Breakfast palava
Breakfast palava
The moment Cathy got into the campus building, she sighted Isabella by the last row seat in the class, close to the entrance door. Isabella was busy using her phone.
Cathy had just come from her car after the call with Adrian. She still felt warm from his voice and the surprise money he sent.
Isabella wore a simple blue top that hugged her figure nicely, paired with black jeans and white sneakers. Her hair was tied back in a neat ponytail.
A smile appeared on Cathy's face. She began to walk to her.
After a few minutes, she got to her. Cathy hugged her from the back.
With that, Isabella became conscious of herself. She realised that it was Cathy. Then she smiled and finally turned to her. At that moment, Cathy was smiling and pecking her all over her face. With a whisper like, "I'm sorry babe..."
After a few seconds, they let go of each other. Then Cathy whooped out joyfully. "So can we go and have breakfast now."
Immediately Isabella replied joyfully. "Yes yes, I have been waiting for you all day."
Then Cathy replied, "And now I'm here."
At that same moment, Isabella stood up from the seat she was in.
Then she began to walk out of the lecture room with a smile on their faces.
After a few minutes of walking through hallways and corridors, and past other students, they finally got to the food cafeteria.
The cafeteria was a big, open space with bright lights. It was a little bit noisy.
Students talked loudly at different tables. Some laughed, some argued about assignments.
Many seats were filled with people eating different types of food.
There were plates of scrambled eggs with toast, bowls of fresh fruit salad, sandwiches filled with turkey and cheese, and hot pancakes topped with syrup.
The air smelled of coffee, fried bacon, and warm bread. At the serving area, uniformed chefs stood behind the counter.
They wore white aprons and moved quickly. They served food to the long line of students, scooping rice, vegetables, or pasta with big spoons. One chef called out orders while another poured drinks.
One of the set tables was for Lilly and Mira, with two other ladies from their level.
The moment Cathy and Isabella stepped closer, searching for seats before they could get their food, Mira looked up and saw them.
Then she smirked and muttered to her friends, "Here comes the two bitches."
With that, her other friends looked up at her direction and noticed Cathy. Then they smirked too, and laughed violently.
Afterward, Mira muttered with full of hatred in her eyes. "That stupid Cathy thinks she owns the world. I mean she thinks coming from a rich family will make everyone liking her. I hate her so much, rubbish."
As the statement landed, she looked down to the table and took a big sip from her orange juice, as if that could eradicate Cathy away from her view.
But that did not, and it would not, because Cathy was still standing with Isabella, checking out the seats they could go for.
That was when her eyes landed on Max sitting alone on a set seat. Two seats were still free with him.
Just then, Isabella noticed and she immediately pointed there. She turned to Cathy and muttered, "You see, there is free seats at Max side. Can we just go and get the food and go for the seat, before any other people will occupy it."
At that, Cathy nodded in agreement. She could not have said no because there were not any other seats.
And besides she knew it was going to be an awkward moment between him and Max. Breakfast time used to be full and overfull, so any seats anyone sees, they easily take a chance of it.
Finally, they turned and began walking to the chefs at the serving counter. The moment they finally got there, Isabella turned to Cathy and muttered, "I will be having whatever you are having."
Then Cathy responded teasingly. "Well I even have no idea of what I will be eating."
At that moment, Isabella glared across the food that was presented.
After a few seconds she pointed at the golden-brown pancakes stacked with berries. Then she muttered to one of the uniformed chefs standing to attend to them. "Give us two plates of that and two glasses of apple juice."
Immediately the chef nodded in agreement. Then he began to portion the food. The food did not take much time.
After a second, the chef was done portioning the food and handed each plate to Cathy and Isabella.
Then Isabella and Cathy turned and began walking to the Max table. And as for Max, he was not aware of the whole situation. He was minding his business, sipping his tea calmly.
Isabella was the first person to get to Max table. Immediately she whooped out greeting Max. "Hey, hello how are you?"
With that, Max looked up from his tea and his eyes met with Isabella. At that same moment, Cathy was already there. Then Max replied Isabella. "Hey Isabella how are you?"
Immediately Isabella replied and took her seat. "I'm fine and you?"
At that same moment, Cathy formed out a smile and muttered. "Hi hello, Max..."
Immediately Max replied. "I'm good Cathy, thanks for asking." Max had like he had been waiting for that the whole time. Afterwards Cathy took her seat beside Isabella who was already munching her food. Then her eyes met with Max again.
Instantly Max smiled and all she could do was to smile back, to make everything seem less awkward.
Meanwhile, Mira was still on her seat witnessing the whole thing. With that her hatred grew more.
She felt like Cathy do have a way of making all the campus guy to like her. "Maybe because she's from wealthy and she has a rich and hot cousin, she feels other ladies are nonentity. We should teach her a lesson right?" Lilly said to Mira as she followed her gaze directions.
At that moment, Mira took her eyes off and leaned closer to Lilly and whispered. "What do you think we should do to her."
Then the other ladies leaned their faces in. Then Lilly began to whisper to them slowly. After a second, they all leaned back their heads and laughed violently. "The game was just beginning."
Cathy took a bite of her pancake. It tasted sweet and fluffy in her mouth. She glanced at Max again. He looked relaxed as he sipped his tea.
Isabella chatted lightly about the morning lectures between bites. The cafeteria noise stayed around them. More students came in with trays. Trays clattered on tables. Laughter came from different corners of the room.
Max asked Cathy a simple question about the lecture they shared earlier. She answered politely with a nod.
The awkward feeling between them started to fade slowly.
Isabella smiled as she watched her friend and Max talk. She felt happy to see them getting along.
But across the room, Mira kept watching everything. Her eyes stayed sharp with anger.
She finished her orange juice and pushed the glass away. The group of ladies at her table kept throwing glances. Their whispers grew stronger as they planned small troubles ahead.
Cathy felt a small chill run down her back but she pushed the thought aside.
She focused on her breakfast. The sun came through the big windows and made the cafeteria brighter. For now, the three of them at the table enjoyed their meal.
Isabella laughed at a small joke Max made. Cathy joined in with a soft laugh.
The morning moved on. More students filled the space. The chefs kept serving hot plates of eggs, bacon, and oatmeal quickly.
Cathy thought about her day ahead with classes and assignments. She also wondered why Mira always looked at her with so much hate. Isabella wiped her mouth with a napkin. "This is really good," she said happily.
Max nodded in agreement. Cathy smiled and agreed too. They continued eating until their plates were almost empty.
