Chapter 88 Notification

Chapter 88 Notification

~ Anyssa's Pov ~

I clung to the sheets as soon as Ronan stood up. Those were the best hours of my life.

“I need to shower,” he said. He kissed me and strutted off to the bathroom. A notification popped up on his phone, and I turned toward where it lay.

‘Unknown number: How many more times do I have to beg you to be mine? Yet you're probably in bed with that psycho who can't even remember her own memories or the fact that she's a murderer.’

I froze, rereading the text.

A murderer? A psycho?

Who the hell was this, and why was she texting Ronan's phone? I picked it up, and another message came in.

‘No matter how much you fight off the attraction we have for each other, I won't back down until you choose me and not that psychotic murderer.’

My hands swiped over the screen, trying to unlock his phone. What was the password?

Suddenly, the bathroom door opened, and I was too shocked to drop the phone immediately.

“I'm sorry,” I said, dropping it on the bed. “A notification came up, and I wanted to see.”

He smiled at me as he walked to the bed.

“What notification?”

My hands shook, and my lips quivered. Attraction between each other?

Is he cheating on me? Okay, calm down, Nyssa. This could be a misunderstanding.

But how could I? Not when my chest hurts. My heart was breaking into a thousand pieces. I could barely concentrate. I just sat there, frozen on the bed.

“Hey, you okay? You're not saying anything.”

I tried to force a smile but couldn't. He picked up his phone, read the messages, and his expression changed immediately.

“This isn't what it looks like, babe.”

I don't know how I mustered the strength to get out of bed and out of the room. I needed to leave here, stat.

A hand to my chest, I tried to regulate my breathing. I was barely breathing, only gasping for air.

I could hear his footsteps behind me, but by this time, tears had clouded my vision.

“Babe, please hear me out.”

Hear him out? Hear him out?! I couldn't even be around him right now.

I should've believed Ruby. But I believed my husband, thinking he would never cheat on me.

Who's the fool now? Definitely me.

I walked down the stairs, grabbed my purse, and strode to the door. Ronan caught up with me in time, planting his hands on the door with me standing in between.

“You can't leave.”

“Ro—Ronan, please let me leave. Please,” I begged, my words coming out as slow stutters.

“Look at me, please.”

I couldn't.

My eyes stayed on the door as I tried to blink away the tears. His hands touched my body, and I shivered. Slowly, they crept up to my shoulders, turning me to face him.

I looked down. I couldn't bear looking straight into his eyes.

“That wasn't what it looked like.”

“Of course.”

“I need you to believe me, Anyssa. I would never do anything to hurt you.”

I'm not sure about that.He held my chin with two fingers, forcing me to look at him this time.

“Ever since you had the accident and were in a coma, Ruby has been trying too…”

“Don't lie. Anything you want to tell me should be the truth and nothing else.”

“It is the truth.”

I shook my head and slowly shoved him away.

“I don't believe you. Ruby was married to your son! How could she ever? Besides, I know she has her shortcomings, and she's been mean to me in the past, but she's not someone who would seduce her way into this.”

He looked at me like I'd suddenly grown two heads.

“She doesn't like you. All of that is fake…acting.”

“If it was really acting, she wouldn't constantly check up on me, be nice to me, get me gifts. Why do you want to ruin the relationship I have with her now? You know how much I tried for them to like me in the past.”

“Baby,” he said, holding my cheeks. “Anything she said to you is a lie.”

“Then what about the messages? Are you trying to say that it is Ruby?”

“Yes!”

“That message called me a murderer. How can I be? You know, I wish so much to believe you, but how can I when you constantly lie to me, Ronan?!”

“Baby—”

“You never tell me about my memories. There are so many secrets, so many things I don't know about myself. Yet you keep them from me!”

“That's because I want to protect you. I don't want you to get hurt.”

“Fuck you! This hurts me too. Lying to me hurts me too!”

I moved away from him and climbed the stairs. I wasn't going to spend one more night here. What else should I believe when my own husband is being secretive toward me?

“I would never cheat on you. I love you, Nyssa. Everything I've done up until this point is because of you—to protect you, to make you happy!”

“Yet your constant lies and secrets don't hurt me? You always act like you know what's best, like you know my emotions better than I do! I don't want that! I'm done with you babying me!”

“Please, don't leave.”

I got to our room, pulled out my bag, and started throwing clothes into it.

“We should talk about this. Where do you think you'll go?”

“Anywhere away from you.”

He stepped in front of me, hands on my shoulders to stop me from walking further.

“I deleted her number. I told her off. I avoided her. I didn't tell you or your dad because I knew it would break both of you.”

“What about lying to me? You never tell me anything. How then do you ex—expect me to believe this?”

I tried to hold myself together, but the tears slowly dropped.

“I don't want to see you, at least not right now.”

I booked an Uber as I walked down the stairs.

“Baby, please don't do this,” he begged, but I didn't listen.

If he truly cared about me, he wouldn't keep lying to me and keeping secrets from me. Whether it would hurt me or not, that's my choice to make, not his.
