Chapter 35

General POV

She stirs the smoothie well, adds some ice and goes back to what she's doing.

A few minutes later, Alexa comes back into the kitchen, panting.

She hands the bag of medicine to Moana, who smiles gratefully.

Moana nudges in the direction of the glass of smoothie with her head, "Hurry, take it up to Lizzy, she must be expecting you."

"Ah, thank you Moana." Bouncing, Alexa quickly carries the tray and heads upstairs.

She knocks lightly on the workshop door before entering.

"Here, ma'am." Grinning, she sets the tray down next to Elizabeth.

"Thank you, Alexa, what would I do without you?" Elizabeth smiles and takes the glass of smoothie.

It's a sunny afternoon and she's been working since the morning.

She swallows the contents in one gulp, belching contentedly.

Crunching on the ice, she gives Alexa a thumbs up before returning to her sewing. A few seconds later, however, she begins to feel sleepy.

Yawning, Elizabeth sighs. "I think I'll go to my room and take a nap. That smoothie was just right.

Alexa grins.

"Please close the door for me, thank you." Elizabeth yawns again as she heads for her room.

As soon as she enters, she throws herself on the bed and immediately falls asleep.

When Alexa returns downstairs with the tray of empty glass cups. As she reaches the kitchen door, she suddenly bumps into someone, knocking the tray out of her hand. The glass cup immediately shatters on the floor.

She quickly looks up and when she sees it's Moana she's bumped into, she's overcome with fear. "I'm so sorry, I'm sorry... I don't know what I was thinking... Please forgive me." She apologises.

Moana presses her lips together, "It's okay. Mistakes happen. You're not hurt, are you? Just get a broom and sweep up the shards - be careful."

Having said her piece, she walks away.

With a sigh, Alexa hurries to do as she is told and carefully sweeps the area.

As soon as Martha enters her room, she removes the bottle from her pockets and throws it in the bin.

"You shouldn't have come for what's mine." She sneers and stares into space.

Ethan's POV

"Sir, isn't it a little early..."

"Shut up and drive, Arthur. Drive fast." I cut in sharply.

Hell, my P. A. doesn't know what love does to someone. How it drives you mad and makes you do stupid things-one of which I'm doing right now.

I glance down at the custom-made watch on my wrist and can't help but shake my head.

It's only a few minutes past two and I'm rushing home for no other reason than to see Spitfire.

I didn't see her before I left the house this morning - she's quite a sleepyhead, you know?

"Have you ever been in love, Arthur?" I ask calmly, looking out the tinted window of the car.

My P. A. is silent for a while... "Not really, sir."

My eyebrows furrow, "Then you're not in love, my friend. It's either yes or no. You're either in love or completely out of it - there's no in-between."

He chuckles and replies, "OK, sir."

As soon as the car stops in the driveway, I get out, smiling as I carry the flower I got for my darling, and go inside.

Alexa is sweeping as I enter-isn't it a bit late for that - but I don't care.

"Where is she?" I ask Alexa, because she's the only person Spitfire is really close to.

Why, you ask? I have no idea. I'll ask Spitfire later.

"Madam is in her room, she's taking a nap." Seeing me, Alexa stops what she's doing and bobs.

Hmm. I wave her off and go upstairs.

Spitfire will be so surprised to see that I'm back very early - with flowers. Aren't I the perfect fiancé?

As I reach the landing, I imagine myself stripping as I enter Spitfire's room, slipping into bed beside her and pressing my hard cock against her soft cheeks. No, not the cheeks you're thinking of - the other ones, below...

Smirking.

When I get to Spitfire's door, I don't bother knocking so as not to disturb her peaceful slumber. Silently, I open the door and step into her bedroom.

I place the bouquet of flowers on the bedside table and start to remove my tie. I can't help but frown at the look on Spitfire's face. Why is she grimacing in her sleep? Is she uncomfortable? Is she having a bad dream?

I lean down and cradle her cheek in the palm of my hand, "Spitfire..." I call softly, smoothing the fine lines at the outer corner of her eyes with my thumb.

"Hey," I sit beside her and stroke her face. "Your husband's home."

She doesn't answer. She's pretending...

But suddenly I hear fast, irregular knocking noises and I furrow my brow. Where's it coming from?

I lowered my head as the sound seemed to be coming from my side.

Huh? My eyebrows furrow, the sound is coming from Spitfire - Spitfire's chest.

"..."

Her chest... the rate at which her heart is beating is very fast.

"Baby," I shake her. "Hey."

But no matter how hard I try, she doesn't respond.

What the hell?!

I hurriedly carry her off the bed and race downstairs.

"Get me a car!" I shout as I run outside.

Luckily, the car I drove to work in this morning is still in the driveway.

Arthur quickly opens the door and I carry Spitfire inside.

"Hurry, Arthur! Hurry up!" I growl.

Arthur gets into the driver's seat and drives off.

I look up at Spitfire's face - her head is in my lap. Fear washes over me. If anything happens to her... Fuck.

What could have gone wrong? Isn't she happy here? Is she depressed? Am I making her suffer? All sorts of thoughts race through my head.

When we arrive at the hospital, I almost kick the car door in as I pick up Spitfire and rush inside.

I stand in horror as Spitfire is wheeled into an emergency ward.
