and Theo, who I parted with last night”. I could relate for I too only had two people who actually cared about me.
We finished eating, cleaned up after ourselves and begin our travels again. As we journeyed more down south, the Borderwoods seemed to get smaller with each passing rate. Since I never been to another region besides the Zaryth Kingdom, it was strange seeing as how the grass started to slowly fade away. The dirt seemed to become looser and more sandy. I wondered if the steeds would survive in the desert. Although Alaric did assured me that the steeds would survive for they have survived in much harsher conditions than the one we would be traveling to.
The sun began to go over the horizon meaning that we had to find shelter soon. We had to the west for nothing can be seen but sand that would reach the horizon. Luckily, we found a small old abandoned farm that looked stable enough for our steeds and us to spend the night.
Tying our steeds to the post that was by the water basin, we went inside the farm where there was mounds of hay where we make shifted beds out of the hay.
Lying down on the hay, I saw there was a giant hole in the sky where I could see the stars mingling with the night sky.
Alaric laid down next to me and just said, “Good night Violet”, then silently towards over on his side. Well at least I had a nice view to fall asleep to.
Late into the night, I still couldn’t sleep for the life of me. So instead of tossing and turning on the haystack, I went outside to check on the horses. Alaric came shortly outside, leaned against the doorframe and casually said, “can’t sleep?”. I shook my head no to which he nodded. He stood alongside his steed and started petting her snout.
“The real reason I wanted to come with you on this trip was because I couldn’t bare the thought of being apart from you. Yes I know, it’s been only three new moons that I know of you, but since the first time I saw with my sword, the first time I fight with you, I knew I met my equal, or someone that I know will bring out the best in me”, he at first hesitated then came up to me and gave me soft kiss. This kiss felt like a promise, or a secret that we needed to protect. Then he went and left me with this unsaid promise between us.
I chased after through the barn, grabbed his hand, pulled him towards me and crashed my lips onto his. This time we didn’t let go of each other. His hands against my back pressing me closer to me, pushing me to the wall of the barn. My hands trying to find his bare skin underneath all these clothes that he has on. I just wanted or needed of him. I felt his muscles tense when I touched him, for my cold hands against his warm skin felt like touching the radiating sun. I couldn’t hold back any longer this time, I had too much electricity coursing through my veins my wings and horns came out on their own.
When my wings came out, Alaric was thrown forth from the force of my wings being let out so violently. I was still in my ecstatic state that I didn’t realize I threw Alaric through the farmhouse to the outside. I didn’t know what was happening to me, I felt as if I was levitating in midair. I heard Alaric shouting my name but he sounded distant, almost as if he was a dream. Then suddenly, I was falling, falling into a deep abyss until I felt a warm embrace surround my whole entity .
I opened my eyes to find two yellow red eyes staring back at me.
