The Guardian of the Isle
The Guardian of the Isle
The fire crackled softly near Nasir’s body as he dozed, when he heard the clap of thunder, he opened his eyes to see a dragon fly out of a portal, he watched as the dragon circled the pirate ship before landing heavily on the beach. Nasir lifted on his elbows as he watched people climb off Seraphina’s back, Tariq leaping out of her jaws transforming back to his human form.
Nasir sat up as he watched the various people who now surrounded him. “I’m guessing not all of you are dragons,” He asked.
The people shook their head, before looking back at Seraphina who had launched herself back into the air. “Nasir, where are we?” Tariq asked.
“The Enchantresses’ Island.” Nasir stated, wincing slightly as the people behind Tariq gasped and started whispering frantically.
“The Enchantress will not curse you.” Tariq snapped. “She’s not here, anyways.”
“What do you mean?” Nasir asked alarmed. He’d been on the beach for a while, if the Enchantress was gone, he now worried why Zara had not already returned.
“The Island is now under new ownership.” Verena’s voice spoke out, as she stepped out of the forest.
Nasir turned surprised lacing his face as he saw Zara at her side, her regular clothes gone, a silver dress draping her slight form, a simple crown of silvery petals on her forehead. “What is going on here?” Zara spoke up.
“Are you the Enchantress?” Nasir asked.
Zara flicked her eyes at him. “I am a Guardian of this Isle. Who are all these people?”
“Victims of the Pied Piper.” Tariq replied. “They’ve been under his control for a long time.”
Zara’s face softened. “Everyone, just beyond the maze is a castle, please come with me to rest and recuperate. In time, I will speak with all of you, and see what I can do, to make sure you find your way home.”
Verena gestured to follow her, and the people went, leaving Zara and the two men on the beach. “Guardian?” Nasir asked.
“You did say you would always be at my side.” Zara smirked.
“I can think of no two people more suited into guiding souls to where they are meant to be.” Tariq murmured.
“There is of course always room for you and your wife, should she ever want to leave her island.” Zara stated.
“I will let her know, and let your sister know where you now reside.” Tariq murmured with a bow.
“You don’t have to,” Zara began.
“No, I’m on my way there, I owe her an explanation in any case. Those people we saved was part of something the Queen was working on,” Tariq hesitated glancing at the two of them. “With Shazir.”
Zara’s eyes widened. “Shazir is back? Is my sister, okay?”
“It’s a long story,” Tariq sighed. “Shazir is not back, in fact he is now busy with the other victims of the Pied Piper that resides in the Monster realm. That’s why Seraphina ran off.”
“I see.” Zara replied with an arched brow.
“I must see the Queen. I will be back, and give you a full report when I can, Lady of Moonlight.” Tariq murmured with a smile, before he walked towards the water, changing back into a snake and slithering into the ocean.
“Guess we have all been busy.” Nasir murmured.
“Come on, General.” Zara murmured, taking Nasir’s hand. “We have people to protect and guard.”
Nasir grinned down at her, sliding his other hand in her hair, kissing her softly in the moonlight. They would always have another adventure, another person to save.
And Nasir could not think of a better future with his wife.
