Chapter 13 MY BED LOVER IS OF A HUNTER'S BLOOD
Dominic's POV
Adrian stood in my office doorway at seven in the morning with two coffees in hand and that look on his face that meant he was about to lecture me.
"Don't," I said before he could start.
"The contract you had me draft is insane." He set my coffee down hard enough that some splashed onto the papers on my desk.
"You're giving her everything. What happens when six months ends at and she walks away with financial security while you're left..."
"She won't walk away." I replied as I took a sip from the coffee.
"You don't know that." He replied with his eyes still fixed on m.
I looked up at him and whatever he saw in my face made him stop talking.
"She's different, Adrian. The bond is already stronger than it should be. I can feel her emotions, sense where she is, and last night when she..." I stopped myself, but he'd already figured it out.
"You felt her pleasure." His voice was flat.
"From across the city."
"Yes." I replied.
"That's not normal, even for a marked human. Which means either she's not fully human or you're in deeper than you realize."
I'd been thinking the same thing, had spent half the night researching her bloodline and coming up empty.
"Run a full background check. Go back generations if you have to. I need to know what she is."
"And if the Council finds out she's something more than human?"
"Then we deal with it." I stood and grabbed my jacket.
"She'll be here at noon. Make sure we're not interrupted."
"Even for Tokyo?" He asked.
"Especially for Tokyo."
He left shaking his head and I spent the next four hours trying to work but mostly staring at the contract on my desk.
Six months, but it really wasn't enough. I already knew it wasn't enough, but that was just a start.
At exactly noon, my receptionist buzzed.
"Miss Scott is here." She said from the other end.
"Send her up." I replied.
I positioned myself at the window, back turned, trying to look casual even though I could feel my heart rate picking up the moment the elevator doors opened on my floor.
Adrian brought her to my office and the second she walked through the door, the bond flared hot and bright between us.
She was nervous, excited and scared. This was perfect!
"She's here, sir," Adrian said unnecessarily.
"Thank you. That will be all."
I waited until he left before turning around, and the sight of her made something in my chest tighten.
She'd dressed professionally, trying to look businesslike, but all I could think about was getting that skirt off her.
"You came."
"You knew I would."
The confidence in her voice surprised me and I liked it more than I should have.
"Did I?" I walked toward her slowly.
"You could have realized this was a mistake. Could have decided I'm not worth it."
"Are you trying to talk me out of this?"
Oh, forgot she was a smart girl. Calling me on my games.
"No. I'm testing you." I stopped close enough to smell her perfume.
"Seeing if you scare easily." I added.
"I don't."
"Liar." I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and felt her shiver.
"You're terrified right now. I can feel it."
Her eyes widened slightly.
"How can you..."
"The contract," I interrupted, not ready to explain about the bond yet.
"Let's go through it."
We sat and I watched her read every word carefully, her brow furrowing at certain sections.
"This is really generous," she said finally, and there was suspicion in her voice.
"Why?"
"Because I want you to have no reason to leave."
"What if I develop feelings? Real ones?"
The question caught me off guard and I hesitated too long before answering.
"Then we deal with it honestly. But this is an arrangement, not a relationship. I can't promise you love."
Something flickered across her face, hurt maybe, but she covered it quickly.
"I understand."
She signed and I also signed. And the moment the ink dried, the bond snapped into place stronger than before.
I could feel everything now. Her racing heart, her arousal and the way her body was already responding to my proximity.
I pulled her up and kissed her hard, my hands immediately going to her hips to lift her onto my desk.
She gasped against my mouth and I used the opportunity to deepen the kiss, one hand sliding up her thigh under that infuriating skirt.
But then something made me pause.
Through the bond, I felt a flash of fear mixed with her desire.
I pulled back slightly. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just..." She looked away.
"What if I'm not good enough? You've probably been with tons of women who know what they're doing and I barely know anything and..."
"Stop." I cupped her face, forced her to look at me.
"You're perfect. Exactly what I want."
"But..."
I kissed her again to shut her up, my fingers finally reaching the edge of her panties.
She was already soaked and I groaned against her mouth.
"You're so wet for me," I murmured, stroking along her folds through the fabric.
"Have you been thinking about this all morning?"
"Yes," she breathed, her hips rolling against my hand.
I was about to push her panties aside when my phone rang.
Tokyo? Perfect fucking timing.
"Ignore it," she whispered, and I almost did, but then Adrian knocked.
"Sir, it's urgent."
"Fuck," I muttered against Ava's neck, breathing hard as I mummeres sorry to her.
"It's fine," she said, but I could feel her disappointment mixing with relief through the bond.
I helped her down from the desk and straightened her clothes even though what I really wanted was to tear them off.
"Tonight by eight PM at my penthouse." I kissed her one more time before finally saying
"Wear something easy to take off."
After she left with Adrian, I took the call from Tokyo but barely heard a word they said.
All I could think about was tonight, hours later, I was home getting ready when Adrian appeared in my doorway.
"The background check on Ava came back with something strange." He said to me as I was about going upstairs I my room.
I looked up sharply. "Strange how?"
"Her maternal great-grandmother was named Chen. Sarah Chen."
The name meant nothing to me as it didn't ring any bell.
"So?"
"Sarah Chen was documented as a hunter. Part of a bloodline that tracked and killed supernatural beings."
My blood went cold as he said that.
"And you're just telling me this now?"
"I'm telling you because the line was supposedly extinct. They were all killed off decades ago by the Council."
"Then how is Ava..."
"Either she doesn't know what she is, or the bloodline survived in hiding." Adrian's face was grim.
"Either way, if the Council finds out you've bonded with a hunter's descendant... " Adrian was saying but I cut him short.
"They won't find out." I said with all precision.
"Dominic..."
"She's mine, Adrian. I don't care what her bloodline is. She's mine and I'm keeping her."
I walked away and left him standing there processing.
A hunter? My Ava had hunter blood? The irony would have been funny if it wasn't so dangerous, and just when I was thinking about it, my phone buzzed.
On my way. - Ava
I saw he messaged on my phone and I smiled despite everything.
Tonight was going to be interesting!
