CHAPTER 82

CHAPTER 82

Elena

I paced up and down, lost in thought, when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to meet Savien’s piercing eyes.

He looks like he's holding back so many things. “You need to see a doctor. You're not well.”

“B…but Edward.”

“He'll be fine, I'm here with him.” I nodded and walked away with the doctor who was standing by him.

They gave me something, and I soon drifted to sleep. I woke up feeling extremely tense. I needed to see Edward. I tried yanking the drip off my hand, but a nurse saw me and immediately rushed to my side.

“Ma'am, don't do that. You need to rest. You're very weak and dehydrated. You need enough rest,” she said as she calmed me down.

“But, I need to see my husband he's hurt. I need to see him.” I nearly burst into tears, but she stood her ground.

“Where's my baby?” I asked, and she pointed to the corner of the room. “She's over there. Do you want to hold her?” I nodded, and she walked over to her crib, scooped her up, and walked to my side.

I gently took her from the nurse. The nurse handed me some pills, and I took them. She warned me to stay in bed because I had lost a lot of energy and needed enough rest. But it was hard to obey that, I wanted to see Edward. What happened to him?

The thoughts running through my mind make me anxious and restless, and I can't stand it. This is all my fault; I let him down, and I let him down badly. He trusted me, and I betrayed him just like his mother betrayed his father.

Edward is the only person who has actually shown me real life, and I look at how I paid him back. I looked at my baby, who was also looking at me. She has her father's grey eyes, just that her's isn't as dull and dark as her father's.

But why was Ric standing there with Pius? Wasn't he supposed to help Edward? The nurse left after checking my vitals. This is my chance. I yanked the drip connected to my arm off.

I climbed off the bed and headed to the door. I twisted the door handle and left my room. I couldn't remember exactly where they wheeled Edward to, but I don't care about that. If I have to roam the whole hospital to find him, then I will.

“Elena?” I turned to meet Savien’s pale face. He had a bag in his hand, and his hair was messy. He looked like he hadn't slept well in days.

“Where are you going?”

“Oh Savien, thank God you're here. Where's Edward? I want to see him.” My heart was thumping so hard as I waited in anticipation for his answer.

“Elena, please. Go back inside. You're not well. You need to rest.”

“I'm fine, can't you see? I'm perfectly fine.”

“You're not. You need to rest.”

“Just fucking tell me where he is!” I yelled, feeling scared and impatient. Why doesn't he want to tell me where Edward is?

I looked around and took in a deep breath. “Elena, calm down. You need enough energy to take care of your baby.”

“Savien, please…where…where is he?” I broke down in tears.

“He's undergoing a second surgery.” I blinked at him a few times. “Why a second surgery?”

“Come on, you need to sit down. You look very pale.” He said as he led me back inside my room. He put the baby back in the crib and pulled out a chair for himself.

He opened the back and brought out a sandwich. “Here.” He handed it to me, and I took it. Suddenly I remembered that I had been hungry for a long time.

I munched on the food, and Savien handed me a bottle of water as I ate.

“The doctors removed 5 bullets from his body. They later found out that there was a sixth bullet lodged in his chest, but the bullet was lodged inside the pendant he wore around his neck, which saved him. Or else it would've been brutal.”

I swallowed hard as I stared at Savien. My mouth went dry, and I couldn't make up a sentence.

“You just need to get better so that if anything happens, you'll be able to take care of…”

“No!” I cut him off angrily. “Nothing will happen to him. He'll be fine.”

“Elena, his condition is critical.”

“Are you happy that he is dying? Really? You're telling me that my husband is going to die?”

“No, I'm not saying that, I'm just saying that we need to be prepared for anything. Because the moment Archer joined the mafia, he was well aware that he had bought a ticket to hell, and he could die at any moment.

People in the mafia don't fear death.”

“Shut up…just shut the hell up. You don't know what you're talking about. Get out.” Savien stood up slowly and nodded.

“I'll be outside if you need anything.” He said as he left. I hugged my knees and sobbed. My heart hurt so much because I knew this was all my fault.

Yet, he still came to save me. He won't die, I have to apologise to him. He deserves an apology.

Edward's surgery was a success, but he's unconscious. It's been 2 weeks, and he has still not gotten up. I got more worried every day whenever I looked at him.

I don't want what Savien said to come true, I want him to wake up. I want him to resent me, to scold me for anything. Even if he hates me for the rest of my life, I'll still be glad if he wakes up.

He didn't deserve all of this; he had been through enough already, and I'm making his life more unbearable.

Isla, my baby, was home with Sena. I didn't like the idea of bringing her to the hospital all the time. Maybe she could catch a disease or something, so I left her at home.

I sat in the chair beside Edward. The room was warm but chilly at the same time. Everything seemed to be quiet except for the beeping monitor. I stared at him as his chest went up and down.

My hand went closer to his as I clutched his hand. His skin was dry, so I applied some cream on his hands and other parts of his body as I stared at his sleeping figure.

My hand brushed his hair off his forehead as I observed his face. He had some bruises and scratches, but they looked to be healing.

I miss him so much, I miss his talk, his rare smiles, the way he holds me, making me feel like nothing else matters in this world. I miss the way he'd make love to me like it was his first time being with me. I wish he would just wake up.

But sadly, it would have to wait, the doctor said he'd take a long time to recover, so we need to be around him. I didn't even know that he was kicked out of the brotherhood because of me.

I'm such a horrible person for making him lose everything. He went there to attack Crystal because she hurt me, and I thought that he favoured his mistress.

I have so much to apologise for, but will he forgive me? He might even send me away and take my child. I might lose everything to him.

I'll still try to redeem myself because I was shitty to him. I wiped away my tears and got out of the room. I nodded to Savien, signalling for him to take over.

He and I have been taking turns watching him because we don't want anything bad to happen to him.

I walked to my car and was about to enter when I heard a woman's voice call out my name, but she didn't mention my name like how everyone does…

She called me El, and only one person called me like that…could it be…
