CHAPTER 79
CHAPTER 79
Elena
“Hey, hey, hey.” Crystal snapped her fingers in front of me to wake me up. “Don't die yet. We need to finish what we started.” She said sarcastically as she returned to where she was sitting. My wrists ached from how tightly they were tied to the headboard. The ropes were coarse, digging into my skin.
“Crystal…please…let me at least feed her.” I struggled to speak. I was sweating profusely, and my heartbeat had slowed down. I could barely hold. My head is up at this point.
My baby was crying, I couldn't hold her or comfort her, I couldn't feed her or assure her that her mum would protect her. I've failed as a mother.
I can't even protect my child. “Ahh, this is so annoying. Will you shut that brat up?
It's fucking up my ears.” Crystal’s voice rang out, sharp and full of irritation. She stood by the door, arms folded, her expression as cold as the cement walls surrounding us.
"She’s a baby, Crystal," I said through clenched teeth. "She’s hungry. She’s scared. Just bring her to me. I can calm her."
Crystal rolled her eyes. “I’m not your nanny, Elena. And this isn’t daycare.”
My fists clenched, and I tugged at the ropes again. "Please. Let me hold her. I swear I won’t try anything."
"Yeah, right. Like I’m that dumb." She glanced at the door and then back at me. “You’re lucky Pius still wants you alive. Otherwise, you and your little squealer would’ve been dealt with already.”
The baby screamed louder. I could barely see her from where I was, but the sound cut through me like knives. My chest burned.
“She needs me, Crystal. You wouldn’t understand, but she needs her mother. Just… just five minutes.”
She ignored me. “She's got your whiny voice.” Her eyes darted around.
“What is keeping him so long?” she said to herself as she got up and left the room. I immediately started tugging at the ropes and trying to set myself free.
It was so fucking painful and difficult but i had to do it, if I don't my baby could die, I could die as well.
She was crying so loud and I knew she was hungry and scared. “Don't worry, baby, mummy is coming,” I said in a breathless voice as my tears streamed down my face.
The door suddenly flew open, and I stopped every movement. She looked at me intently and walked to where she was sitting earlier and grabbed her phone.
“I'll be back home wrecker, don't try anything foolish, or you'll regret it.” I stared at her with bloodshot eyes as she walked out of the room.
I yanked at the ropes. Nothing. My wrists were raw and slick with sweat, but I couldn’t give up. I twisted one wrist, forcing it against the edge of the headboard. It hurt. Bad. But I kept going. The baby cried louder.
I pulled, twisted, scraped. Something shifted. A strand of rope snapped. Then another.
After what felt like forever, I freed my hands. “Yes, yes.” I beamed with joy. I carefully climbed off the bed and made my way towards her.
She was red-faced and soaked in tears. My heart shattered. I scooped her up, pressing her tiny body to mine. She quieted immediately, hiccupping, her face buried in my chest.
“I’m so sorry, baby. I’m here now. I’ve got you.”
I kissed her head over and over. My shirt was soaked with her tears—or maybe mine.
Oh, she's so tiny. “You're so beautiful, my angel,” I said while rocking her. I breastfed her and wiped away her tears.
We can't stay here for long, my love. I don't know where we are, but we need to leave this place as soon as possible.
I scanned the room. No phone. No weapons. Nothing but us. I don't know where this sudden surge of energy came from, but I'm going to use it well.
She blinked up at me, her breathing slowing. My chest rose and fell with each breath I took, but there was fire in it now. I wasn’t the same scared girl anymore. I had her.
And I’d kill for her.
