CHAPTER 73
CHAPTER 73
FOUR WEEKS LATER
Elena
For the past few weeks, I realised that Archer hardly stepped out; he normally spent time taking care of me, and it got me thinking. Did he take a break to take care of me or what?
Cause I remember how hard it was to even catch a glimpse of him at home sometimes. Now he never leaves. I want to ask him why, but he might use that opportunity to tease me so I won't.
I let out a loud sigh as I stared at the clear sky. Breathing had been difficult these days, and I couldn't walk for long. “What are you doing here alone?” I heard his deep, raspy voice from behind me. I turned to look at him, and he had a smile on his face as he sat down with me on the balcony.
“Just enjoying nature; I mean, this is as far as I can get.” He chuckled lightly.
“It wouldn't have been like that if you just stopped trying to run away.” I rolled my eyes so hard.
“You are so lucky you're pregnant.”
“Why? Would you have spun me around and spank me?”
“No, more like fuck you like crazy.” My throat immediately went dry and the words I wanted to say got stuck in my throat.
“I want to ask you a question.” His voice suddenly became serious. “Yes?”
The question took me completely by surprise. I went silent for a full minute before I opened my mouth to speak. “I was surviving,” I said bluntly while fidgeting with my fingernails. This topic is a bit triggering for me but I need to get over it.
“What do you mean by that?” my eyes met his, and I took a deep breath again. “After my mum abandoned me, my father loathed me. He blamed me all the time, saying that my mother ran away because of me.”
“Is that true?”
“I…I don't know. I don't know why she left and never looked back. It makes me wonder if she ever even wanted me. My father became a monster, using the slightest excuse just to hit me.
He would normally return home drunk and would either suffocate me with a pillow or try to strangle me till I passed out.
I would struggle for minutes, and if eventually he stops, then I'm good, but if he doesn't, I would pass out.” I felt a warm liquid on my face and realised that I was crying.
I immediately wiped it away with the back of my hand. Trying my best not to let him notice, but I think he already did.
His arm brushed mine lightly but he didn't look at me. He was comforting me. I felt him slip a bracelet on my wrist. I looked at it and then back at him. “Why are you giving me this?”
“Can't I give my wife nice things? It's a stress relief bracelet.”
“Edward, this is a golden bracelet; how is it going to relieve my stress?”
“Money is happiness, right?” I burst into laughter and he also laughed a bit. This is the brightest I've ever seen him. I wonder how lively he was before all of this happened to him. He seems like a funny person.
“Well, my family was no good either.” He suddenly spoke.
“What happened?” I need to know what happened that he turned out like this.
“My father was powerful, strong and dangerous. I always admired him when I was younger. He was very strict, and he made sure that I never missed a day of training.
Because of his line of work, he made sure never to make friends because making friends is a very risky thing to do in the mafia game.” He took a long pause before continuing.
“So sad he had to die; he would've been the godfather.”
“How did he die?” Curiosity was killing me. He turned to look at me with no emotions on his face. The man never ceases to amaze me; how is he talking about a traumatic past so calmly?
“My mother killed him.” My eyes shot open in shock. “What? Why? Didn't she love him?”
He looked at me with a devilish smirk playing at the corner of his lips. “She never loved him from the beginning.” He chuckled lightly. “She was a spy on a mission. Can you imagine how dedicated a spy has to be to birth two kids for her victim?” He smiled, why is he smiling?
I know that this might hurt a ton for him. I now get why he's so dark; he never cried the pain out, and because of that, he has turned into this sadist monster.
“She gained his full trust and became his weakness because he didn't have any, and when he let his guard down, she threw the green light to his people and my father was killed, right in front of me.
My mother is a Russian spy who disguised herself just to bring down my father.”
My hand covered my mouth in shock. Oh my god, he's been through so much, and I've made it worse because I did exactly what his mother did to his father. I collided with his enemy to bring him down, oh God.
I am such a terrible person.
