HALF OF A SOUL
HALF OF A SOUL
Chapter 178.
Claudia's pov.
Once again, I felt the energy being drained and this time I let it, letting the darkness consume me, letting a fire burn like no other and I knew exactly what I was doing.
I was willing to sacrifice myself for the greater good of the world, it was my way.
This choice had been predetermined before my birth and I had come to the realization that I could not escape it, and so I would embrace it.
I took everything in, feeling the darkness creep like a slow crawling plant, taking over my nerves and my muscles but this time I didn't fight it.
Locking my knees, I wanted to cry out, to scream at the top of my lungs, to curse the world for this unfairness but I didn't.
This was my doing and I would face it head on.
And slowly it crept, my knees, thighs fell prey to the darkness and I felt numb with each movement it made up my body.
The tips of my fingers felt the coldness of death, like it stood right in front of me, doors wide open on its hinges.
The darkness continued relentlessly with no mercy, like a sickness that cannot be healed and the last place it crept into was my heart.
A lone tear skidded down the side of my face as the last bits of me were consumed with nothing left and I knew it was all over.
My eyes shot open in shock as I jerked awake, handing around frantically in search of the others in confusion, scared, wondering what had happened.
My muscles felt like they had been rejuvenated, not a single shred of pain could be felt, no one in sight, not Warren, not my mother, not Finch.
No one.
The land was desolated, tall grasses that pricked me with every movement, swaying in the direction of the gentle wind that whipped my hair around me.
It took me a while to calm my racing heart down as I heard what had happened to the others, but once I had settled, I realized that I had been here before.
Where I had met the moon goddess herself.
Just as I thought, her white garment shone brightly, an aura that wrapped around me like a blanket. She was really out of this world.
Her smile was calming, like a gentle sea breeze.
I rushed over.
“Dear, you've really caused a hassle haven't you?”
I couldn't respond, I didn't know how to, but said the next thing that came to my mind, “The world chose this fate for me, I only had to complete it,”
She recounted the events that had occurred and how I had taken a soul, and the price I had to pay for the sin I had committed.
I bowed my head low in shame while she continued, a judgement it would seem.
“Don't be dismayed darling, this is no trial,”
Raising my head with a silver of hope, “What do you mean?”
“I mean, this is merely a moment where I commend you for your bravery,” she shrugged her shoulders before turning away and entering a slow walk.
The more she spoke the more confused I got.
But I followed her anyway, “You exhibited the kind of bravery that hadn't been seen for a long time, one which would have caused another genocide,
Another??
She went on to explain that there had been a time ago where this had also occurred, but the one to have stopped it chose herself instead and had to watch the world burn.
“you chose a righteous path and for that I am thankful,”
We arrived at the edge of the cliff where we stood side by side, our gazes washed over the base valley below, a full moon to the corners and the blue sky dusted by countless stars.
What a sight to behold.
I let out a sigh.
We remained in this position as I relaxed knowing that I truly didn't destroy the world and for once I had made the right decision, but a heavy feeling settled in my heart expressed by a long sigh which escaped my lips.
“What bothers you child?”
I wondered if it was okay to say this but said it anyway, “I'm just, I just miss them, that's all, even though it's only been less than a few minutes since I died,”
A chuckle escaped the moon goddesses' lips which forced me to glance away from the scenery, “Who said you died?”
What?!!
I blinked a few times in confusion and wondered if my ears really worked.
“Who said you were dead?!!” A smirk stretched across her lips as she finally peered at me from the corner of her eyes.
I tried to find my voice, “But…..I….I thought……” my mind was in a spiral, “I thought the dark magic consumed every part of me?”
The moon goddess gazed down at me like one would when looking at their child, “It did, but you forget who you are dear,”
What's that supposed to mean?
“You forget that you are the child of the prophecy, the power you yield is more than any,”
A gentle hand was placed on my shoulder, “there were two parts of you which had become one,”
“But at a critical moment, a rather daring call, there was a split, which my dear is the only thing that saved you,”
To be honest I was still confused.
The moon goddess continued nonetheless, “all you have to know is, you are not dead………but a part of you might,”
I was going to ask more questions when the moon goddess cut me off, “you should enjoy this while it lasts, the time to head back is almost here,”
I did not push it any further while she sat on the grass and I followed her lead, closing my eyes and swaying with the gentle breeze, a joy in my heart.
I'm going to see them again.
