Til Death Did We Part
Til Death Did We Part
“Technically I wasn’t the one who left the last time.” Shazir pointed out taking a step back as Seraphina tilted her head in a reptilian fashion. “Okay I know I could’ve done this better, but it was the only thing I could think of!”
Tariq narrowed his eyes. “You knew she would come after that letter, didn’t you?” He asked.
Shazir glanced at him his eyes narrowing slightly. “I knew that Seraphina would be mad, and I was counting on that Dragon’s rage to help me.” he stammered, glancing at the girls behind him. “Help them.”
He took a step forward and put his hand in Seraphina’s holding her hand in both of his. “I have done terrible things, horrible things. Being trapped under a maniacal mad man, would be a penance. But these girls, have been separated for years, sisters torn apart. They have suffered under the Piper’s rule. I used to be him. I can’t let that remain my legacy not anymore.”
Seraphina’s entire countenance seemed to change at his words. “You haven’t been a monster for long enough, to have already become wise to your own faults.”
“Perhaps those rumors we once heard so long ago about Dragon powers poisoning those who weren’t dragons were true. Perhaps this was always what I was meant to be. Even without you.”
Seraphina moved her hand from his grasp and launched into the air her body morphing into her dragon form as soon as she was airborne. Shazir closed his eyes as wind whipped around them the ceiling of the room caving in as Seraphina burst through.
“Where is she going?” Vanna asked fear lacing her tone. Shazir glanced at her, seeing the fear within her eyes, the tremble in her fingers. He looked back at the hole Seraphina had left behind, a distant roar heard from above.
“She’ s going to finish what we started.” Shazir replied.
“Not without me she isn’t.” Tariq stated opening the door and throwing himself off the ramparts of the castle.
“Good Heavens!” Violet shrieked following where he’d gone, and looking down at where he’d fallen, except there was no sign of Tariq, instead clouds of sulphur and ash rose up a gigantic black snake slithering out of it, winding it’s body around the fighters who’d paused their fury as they heard the Dragon’s roar, a couple of them running off as they saw the onyx snake wrapping around where the fighters stood. The razored tail of the snake flicked, crashing into the castle walls deep cracks appeared where he hit it stone and brick fell. The entire castle seemed to shake, just as plumes of fire appeared as Seraphina flew in and torched those in the middle of Tariq.
Shazir raised his hands in the air, lightning flying out from his fingertips in an array of vibrant hues. Storm clouds filled the already dark skies as the lightning shook and then crashed down into Kagan as sharp as if he’d been impaled by a sword. Kagan hung in the air his back arched as if time had stopped and frozen. Before he could fall, Tariq the snake lunged forward his huge jaws snapping around his frame with a sickening crunch.
When Tariq opened his jaws and backed off, transforming back to his mortal form just as Seraphina burst out of her dragon form and stood beside him. They watched as time returned, Kagan’s frame falling in the middle of the ash and soot of his fellow guards. His lifeless eyes staring out, of one half his body, his other half on the opposite side of the courtyard.
“And so, falls the Piper.” Vanna murmur.
“Indeed,” Violet smirked. “Until death did, we part.”
Ettrick gazed down at the courtyard his eyes wide. “But the people that were fighting him?”
“They all volunteered because they wanted to die.” Vanna murmured. “Living forever isn’t all what it’s cracked up to be.”
Shazir looked down the corridor as people started to appear, looking dazed. They all seemed to be clutching their head, or in some cases their forearms. “What’s going on?” he asked.
“They are free from his control.” Violet murmured. She looked to Ettrick pain in her eyes. “I love you. I always have. Since the day you saved me from the harpies.”
Ettrick closed his eyes, reaching for her hand, and bringing it to his lips. “I have loved you since we were children running in the meadow.” He murmured. “Where you go, so shall I.”
Violet smiled, touching his cheek softly, before she turned a serious gaze to her sister. “You don’t have to ask. You are my sister, and I will protect you in all the ways I couldn’t before.”
Violet smiled, before her eyes flicked from her sister’s to Shazir’s. “I don’t suppose your, Dragon has a way of getting us out of here.”
